The Gettysburg Foundation is pleased to announce that Gettysburg National Military Park, Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum & Visitor Center have all been recognized in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards for 2025. Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice Award winners are among the top 10% of listings around the world on Tripadvisor. “We are honored to be included among travelers’ favorites this year and thank the staff and volunteers of Gettysburg National Military Park, Eisenhower National Historic Site and the Gettysburg Foundation who have played an important role in achieving these recognitions,” said Jackie Spainhour, President and CEO of the Gettysburg Foundation. “Travelers’ Choice is one of the most recognized and coveted awards in the travel space, so it is very valuable to all of us,” added Spainhour.

Amblebrook at Gettysburg held its third Annual 5K Race and Fun Walk this past September with 56 participants raising over $3,100 to support the Gettysburg soup Kitchen. The event has been hosted by Amblebrook each year to raise significant funds for local Gettysburg organizations. Previous years have seen donations made to childhood cancer research and the Adams County Office for Aging. The donation of over $3,100 to the Gettysburg Soup Kitchen will help it continue to provide quality, nutritious meals to those in need at no cost, as it has for over 30 years. The 5K Race and Fun Walk was a tremendous success with 56 people participating, followed by a post-race celebration in the parking lot of Amblebrook’s Fitness Center that featured food, vendors, activities, and plenty of community spirit.

Battlefield Harley-Davidson

David LeVan – Owner

Let’s Meet David with Battlefield Harley-Davidson!

David LeVan, a Gettysburg native, has spent much of his life shaping businesses with a focus on leadership and excellence. After graduating from Gettysburg College in 1968, he spent 30 years in the Philadelphia area, working first in public accounting and then with Conrail, a major freight railroad. He retired in 1998 as Chairman, President, and CEO following the company’s acquisition, and returned home to Gettysburg in 1999. A year later, he opened Battlefield Harley-Davidson, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

Battlefield Harley-Davidson offers a full range of motorsport products, primarily Harley-Davidson motorcycles, along with service, parts, accessories, and merchandise.

“What makes us unique is the Harley-Davidson experience,” LeVan said. “We focus on our staff first, and then on the relationships we build with our customers. A well-trained, highly motivated team ensures every customer interaction is exceptional.” The company’s culture centers on communication, commitment, honesty, trust, and teamwork, values that LeVan believes are essential for long-term success.

Harley-Davidson riders are a passionate and loyal group, and LeVan believes they are “the best customers any business could ask for.” As owner, he keeps the business on track, motivates his staff, oversees finances,

BIZ BUZZ

and monitors external factors that could impact the dealership.

Staying engaged with industry trends is a priority at Battlefield Harley-Davidson. LeVan follows both local and national market developments, as well as corporate initiatives from Harley-Davidson, to ensure the dealership continues to meet customer needs. What motivates him every morning is simple: he enjoys going to work and getting on with life, even after 25 years in business.

For new business owners, LeVan advises: “Understand your competition, focus on your employees and how they serve customers, and have a passion for your business.” His leadership philosophy is equally clear: “Be passionate and communicate, communicate, communicate!”

LeVan thinks Adams County is a fantastic place to do business thanks to “good, hardworking people with positive attitudes.” The Chamber plays a key role in supporting the dealership through resources, exposure, and networking opportunities. Battlefield HarleyDavidson also prioritizes giving back, hosting numerous events each year and donating to local charities.

When he’s not at the dealership, LeVan enjoys exploring local restaurants and spending time in the community that has supported his business for a quarter-century.

ADVOCACY UPDATES

SENATE VOTES TO EXPAND COLLEGE AID FOR FOSTER CHILDREN

SENATOR DOUG MASTRIANO

The Senate approved legislation to expand tuition aid for foster children and adopted youth to cover those from other states, attracting talented students to help fill in-demand jobs and boost the commonwealth’s weak population growth.

Senate Bill 432 would expand the Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver Program, which waives higher education tuition and fees for children in the foster care system and those who were adopted. The program is currently available only to state residents and the legislation would expand it to eligible nonresident students for undergraduate courses at Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education schools.

The measure builds on the GROW PA plan I supported last year to improve Pennsylvania’s competitiveness by, among other steps, attracting and retaining students to pursue college degrees. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

SUPPORTING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY IN THE STATE BUDGET

REPRESENTATIVE DAN MOUL

Pennsylvania is now more than 100 days into the new fiscal year, and we still do not have a state budget. Many of the spending proposals we have seen thus far spend more than we are projected to collect in revenue this year, a pattern that ultimately leads to tax increases. My Republican colleagues and I are advocating for a plan that spends within our means, and the Republicancontrolled Senate sent us such a budget bill earlier this summer. In the House this week, I voted in favor of the bill, which could have immediately gone to the governor to end the state budget impasse, but the vote failed along party lines. I could not support the $50.25 billion plan advanced by House Democrats, as it spends significantly more than anticipated revenues for the year. All parties need to face our fiscal realities and pass a budget that respects the taxpayers who foot the bill.

THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK

October isn’t just about cooler weather, football, or pumpkin spice… It’s also Cybersecurity Awareness Month! It’s the perfect time to double check that your online accounts are as secure as your front door. Whether you’re running a small business or just checking email at home, this month is all about learning simple ways to protect yourself and your organization online.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month, led by CISA and the National Cybersecurity Alliance, focuses on encouraging everyone to take small steps that make big differences. It’s no longer about being a tech expert but simply being aware. You can’t rely on apps and companies to protect your smaller accounts because cybercriminals don’t just target the “big guys” anymore. They often go after smaller organizations and individuals because they tend to have weaker defenses. So just like cleaning the leaves and debris from your yard, now is the time to clean up your online habits so you can save yourself a world of stress later.

this feature by reviewing your profile or account settings. Phishing scams are another major issue. These misleading emails and texts try to trick you into clicking bad links or sharing sensitive information. Take a moment to double check the sender’s address and never open attachments or click links that seem suspicious. When in doubt, verify the message through another source. This could be calling your bank if you’ve received a suspicious text about your account.

“Strong, unique passwords are your first line of defense against hackers.”

Another powerful way to stay safe is through Security Awareness Training (SAT). Many workplaces offer SAT programs to help employees recognize threats before they become incidents, but this training isn’t just for professionals. Individuals, families, and even students can benefit from understanding how cybercriminals operate and how to respond. Learning how to identify phishing attempts and how to handle your personal data responsibly builds lifelong habits that help protect you everywhere and not just at work.

Start with your passwords. Strong, unique passwords are your first line of defense against hackers. If you’ve been using the same password for years (don’t worry, we’ve all done it), this is your reminder to change things up. Using a password manager can help you create and safely store complex passwords.

Next, enable multifactor authentication—often called MFA—wherever possible. It adds an extra layer of protection by sending a one-time code to your phone, email, or through apps like Authy or Microsoft Authenticator, and it’s one of the easiest ways to stop unauthorized access. You can usually find how to enable

Finally, keep your software updated. Don’t skip your reminders—they often include critical security patches that protect you from known vulnerabilities. Cybersecurity awareness doesn’t end when October does. It’s something to practice all year long. By taking small, consistent steps, you help protect not only your business but also your coworkers, clients, and community. Staying safe online isn’t complicated, it just starts with awareness and a little action.
