The separation of reproductive, mental, and regular primary healthcare spaces leads to further disparity between genders, poor life satisfaction, and increased vulnerability for women in minority groups, and rural communities.By centralizing these forms of care, design efforts can be made to implement safe and supportive spaces to encourage women’s wellbeing in the United States.Large amounts of crossover in women’s health-related issues at extreme capacities in the region encompassing Texas,Oklahoma, and New Mexico are present. This area faces barriers related to politics, mental health, rural culture, poverty, and ethnicity at higher rates than surrounding states. With the nature of women’s issues in mind,New Mexico is selected as the only blue state within the considered region, with the site being located on the Texas border.Access to the site is provided through Interstate 40,and Historic Route 66.

The District
Urban Planning/Entertainment/Housing
This project comprises 2.4 million square feet dedicated to a waterfront ballpark district proposed by the Oakland Athletics,in Oakland,California. The intention of the project is to explore how design and programming can foster equity and connection between historic Oakland neighborhoods amidst the threat of ongoing gentrification in the city.Challenges of design are linked to the social and economic status of locals, and creating a sense of pride for where one lives.Highlighting the diverse population in a way that encourages growth for not only the baseball franchise, but the Oakland residents,is an intimate balance on this site.
Initial programmatic elements included a community center, parking, entertainment, recreation, education, housing, and training facilities, alongside the ballpark itself. The importance of this was in direct opposition to the proposal presented by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).

Ozark Jubilee
Theatre/Apartments
The Ozark Jubilee was a 1950’s televised country music show that helped country music artists move into mainstream popular music.Names such as Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, and Patsy Cline performed in the iconic Jewell Theatre in Springfield,MO before its closing in late 1960.This project reuses the site of the Jewell Theatre for a new country music venue that pays homage to the history of the Ozark Jubilee. The program includes not only the live event venue, but an artist housing component with classrooms and a recording studio for short term residencies.Importance is placed on the juxtaposition between the unkept and rough edges of the soul of country, with the push for delight and refinement in city entertainment spaces.

Memorial Museum
This project was intended to celebrate the lives of those who lost their lives on flight 752 out of Iran. The project is located in Tehran,on 5.7 million square feet of site. The program includes a museum as well as an outdoor garden that opens into a public park and memorial walk. The design is heavily influenced by the inverted tulip, which is a flower native to Iran, and is a powerful semiotic in Persian culture. The tragic loss of flight 752 can be compared to this flower,as it reminds us that life is fragile, but there is always persistence after such loss. The concern for families and friends to mourn their loved ones while still feeling a sense of strength and hope is considered at large in this design.
The proposed superstructure is a post-and-beam assembly using A36 grade hot-rolled,wide-flange, structural steel. The design deploys a rigid frame building method with a circular rigid frame core to stabilize against lateral forces. The centers of force and stiffness are aligned to minimize building torsion.Frames are also located in alignment with the centers of force and stiffness to minimize eccentricity.Connections are fully restrained and the beams are fixed.

Chicago Fire Boat House
First Responder/Community Center
Located on the Chicago river, this project was a proposal for a Fire Boat House that can function as a firehouse,a dock for fire boats, and a community center. The concept for this design was efficiency and response time. The floor plan consists of square and rectangular forms to increase the speed needed for the job. This form also allows for division of levels to accommodate privacy for bunk rooms and operative areas.Programmatic flow was considered with lots of intentionality to ensure fast and safe egress from the building.

The Quad
Community Studio Project
The Drury University Fraternity Quad is a neglected space on the northwest corner of campus where the university’s fraternity houses reside. All four houses surround a concrete area that has sparse grass and few seating options. The site sits across from Cox North Hospital, and it is common for people to pass through the quad on their way from the hospital to downtown Springfield. This location means safety and privacy were top concerns for the clients.Other priorities include comfort, placemaking, experience, connection, and play–results from the community workshop conducted at the beginning of the project. The ultimate goal for this project was to create a revitalized space where all Drury students feel that they belong,in order to destigmatize campus attitudes regarding Greek life.
