Diversity

March is Irish American Heritage Month! Find a picture of the Irish flag to share with your child and talk about how each color symbolizes something different. Look at other countries’ flags together and discuss what the different colors and symbols are and what your child thinks they could mean before looking them up together in a book or online.

Sing with Books

There are many fun picture books you can sing along with! When sharing one with your child, have them sing the words back to you, sing in high and low voices, and point to the words as you sing. If you need any suggestions for titles, just ask a Youth Services staff member!

Relate a Book to Daily Life

With your child, create a themed snack or dinner to complement a book they love! Ask them questions about what is similar and what is different from the food in the story. Does it look and taste the way they thought it would? Can they create a new story inspired by what you made together?
