Supporting Thailand in the ‘New Normal’ through 5G

Rajiv Bawa

In this ‘New Normal’, Total Access Communication Plc (dtac) strongly believes its responsibilities are more important to Thai society than ever before — as are the company’s responsibilities. In fact, dtac understands the support that its customers need even more clearly, and that it must respond to those needs more quickly and efficiently. That means delivering experiences that are consistently excellent.

It is clear that 5G will be critical to achieving these goals, and dtac remains fully committed to unlocking the benefits for Thai society. In 2020, the company’s objective is to both launch 5G at select locations and triple its network capacity for all users. This will be achieved by rolling out massive multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) solutions at high-traffic locations nationwide, while also continuing to expand and densify coverage.

Despite the formidable challenges created by COVID-19, dtac has responded quickly and effectively. The company says that it has the necessary heart, imagination and on-the-field execution needed to achieve that goal; therefore, now is the time to rethink how it will operate and use technology to thrive in the new normal.

Empowering businesses

According to Mr. Rajiv Bawa, Chief Executive Officer, at dtac, said “the company is committed to empowering businesses and driving growth through three key principles — trust, simplicity and honesty. To overcome business challenges and achieve their business goals in this challenging time, we’ve been developing a wide range of solutions that help businesses cope with the ‘New Normal.” The company is now offering a vir tual network solution for businesses that is faster and more secure than existing hardware and VPN offers — dtac Business SmartConnect, powered by NetFoundry, operates under a novel model dubbed, “Network as a Service (Naas)”.

According to dtac, it is ideally suited for the post-COVID-19 world, as it allows employees and businesses to reliably and easily connect to cloud, boosting their performance and efficiency. This new service can connect distributed applications in any cloud, on any device and anywhere.

Businesses in the ‘New Normal’

In fact, dtac is Thailand’s first and the only connectivity provider to a cloud-native, highly-secured and performant option that requires no hardware and without the need for outmoded networking methods such as VPNs.

Data are key to businesses in an era of rapid change. All cloud networks enable businesses to access and manage their data from anywhere in world — but dtac says the extra stress on networks can lead to safety and reliability issues. With SmartConnect, data access is simpler and more secured.

New services that meet the new way of working

According to dtac, it has found that business owners are looking for solutions that meet their needs of rapid change in the business environment, such as instant and worry-free access to their data at all times. The solution is cloud applications, which require a new type of networking — cloud-native, application specific and agile by design — which cannot be achieved with existing hardware and VPN solutions.

Mr. Bawa says the eight reasons for choosing Business SmartConnect by NetFoundry, include:

1. A highly-secured data environment with five layers of military-grade security equivalent to the standards in place at the United States Department of Defense, called Zero Trust Dark Network;

2. Between 40 per cent and 80 per cent cost savings compared with traditional methods;

3. The availability of NetFoundry in all major cloud marketplaces such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and Ali Cloud;

4. A better experience with eight- to ten-fold faster speeds compared to conventional solutions.

5. Users can connect to cloud-based data anywhere in the world, optimizing algorithms to pick the best paths across Business SmartConnect by NetFoundry’s global Internet overlay fabric, which costs less and takes less time than traditional solutions;

6. The components within the NetFoundry orchestration console were designed to make building and augmenting AppWANs between cloud providers easy and seamless;

7. NetFoundry’s platform brings flexibility and agility to networking, with the ability to make changes on-the-fly, establish policies driven by identity, context and application needs as well as easily interconnect many virtual networks within cloud providers as an alternative to transitive routing;

8. Short deployment time.
