you are at and who you are with (really the important part) and you will have a good time.

Welcome to September gearheads! If you hadn’t noticed, the calendar rolled over another month on us...and much to soon I dare say!

Make it even better by going to a show during the day and driving a little bit (or a lot) and go it a cruisein in the evening. Talk about double barrel fun!

September brings with it some cooler temps (finally!) and what I consider the best time of year to go to a local or national car show or cruise-in.

Speaking of upcoming events, if you are or your organization is putting on a show or cruise-in, the SOONER you get us the info the better we can help get the word out on your event. The earlier we get the flyer (you really should have one) the exposure you have and the better the turn you can be. If you wait to the last minute, folks will make pans to go somewhere else and you lose out.

Apparently a lot of you think the same way about the fall season (It doesn’t start until Sept 21st) and gearhead fun. The number of shows we will be sharing over the next 46weeks will greatly expand each issue of the Gearhead Gazzette.

We’re not complaining...just letting you know what your in for...tough decisions ahead.

Finally some of you have asked where are the feature stories we run. Well with the size of each issue we have use that space for more car show listings. Never fear, we have a lot of feature material lined up for you in the very near future.

We hear some of you gearheads complaining about ALL THE SHOWS THERE ARE at this time of year. What is there to complain about?? Choices are good. Yes there may be 2 or 3 events on one day or weekend that you want to go to… so what! PICK ONE and go have a good time. Quit worrying about what you might have missed and concentrate on enjoying where

THREE PENNY – POTEET’S ’36 FORD CROWNED GOODGUYS 2019 BASF AMERICA’S MOST BEAUTIFUL STREET ROD George Poteet is no stranger to the winner’s circle. His vehicles have won just about every honor, award, and accolade imaginable, from Detroit’s Ridler Award, to the Hot Rod Magazine trophy awarded to the fastest car at Bonneville Speed Week. Two titles he has never won before this year, though, are the coveted America’s Most Beautiful Roadster trophy at the Grand National Roadster Show, and the prestigious Goodguys BASF America’s Most Beautiful Street Rod honor. The “Three Penny” 36 Ford roadster built by the team at Pinkee’s Rod Shop earned him the former title in Pomona in January, and this weekend in Pleasanton at the West Coast Nationals the refined roadster beat out four other finalists to take home the Goodguys AMBSR crown!

The roadster’s quiet, simple elegance belies the years of labor and magnitude of work involved in bringing it to life – more than 20,000 man hours, according to Pinkee’s owner Eric Peratt. Like so many of today’s top-caliber builds, it’s essentially a coach-built creation, with only a few small areas of original ’36 Ford sheet metal that have been left untouched. It’s still unmistakably a ’36 Ford, though, which was a key objective on the build.

The car’s name came about when Eric first described the custom-mixed paint color to George. He said it basically looked like chocolate milk, and George quipped that he used to pay three pennies for a carton of chocolate milk as a kid. The Three Penny name stuck after that. Beautiful chrome by Sherm’s Custom Plating complements the rich, earthy paint color.
