Torque Ramp Down Unit Unforeseeable interruptions in a wind energy converter’s power flow (e.g. grid loss) can lead to high, damaging loads. If the system is however capable of reducing the power flow in a controlled way, the wind energy converter components will not be subject to such strain. When, in the event of a fault, the mechanical power supplied can no longer be output as electrical power, a parallel system has to assume this task without delay. The demands placed on such a parallel system: Fast response time (≤ 300 ms) and good controllability The main control system can then respond without impacting the wind energy converter, increasing its availability and service life as a result.
