eptember, the beginning of Spring. A time when we look forward to warmer weather and traditionally a time for a spring clean. With so many of us being confined to working from home, I imagine that it’s been a time when we look around us and recognise that we could all potentially declutter. Not only our homes, but also our lives. It’s a time to simplify and reflect on what’s actually important. Get rid of the excess, whether it’s unnecessary possessions, toxic relationships or negative energy – kick it to the curb. Embrace the positive and focus on the good things that make us who we are and gives us inner peace. It may be great friends, our loving family or an aromatherapy bubble bath with a sneaky Sav Blanc. Which brings me to the top five most stressful life events which include: • Death of a loved one. • Divorce. • Moving. • Major illness or injury. • Job loss. It goes without saying that during this trying time, most of us have sadly experienced at least one of these scenarios. Personally, it was moving. After 14 years, it was time to sell up and face a serious declutter in life. I had no idea how much crap one person could accumulate. When you can fill not one but two removalist trucks and still have ‘stuff’ to shift, it became apparent that I am in fact – a hoarder. When sifting from room to room, ‘stuff’ was often thrown into the ‘get rid of’ bag and then promptly put back into the ‘I may need this ‘ box. I seriously need to take a good look at myself. The most amazing thing that happened during the chaos of the shift was the support and love from my incredible friends and family. They packed, they cleaned, they moved, they fed me wine to calm my nerves and generally kept me sane. It still leaves me speechless (not something that happens very often, I might add) and I will be forever grateful. Proving again, that when things get tough, we need to stand by and support one another regardless of the circumstances. So stay strong people, help each other out and know you’re not alone.
