The Evolution of The Ideal Team Player

In the spring 2020 issue of Main Pipe, we introduced the concepts behind Gerber culture, based upon building blocks outlined in The Ideal Team Player by Patrick Lencioni. Since then, we highlighted feature articles with a personal look at one of the three virtues: Humble, Hungry, and Smart.

Why?

While the essence of those virtues remains, CEO Keith Yurko, along with his senior leadership team, realized there was an opportunity to further define our work culture vision. The team wanted to provide a clear and concise answer to the question: What does it mean to be a part of the Gerber team?

How?

Through several deep-thinking workshops and some self-reflective homework, the evolution of Humble, Hungry, and Smart resulted in the realization that everything at Gerber, we do with HEART.

Company culture will form either by accident or with intentionality.

We’re committed to strengthening trust as we set new bars for success.

After over a year of Zoom calls and Microsoft Teams messages, the sales, marketing, and product teams represented Gerber North America this July. Teams went face-to-face in interactive and educational events including tank-to-bowl race, custom shower quiz, faucet install challenge, tank lever trial, and name that product contest.

Krystyna Pierce, Customer Care Rep - Midwest – Customer Care Rep of the Year Krystyna is someone obsessed with doing right for the customer and getting an answer. She is notable for her fast and accurate responses in communications during issues that arise. Krystyna is pleasant to talk with and navigates the line of being both a friend and a colleague. Customers truly understand how hard she works for them and how she genuinely cares about helping. Gerber is lucky to have Krystyna on the team!

Tom Schlegel, RSM - Northeast – Regional Sales Manager of the Year Although the North East region was impacted vastly due to the shutdown of New York, Tom persevered. He met two of his three wholesale sale categories while taking on new responsibilities as a private brand manager for FW Webb.

Tom’s dedication to Gerber is highlighted in all he does. He works tirelessly to build relationships with wholesalers. Tom shares the credit and success for any positive outcomes from his territory, and communicates frequently and effectively in cross-functional meetings.

TM SALES – Medium Market Size Rep of the Year- Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming TM Sales is relatively new to the Gerber team, but this has not stopped them from dominating the medium market. Under the leadership of Tom Meek and Tobi Gibson, TM Sales grew their Focus VC sales by 22.4% and secured spaces in several new showrooms. They were #1 in sales growth for Gerber brass products and heavily invested in distribution, both existing and new, as well as the contractor footprint. Their dedication to hard work has brought a professionalism and energy to the Colorado, Montana, and Wyoming territory.

CAROLINA SALES – Large Market Rep of the Year- North and South Carolina Led by Walt McConnell, Ken Alexander, and Wes Ingram, Carolina Sales, a long-time Gerber representative, has exceeded expectations.

As one of Gerber’s largest reps for VC and brass, their focus VC grew over 20% in 2020, and brass sales grew 78% under their guidance.

Carolina Sales understands the importance of brass sales and work aggressively to grow the business.

Their strong ties to distribution and contractor markets helps them align with key customers.

Gerber Does Good FOOD DRIVE

The June 20 tornado in Naperville, Illinois, impacted many families and individuals, leaving homes destroyed, tree damage, and at least eight people injured. Gerber conducted a food drive and donated supplies to the West Suburban Community Pantry, which was met with a gracious thank you! The photo shows just a portion of the donations loaded in the truck, and a telling symbol of the generosity of Gerber employees.

The company brought in a total of 2,427 items.

TOILETS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Oftentimes, donations consist of food, bottled water, or clothing items. But what about homes for those in need? Gerber recently donated toilets to Hero Homes, an organization committed to building houses for disabled veterans and their families. Thank you to Thomas Somerville and Capital Mechanical, as well as Eric Woody from the Duhart Group for bringing this opportunity to our Regional Sales Manager Tom Schlegel and Sales Director Mike Walleck.
