Social Housing Radical Reuse
A protest against London’s ongoing phenomenon of destroying and fully redeveloping social housing estates. I propose a sustainable and resident-centric approach consisting of renovating and revamping the existing build, extending its lifespan and improving the wellbeing of its residents.

Summer Solstice
The heat from the sun is blocked on the east by sliding shutters and on the west by sun blocking curtains. The building’s ventilation is created by a draft in each flat when the east and west windows are manually opened.

The shutters and curtains are open for optimum sun penetration therefore enabeling passive heating. The new extensions add a extra envelope to the building further increasing its energy efficiency and reducing resident’s energy bills. Only the living quaters and stairways are heated.

Educational Penicilin Factory
The project explores fermentation in architecture. The facility produces the life saving antibiotic penicillin, however its main function is to educate visitors on the medicine’s surprising production process. Its organic south facing facade made from decidious plants creates passive seasonal environmental control. The site is located in East London on a old industrial site bordering the Lea river.

Site Analysis
The site is located in a old industrial zone on the banks of the river Lea, next to the Thames Water Pump Station. Now turned residential the site is close to West Ham train station.

Communal Meadery
As a continuation of fermented architecture this project is on honey fermentation. The site is located in the North London greenbelt (Lee Valley) neighbouring Epping Forest, many plant nurseries and agricultural land. The purpose of the site is not to take away from, but to add to the ecosystem, by self sustainably producing all types of the fermented beverage known as Mead. This is achieved through the symbiotic relationships of agroforestry, permaculture and natural beekeeping. The building incorperates the baubatonik environmental design technic of growing living trees into structural elements.

Summer Solstice
During the summer the buildings organic central and south facing baubatonik cover shields it from direct sunlight and heat while still allowing ventillation. This passive control of the environment reduces the building’s operational energy in cooling while the baubotanik elements absorb carbon as they grow.
38
George Darlington
Winter Solstice
During the winter fewer spaces would be used and heated. Furthermore the operational carbon in heating is reduced due to the deciduous facade dissapearing and allowing the low winter sun to penetrate and heat the southern and northern parts of the building.
