Destructive Growth :
Aiming towards creating duality through color, the scene creates a habitat where both light and dark can co-exist. Inspired by a bamboo scroll art the lighter colors symbolize growing plant life, therefore representing the idea that even in dark situations there can still be some growing good.
Sunken Hope
most infamous concepts of duality is life vs death. Every culture touches upon the both, some call them opposites, other an extension of each other or even call them thing
a scene where death/decay coexist with life the image of a dystopian world technology has died down and life like mold and fungus grown on it plays on that image with the use of broken objects (death/decay) and the green between decay and growth
Sunken Hope pt.1 :
There is no overwhelmingly darker area than the deep ocean. Continuing on the principles of Destructive Growth, the 3-dimensional scene continues to explore a habitat for both light and dark by now adding setting to the symbolic plant life by using wave-like vessels.
-The feeling of lonilness, despair, and lost has no better representative then the deep ocean floor, but even in the darkest and gloomiest of areas there always exist the possiblity for life and light to grow -the green middle peice creates a sense of life, the symbol for hope
Sunken Hope pt.2 :
To create an opposing effect from the first scene, there is now a separation between the light and dark although they are both still part of the same area. The scene is then used to create habitable voids in a solid figure.
Sunken Hope is the showcase of duality in the journey through recovering emotions. By taking you through a programmatic hierarchy in color and temperature, the bathhouse is a space meant for coping. You start your experience in “La Noche Manda” where you can properly feel your depressive emotions in a cold natatorium that emulates the deep ocean floor. Next, you’ll find yourself in “La Cascada Luna” where the waterfall offers a private experience with a natural shower and sauna. Finally at the end of your journey is “La Parad-isa” where the water goes from warm to hot and you’ll be able to fully extend yourself in your own personal bath.
In the cycle that is coping with one’s emotions after a hard time there is almost never a straight line that leads into happiness and satisfaction. There are many stages and experiences one must go through in order to properly heal and “Flor De Isa ‘’ is a symbolic representation of that multi directional road.
“Flor De Isa” , which explores the duality in healing through 4 different categories, is a bathhouse that uses the influence of movement in art to transport you into a mural-like site that represents the change in perspective that comes with emotional healing.
Recovering from a tough time is not always a straight path from sorrow to happiness. Inspired by floral scroll art “Flor De Isa” uses the parts of a flower as a representation of the branched off journey emotional healing could become within its circulation, where different areas of the bathhouse play as a symbolic part of a plant also representing the stages of grief.
It
to get fixated on one stage of grief when coping through a hard time, so in order to emphasize the idea that the stages tell one story, all the sections are connected through two sets of continuous flowing water that makes the journey section of the bath house feel more connected.
Programming : into three sections, the transition of temperature through water represents different stages of grief. The first level, “Las Sentimiento” is a natatorium with cold water meant to encapsulate the feelings of shock and denial. The third level is a warm, and hot water symbolizing the rollercoaster of emotions between anger and bargaining. The top level, having a cold lap pool surrounded by warm baths is a representation of the stage of depression right before acceptance.
As a symbol for events that often bring grief the spider lily was a crucial symbolic part of “Flor De Isa” when it came time to depict the transition between emotions while traversing through the different routes within the bathhouse.
While on a mission to create and support sustainability, through the usage of vintage and second hand apparel as a medium, these pieces aim to emulate the essence of “Flor De Isa” through painting
