Ariana

I’m sure all of us Arianators can agree that the ponytail has long been a recognisable symbol of Ariana and has become one of the most iconic hairstyles of our generation. Ariana has been seen sporting this look with many variations, including with a sleek and straight finish, a curly or wavy texture, or with added accessories like scrunchies, headbands, or clips. She even entered an era I’m sure we all remember: the fringe! When this hairstyle was at its peak, the high ponytail spread like a hairsprayed virus among fans, and we saw millions of recreations of this iconic hairstyle across the world. But what is it about this hairstyle that has captured the hearts, heads and hairbrushes of so many people? Let’s take a closer look.
The first time we saw the ponytail was way back in 2013 and can be seen on the cover of her Yours Truly album. Since then, we have seen hundreds of variations of the high pony including a bleach blonde look with an oversized tulle bow at the Met Gala, a super long pony and an array of hair gems at the One Love Manches ter concert and a more nat ural dark hair look for her wedding day.
Obviously, it is important to note that Ariana Grande is definitely not the first person to wear a high ponytail, although she has definitely been a key factor in the cultural phenomenon of this look.
Achieving the Grande pony is relatively simple. To start, using a hair tie, the hair should be pulled back and secured tightly at the crown of the head and some people choose to use hair gel or hairspray to achieve the sleek effect Ariana is so fond of. All you need is a hair tie, a brush, and a bit of hairspray, and you can recreate the look in minutes. This simplicity has made the Ariana Grande ponytail accessible to
people of all ages and hair types and for sure has made this style so popular among fans, as we can pay homage to our idol and recreate her famous looks easily. Whether you’re looking for a quick and easy hairstyle for a day out or a glamorous look for a special event, the Ariana Grande ponytail is a style that’s sure to turn heads.
But how did this iconic look come to be?
Well, in 2014, Ariana revealed that she has been wearing hair extensions since her role in the Nickelodeon show “Sam & Cat,” which required her to bleach her hair frequently. Bleaching and using hair extensions can cause damage to the hair follicles, leading to hair loss. Ariana explained that wearing her hair in a high ponytail was a way to cover up the damage and protect her natural hair. In addition to wearing hair extensions, Grande also revealed in 2018 that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017 and in a tweet, Ariana shared that sadly her hair was falling out due to the stress of the traumatic event. Despite these challenges, Ariana has continued to wear her hair in a high ponytail and has addressed the rumours about her hair loss. In a 2019 interview with Glamour, she explained that she’s been taking better care of her natural hair and has been wearing it down more often to allow it to breathe and grow, which definitely explains the missing ponytail-shaped hole in all our hearts since she chopped off the ponytail recently.
Although Ariana might not be sporting the high ponytail as much anymore, it is clear to see that as long as she continues to rock her signature ponytail, it is safe to say that will remain a beloved hairstyle for years to come.
