We appreciate their efforts and service to our industry.

GCA’S YCC SHORT COURSE

GCA’s Young Cattlemen’s Council held this year’s Short Course. The course provided a unique educational and networking opportunity, enhancing attendees’ understanding of essential concepts and techniques relevant to the beef cattle industry. YCC spotlighted four main focus areas, including: land acquisition; business planning; direct marketing of beef; and herd optimization designed to present practical application and implementation methods for attendees to incorporate into their operations back home. Special thanks to Zoetis, who donated a vaccine cooler for the event.

GCA Executive Vice President Dale Sandlin spoke at the Laurens County Cattlemen’s Association Meeting at West Lawrence High School on May 26. After a delicious meal, Sandlin presented an update on GCA’s activities and led a stimulating discussion on processing capacity and the cattle markets.

GCWA HOSTS AMERICAN NATIONAL CATTLEWOMEN’S REGION II MEETING

The Georgia CattleWomen’s Association hosted the American National CattleWomen’s Region II Meeting in Athens, Ga., on May 20-21, 2022; they welcomed women from Georgia, Florida, Alabama and South Carolina. On the first day, the attendees began by touring the new Jackson County Ag Facility, then proceeded to Potts Family Meats to tour their processing facility. They followed that with a tour of the Jackson County Extension Office, where Ms. April and Ms. Hailey spoke on what Extension is like in their counties. They wrapped up the day at Elrod Farms/Cowboy Logic with a wonderful dinner and a tour of their operation. Day Two began with a breakfast provided by the Jackson County Ag Facility and Marty Clark. The attendees then visited Potts Brothers Farm Inc. to see their cow/calf herd and learned all about their genetic line. Upon their return to the Jackson County Ag Facility, lunch was provided by Talmo Market - General Store. They then held the ANCW business session, nominating new positions to some Region II boards; GCWA awarded one of their scholarships; and every state presented on what has been going on locally. They completed the meeting with a tour of C & C Farms Simmental Cattle – where Ms. Morgan educated us on their operation, the show cattle genetics she has helped develop, along with what her future plans might entail upon high school graduation next year. GCWA thanks all the wonderful ladies in attendance, and we enjoyed the fellowship and the opportunity to give them a little taste of Northeast Georgia.
