Italy is on Central European Summer Time (CEST), which is 7 hours ahead of Central Daylight Time. Italians use a 24-hour clock, or “military time ”
Be sure to bring an adapter for wall outlets. Italian outlets are 220v, while US outlets are 110v. Cell phones and computers will not be harmed by an Italian outlet, but be sure to check that any other devices (hair dryers, etc.) are compatible with 220v outlets before plugging them in.

Generally, there are two options for using a cell phone in Europe: purchase an international plan from your carrier, or keep the phone on airplane mode during the trip and connect to wifi when it is available If you need consistent, reliable internet on your trip, consider bringing a Mi-Fi device
Calling an Italian phone number is an international call even when using an international plan. To dial an Italian phone number (for contacting hotels, restaurants, etc.), first dial 011-39, then the phone number.
Italians use WhatsApp to text and call each other because it costs less than text messages or regular phone calls. Many businesses also use WhatsApp to accept bookings or send confirmations, even if they have a landline. Install Whatsapp to communicate with tour guides, drivers, hotels, etc.
To save phone battery and ensure you have access to maps in an area without wifi or data, download maps for use online To download an offline map:
Open Google Maps on your phone
Zoom out, scroll over to Italy, and zoom in on the city you want to download The area will have to be reasonably sized for the download to work (you won’t be able to download a map for the entire country)
Type “Ok Maps” in the search bar, and press "search"
The app will ask you to confirm the download. Click “confirm,” and download your map!
Now when you open Google Maps, the map of that area will work offline!

The main train station in Florence is Firenze Santa Maria Novella. Santa Maria Novella is also the name of a nearby church, so you may see the station abbreviated as "Firenze SMN "
Santa Maria Novella is one of the busiest train stations in Italy, with 19 train tracks located on one floor and service to over 150,000 passengers daily. The station is centrally located, only about a 10-minute walk from the Duomo in the heart of the city
T R A I N T R A V E L I N I T A L Y
In Italy there are two main companies that run the high-speed train between Rome and Florence: Trenitalia and Italo Treno Trenitalia is the state-run railway agency, and its bullet trains are called “Freccia”, which can be Frecciarossa, Frecciabianca and Frecciargento. Italo Treno is a private company with a smaller range of services between the major cities in Italy.
Train tickets on either railway system can be bought in-person or online, but prices are generally better when booking online in. Tickets for both train companies can be purchased at www.omio.com, or directly from the train companies at www.trenitalia.com or www.italotreno.it/en. High-speed train tickets start around €30 each, with options to upgrade the comfort level and amenities for each trip
To reach the train platforms, you must have a valid ticket to travel on that day. You can show either a printed ticket or your ticket confirmation on your phone. You may need to validate your ticket before boarding the train Aside from the ticket check, there is no other security checkpoint to board the train There will be a second ticket check once you are on the train, so be prepared to show your ticket when the attendant comes around and asks for it.
There is usually not an option to check luggage on the train, so be prepared to carry your own luggage and store it in the provided racks at the front of the car or above your seat
