ng Ready for the School Year! Kicking off the First Meeting

Noah Merck, Lt. Governor of Division 10

It is already that time of year - to once again go back to school. Many people dread returning to the classroom and would much rather be living the summer dream all year long, but there are definitely pros to going back to school. Although we did have summer events such as ICON, our club service events will really get started super soon! When you are having your first Key Club meeting of the year, do not forget to make it appealing to all members! You want as many returning and new members to come as possible. A very good way to ensure that this happens to have food (pizza, donuts, cookies) just to get more people through the door. Once everyone has come in for the food, you can really get to the good stuff by talking about how great Key Club is and the amazing effects it has on the community and the world. Also, when planning the first community service projects of the year, get everyone’s input and make it something that everyone in the club will enjoy doing!

Chestatee High School Key Club

My Key Club Beginnings

Tess Mosley, President of Chestatee High School Key Club

For many, the first day of high school is just as terrifying as it is exciting. However, for others, it is simply one step closer to the day they can leave. I was the latter. I went into high school with a mind set to leave as soon as possible. I jumped at every opportunity to take a high school credit, doing only the bare minimum to pass. With this mindset, extracurricular activities such as Key Club weren’t in my plan, and the idea of spending more time than necessary at school seemed like a nightmare. Fortunately, that changed when the members of Key Club reached out to me. Their kind, welcoming, and persistent nature encouraged me to join, and once I joined I found a friend group that made high school seem intriguing, and I became a different person. Instead of accepting a report card with no grade above an 89, I finished the school year with all A’s. Instead of sitting indoors on my computer all day, I was almost constantly out doing a community service project. With this in mind, I challenge you all to find a new friend this upcoming school year, and encourage them to join Key Club. It can truly change the course of their life as well as your own.
