Brandano Displays, Inc. has provided the displays and lighting for the event since year two and has been the producer of the event since 2008.

Brandano produces commercial holiday décor for cities, shopping centers, commercial complexes and events nationwide. Brandano Displays a 40 year old company ,has produced three thousand commercial programs. It’s client list has included: Rockefeller Center, Graceland, Bronx Zoo, Sea World and over fifty events across the country.

The Company’s products are enjoyed throughout South Florida on city streets, beaches, commercial buildings and retail centers.

HISTORY OF THE HOLIDAY FANTASY OF LIGHTS XXIII The inaugural edition of Holiday Fantasy of Lights was held in 1994. This first edition of HFOL was hosted, installed and operated by the Broward County Parks Department and in Tradewinds Park. The experience was a 1.2 mile drive with twenty six displays and tree lighting. The event was well attended and received positive exit interviews along with requests for more lights and larger displays. HFOL PLANNING AND SETUP NEVER ENDS Visitors are surprised to hear that as they drive thru the 2017 HFOL event the planning for the 2018 edition is already in full swing.

Planning for each edition begins one year from the opening night (The Friday of Thanksgiving Weekend). Planning is a year round focus for Brandano Displays staff; while setup is typically a seasonal project beginning in September and ending in February at takedown. HFOL planning includes: selection of displays, engineering of electrical distribution, design and production of new displays, development of promotional materials and development of the operational program for the Event.

HFOL setup begins with the early September delivery of four tractor trailer, loads of lights, displays, electrical distribution and hardware. There is over two miles of extension cords five miles of lightline, 1,000 + parts to 70 displays and thousands of light bulbs.

Brandano staff and volunteers work for eight weeks to clean, re-bulb, distribute, assemble, erect and electrify the displays.

On opening night, just when we think everything is done we are reminded that there is just 52 weeks until opening night of HFOL XXIV.

HFOL AND CONSERVATION The Holiday Fantasy of Lights has been designed with the following as key environmental criteria:

Display Orientation. Traditionally, holiday light attractions were centered on hundreds of thousands of lights laced in trees and foliage. Brandano Displays, Inc. has integrated professionally designed displays (metal sculptures outlined with lights) and reduced the use of tree lighting at HFOL by approximately 50%. HFOL was designed to minimize the use of lights in trees and shrubs by employing large-scale sculptures which make use of space within the design of the display.

Displays. HFOL displays are designed two-dimensional and employ 60% less lights than three-dimensional displays.

Packaging. Traditionally, companies producing holiday events box all products for shipping with elaborate containers and crates. HFOL has eliminated packaging waste from shipping by using comlete truckload deliveries. This eliminates the environmental packaging waste of: paper, wood, cardboard and plastics.

Power Consumption. Reducing power consumption at HFOL while maintaining the quality of the display is an ongoing process at Brandano Displays, Inc. Bulb spacing on displays has been changed to use less power per display.

High efficiency lighting has been employed where feasible. The use of floodlights within HFOL has dramatically reduced the power consumption in illuminated trees.

Extended Life Displays. Traditionally, holiday decorations are designed and engineered for a life of less than three (3) seasons. Brandano Displays, Inc. has reduced the disposal of decorations by producing long-life products which, with professional maintenance, have a life of over ten (10) years. These displays are rotated each year with other nationwide events using the products. This reduces the disposal of steel, wire and plastic parts and conserves on the consumption of these components in replacement products.

INGREDIENTS 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda 2 teaspoons ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 stick plus 2 tablespoon unsalted butter,softened 3/4 cup sugar 1 large egg, at room temperature 1/4 cup unsulfur molasses FILLING

DIRECTIONS How to Make It

6 tablespoons unsalted butter 2 cups confectioner’s sugar 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

Step 1 Preheat the oven to 350° and position racks in the upper and lower thirds. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2 In a bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon and salt. In the bowl of a standing electric mixer fitted with the paddle, beat the butter and sugar at medium speed until fluffy, 3 minutes. Beat in the egg and molasses. Add the dry ingredients and beat at low speed until incorporated, scraping down the bowl.

Step 3 Working in 2 batches, drop scant tablespoons of the dough onto the baking sheets, 3 inches apart. Bake the cookies for 20 minutes, until risen and fallen and slightly firm; shift the sheets from top to bottom and front to back halfway through for even baking. Let cool slightly, then transfer the parchment paper to racks and let the cookies cool completely. Bake the remaining cookies.

Step 4 In the bowl of a standing electric mixer fitted with the paddle, beat the butter with the confectioners’ sugar at medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes. Beat in the lemon juice.

Step 5 Arrange the cookies in pairs on a large work surface. Spoon or pipe 1 rounded tablespoon of the lemon filling onto the flat side of half of the cookies. Sandwich with the remaining cookies, pressing them together so the filling spreads to the edge.

Make Ahead The sandwich cookies can be stored in an airtight container between sheets of wax paper for up to 1 week.
