shopping We decided to park at one of my favorite stores, ORVIS, and make our way to the north. After making a quick stop in Orvis for some fishing supplies for an upcoming trip, our next stop was at one of my favorite holiday shops—GESTURE. This little boutique has quite the selection of unique gifts for everyone and the staff is tremendous. The COACH STORE was the next stop. This is a definite hot spot for any woman and for any man seeking to impress—or to move back into the bedroom from the couch. I now feel as if I’m on a first name basis with every employee there. Apparently all of the “spring items” were out (whatever that means) and my shopping partner was beside herself. Regardless, we didn’t leave there without the Really, Really Big Bag! From Coach, we talked with fellow shoppers as we made our way in and

out of the various stores to the far end of the mall, which seemed like miles when I looked back toward the car. After several failed attempts to hail a cab for a ride back, we made it back to the APPLE store and other various clothing stores. It was a trek for sure. We stopped by the Apple store for a quick update to my iPhone and we were back hitting the concrete. In and out of various stores finding many items we couldn’t live without seemed to be the norm. After hoofing it across the parking lot to a couple more shops we were almost back to the car. It was soon obvious that the plume of smoke billowing from my pocket was my pedometer. It read, “ERROR – mileage overload” Step count for this mall alone: an astonishing 8,845 steps (4 miles) Thrilled to see the car again, we continued our journey to downtown

Finally, back at the car, my feet were killing me! My Dr. Scholl’s were not working as well as they stated on the box. We had one last stop before we finished out the day. West Street Market and Downtown: 3,859 steps (1.77 miles)

Reno to hit up a little antique shop I like to visit, ANTIQUES AND TREASURES. There is generally something here I can’t live without and today was no exception. I found a fantastic buy on a rather odd object. A vintage 1972 New York Sewer System Zircon Encrusted Rat Hammer, an item I’ve been searching for, literally, for years. I was thrilled as we left and couldn’t keep from playing with it in the car as we continued on our way. The next stop was WEST STREET MARKET where RENO ENVY is located. There is no better way to represent the City of Reno better than with a Reno Envy Tee shirt, sweatshirt, hat, jacket or even a pair of underwear. Thanks to the owner, Scott, who got me everything I needed to represent. There are various other trinket and memorabilia shops downtown with souvenirs from Elvis glasses to life-size cutouts of your favorite movie stars. I just had to have the Marilyn Monroe cardboard cutout. Imagine the surprised expressions on the faces of my friends…“Hey, it’s Marilyn Monroe —I KNEW you were still alive!” The buy of the day had to be the toilet coffee mug we discovered. Now, who sits around and thinks up this crap? It was perfect! This unique gift has the official nod from the GETAWAY Guy.

LEGENDS MALL AT SPARKS MARINA is the newest mall to the area and has a great feel to it. With SCHEELS, the largest outdoor store, a variety of outlet shops and great restaurants, it has been a very popular spot for the locals. I made my regular stops to BANANA REPUBLIC and GUESS and, for her, the BCBG is a must. Scheels is simply huge. With a lifesize Ferris Wheel inside the store, I couldn’t resist a ride. Besides feeling like a kid again, the view really gave me an idea of just how large this store

was. Anything and everything for any adventure you could dream is located here—trust me. I have prepared for a few adventures myself here for sure. Upon checking out of Scheels, with a bell hop helping us with our many bags, there was a restaurant I had always wanted to try. JAZZ, a Louisiana

Kitchen is a Cajun & Creole-style eatery. Being a Mardi Gras alumni, I hit it up with authority. After walking what seemed like a cross-country trek, it was nice to sit down with a cold drink and a bowl of gumbo—the perfect ending to a truly active day out. Step count for Legends at Sparks Marina: 4,289 steps (1.96 miles) Grand Total: 12.47 miles! So next time the special person in your life asks you to go shopping, think about the exercise! Now can someone carry me to my car? These dogs are bark’n!!! GETAWAY Guy, Dreu Murin, is your personal tour guide for fun and adventure in the Reno/Tahoe area!
