THE GOLF COLLECTION THAT’S NOT FOR GOLFERS
The inspiration for this collection comes from sports that don’t consist of team uniforms, primarily golf. It is also inspired by street basketball, specifically the film “White Men Can’t Jump” because of how each player would dress while on the court. Their own style would compliment their play and give them real character and identity while competeing. For example, in golf Jon Daly is a well known figure for his colorful persona and atypical way of dressing on the course. Not conforming to the social norms of the game, Daly dressed to show who he really was and because of that became a household personality in golf. This collection is called “Competing Without a Uniform.”
Competing Without a Uniform centers around going agianst the norms of golf fashion but maintaining the game’s essense. It explores the idea of not conforming to the uniform the game demands while imposing your identity into the game itself through the use of personal style. To succeed in my collection I will mash my concentrated absurdity with the elegance of golf. By doing this I will bring daring and colorful clothing into a game that’s fashion is dry and predictable.
