Description
The Cloud of Unknowing is the work of an anonymous Christian mysticism. It was written in Middle English in the 14th century and it is a spiritual guide to contemplative prayer.
The basic message is that if one wishes to "know" God, one must step away from thoughts that give God particular activities and attributes. Instead one must give up oneself to "unknowing", and then the true nature of God will show itself.
An introduction by Evelyn Underhill is also included.
