The event featured internationally known Steinway artist David Osborne, bassist Danny DeMorales and Paul Stubblefield, who played the drums and sang. Osborne has performed nearly every year for President Carter’s birthday during the last three decades. The concert showcased the American song book that Osborne presents nightly at his performance venue, The Bellagio Hotel and Resort in Las Vegas. Following the event, the University hosted an old-fashioned birthday party for Carter with a beautifully decorated cake by Jennifer Payne of Parrott, Ga. and ice cream – peanut, of course.

Did You Know? On February 13, 1942, former President and GSW alumnus Jimmy Carter, signed his name in the wet cement of the newly constructed driveway of what was then Georgia Southwestern College. The block of cement with Carter’s signature was removed from the driveway in the fall of 2014 in an effort to prevent further wear on this small piece of history. It is now housed in the Wheatley Administration Building.
