Or put differently: the energy of a combination of factors is very important. In hydrography this is well-known: you need different pieces of equipment that go together well to get the best result in your measurements. Every piece of the set-up needs to be linked to the other in the best possible way, taking into account the requirements of the survey and the circumstances out at sea. Finding the best combination of pieces of survey equipment is not an easy task, maybe even an enduring search for many of you. This enduring search is also a challenge to the field of course: increasing accuracy and efficiency by research at universities as well as companies is showing immense progress. This progress, presented at conferences and seminars worldwide, is not always within reach of every professional in the field. In all the issues of Hydro International we try to give an overview of the progress in the field to the worldwide community. Because even in a field as small as hydrography, professionals need help. Airborne Hydrography - AHAB Airborne Hydrography AB (AHAB) develops and sells airborne Lidar survey systems for hydrographic and topographic surveys. The products are the HawkEye™ and Chiroptera™ for nearshore nautical charting, safe shipping and protection of the coastal zone environment. The DragonEye is a high-resolution corridor mapping survey system for infrastructure and 3D modelling applications.

The multi-channel HawkEye III is the fi rst multichannel sensor in the world. It has three unique Oblique Lidar channels. The deep penetrating 10kHz (kD>4) bathymetry (green) channel and the shallow

water region 35kHz are optimised for their depths and total seafloor coverage. The 400kHz topographic Lidar complements the bathy channels and generates land data. The operator console Leica OC-60 and pilot display PD60 provides both the operator and the pilot sensor and fl ight information in the air and during the survey. The output is a seamless data fi le with seabed and topographic data. Included in the Lidar Survey Studio 2.0 software suite are tools for seabed characterisation, water refraction correction, submerged vegetation identification and more. The Leica RCD30 digital camera and other sensors are easily integrated for

additional data capture, 3D imaging and documentation. The HawkeEye and the smaller Chiroptera (35kHz bathy, kD>2) system are optimised for nearshore surveying, urban area development, storm and disaster assessment or monitoring global change.

Airborne Hydrography AB provides turn-key systems and all necessary hardware and software for ease of use, easy installation and postprocessing of point-cloud raw data.

The standard output in LAS format can be further processed for end products such as DEMs, coastal erosion and flooding analysis and more.

The main product line is the SES-2000 series of parametric sub-bottom profi lers with echo sounder functionality for shallow waters (1m to 500m) and deepwater areas (up to full ocean depth).
