Gally Mayer (B’93)

Gally Mayer, co-founder of Buena Vida Specialty Coffee, leads innovative efforts in reshaping the coffee industry. Formerly in banking and venture capitalism, she shifted her focus to creating a sustainable business model. With Buena Vida, founded nearly four years ago in Costa Rica, Mayer champions profitability without exploiting farmers or soil. She actively promotes farmer prosperity through true farm-direct trade and regenerative agriculture, advocating for soil regeneration as a climate crisis solution. She serves as an advisory board member for Kiss The Ground and an associate producer for the Common Ground documentaries. Mayer institutes financial systems for farmers, helping to facilitate low-interest microloans and education. Collaborating with Costa Rica’s Coffee Institute, ICAFE, top universities, and agricultural organizations, as well as Transforma Innova (funded and led by GIZ and the European Union), farmers, and volunteers, she is developing a regenerative agriculture practical manual. The manual is designed to be vetted and implemented by farmers. Additionally, she works with industry leaders to redesign the coffee value chain, aiming to uplift millions of farmers out of poverty and heal soil. Mayer serves on the Board of Directors at the Baratta Center for Global Business.
