CORE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN STUDIOS

The first five semesters of the B.Arch program constitute the core architecture design studio sequence.

VERTICAL VILLAGE

SPRING 2023

PROFESSOR- FEI WANG IN COLLABORATION WITH AVERIE COHEN ARC 409 INTEGRATED STUDIO (4TH YEAR)

The final project will be on the proposal of a mixed-use program on the cliffs of Wenling, a thirdtier coastal city in East China.

The final work will be included in the book Design Energy Futures: the Sky, the Earth and the Ocean, in Summer 2023, as well as exhibitions and public events.

CONCEPT

We proposed a vertical village community center on a cliffside in Wenling, inspired by the town's weaving paths and the intertwining of land and sea.

The design aims to be an immersive experience and is heavily focused on the structure to withstand harsh weather and site conditions. The program includes performance spaces inspired by local traditions and the center serves as a safe haven for the town both literally and culturally, while also honoring Wenling's sustainability.

BURIED BODEGA

SPRING 2021

CONCEPT

This Buried bodega gets its name from the embedded form created to endure the immense heat that this area receives.

This project aims to provide both production spaces while allowing for a tourist experience throughout the program- a primary focus was given to natural light. Therefore, I created large fiberglass tubes that go to different lengths in order to bring sunlight down into various spaces.

GLOBAL RESEARCH PROGRAMS

The sixth and seventh studios, which fall during the second semester thrid year and the first semester fourth year afford students opportunities to study internationally, at Syracuse's abroad programs.

LONDON STUDY ABROAD INSTITUTE

SPRING 2022 working.

This project focuses on merging adaptability with functionality by integrating a space dedicated entirely to fluidity and openness compared to one of the structures and plans, all connected by one central seam spanning through the project.

SICILIAN CULTURAL MARKET

FALL 2022

PROFESSOR- LUCA PONSI IN COLLABORATION WITH ALLISON HOWARD, AND JUSTIN GUILIANO

ARC 408 STUDY ABROAD (4TH YEAR)

The project of the semester consists in designing spaces of intercultural integration and opportunity for the New Sicilians arriving on the island via the filters of problematic “Hotspots”, pursuing a positive evolution of their lives.

CONCEPT

The proposal was for a cultural market combining local artisans and migrant traditions and skill sets in three markets: goods, restaurants, and fish. We interpreted the studio prompt of creating a secondary reception center for migrants and refugees as a chance to foster a hub of culture. When we think of culture, we think of markets and the excitement of these dense, lively spaces. Thus our project is a market for cultural exchange, through buying, selling, teaching, learning, interacting, and making.

CREATIVE WORK

Although I am an architecture student, I have always been drawn to telling stories and having the power to create new worlds that either people can relate to or escape to. Apart from telling stories through architecture, I have also been able to tell stories through film as a scriptwriter, and through my art.

THE SANTA CATARINA

SHORT STORY

“And now she tells her own stories, those whispered to her by the ghosts she found at sea- while she sat and gazed at the stars, swaying alone in no man's land- no one in sight. She would spend her days and nights on the water, steering around to nearby islands, and in between, how she would drop the anchor of her fishing boat and watch as the thick metal chain spun further away from her and closer to all the secrets she longed to uncover, occasionally pressing her finger against it to feel the sharp burn and reviving herself back into the world- until it jolted the boat when it reached its resting place meters and meters in the depths. How she would float, hovering above the surface, staring at the stars, whistles confused with those of vanished sailors, wondering what would happen if she followed it. What would she see if she tied herself to that metal hook? Would she have talked to the sailors who roamed the ocean floor? or met the pirates who still sleep on the sea bed? She would sail, still searching for the Santa Catarina, still searching for the lighthouse to guide her home”
