Best in the World Best for the World THE MCDONOUGH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Georgetown’s commitment to help meet the world’s most profound needs has shaped centuries of growth and progress. Today, it animates the university’s $3 billion campaign ambition, calling us to invest in areas of great strength for Georgetown— and even greater opportunity. Through Called to Be: The Campaign for Georgetown, we will answer with action and impact, educating a new generation of capable, creative, and conscientious business leaders.
2 | THE MCDONOUGH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS 2 | GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY VERSION 01
Dear alumni and friends of Georgetown, At Georgetown McDonough, we are called to help our students become the best in the world and the best for the world. In a complex and changing society, we prepare our students to both do well for themselves and serve the common good. We do this by building on our strengths, growing in ways that advance our mission. We intend for McDonough to become the leading school for business and global affairs. Our re-imagined undergraduate and graduate programs, often designed in collaboration with Georgetown’s other schools, will expand students’ access to global projects and experiential learning opportunities. We also will prepare students for the future of business by building capabilities around cross-cutting and forward-looking themes like sustainability, artificial intelligence, the future of work, analytics, entrepreneurship and innovation, and the business of health. Through new initiatives, curricular innovations, and groundbreaking research, McDonough graduates will be at the center of solving the world’s most complex and important issues. We will move into the future as we treasure our history—particularly our Jesuit character and values that define us as Hoyas. As such, we will further embed this tradition into the life of our school. Accomplishing our goals will require significant investments in our community— students and faculty—research, and program development. So it is with great optimism and excitement that I share McDonough’s goals for Georgetown’s Called to Be campaign. Together, we can continue to elevate our entire McDonough community as we serve one another. Sincerely,
— Paul Almeida, Dean and William R. Berkley Chair, Professor of Strategy

We will stretch the boundaries of business education. Our Georgetown McDonough community lives in the spirit of St. Ignatius of Loyola—with “one foot raised,” ready to move toward the future. We embrace change, always evolving our learning experiences to educate principled leaders with a global mindset. To do this, we must invest in faculty whose innovations enrich the classroom and influence the business community. Recognizing that a Georgetown business education should reach beyond campus, we also will connect students with companies and communities, allowing them to address realworld challenges here and abroad.

HOYA ENTREPRENEURS Transforming the baby gear industry to be more sustainable, affordable When JoyLet co-founders Alli Cavasino (MBA’22) and Natalie Poston (MBA’21) met at Georgetown McDonough, they saw an opportunity to create a more sustainable future—one where each piece of baby gear is loved by multiple families, and parents have the flexibility and savings to choose the best quality products. The entrepreneurs built JoyLet’s business plan in their Lean Startup course, earned certificates in sustainable business, and secured funding from Georgetown Entrepreneurship’s Bark Tank and the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Challenge. In 2022, they received further funding from the Georgetown Angel Investor Network by placing first in the Georgetown Entrepreneurship Alliance alumni pitch competition. Today, JoyLet is disrupting the traditional model of baby gear ownership by providing parents the ability to rent premium products that babies and toddlers age out of quickly—widening access to high-quality gear and preventing unnecessary waste.

After graduating dozens of returning citizens since its launch in 2018–19, the program seeks permanent resources for future cohorts.
