THE NEW COVENANT AND THE INDWELLING POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT In this message, I want to show you the need for the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. And I must emphasize again what Pastor Phil and Andy have emphasized in this series on the New Covenant: that no one in his own strength is able to live an overcoming life, free from sin's power and dominion. You may grieve over your sins and shedding a river of tears – but in your own willpower and ability, you cannot defeat powerful, hindering sins in your life. In Old Testament days, when the prophet Ezekiel preached repentance to the nation of Israel, he knew God was grieved over Israel's backsliding and compromise. He told the people: Ezekiel 18:30-32 "Therefore, O house of Israel, I will judge you, each one according to his ways, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent! Turn away from all your offenses; then sin will not be your downfall. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel? For I take no pleasure in the death
