The E-Class manual and automatic transmissions

A six-speed manual transmission isstandardon the four-cylinder models and on the E280CDI andtheE280.Itsprecise,short-throwaction, and optimal matching of engine power, transmission ratios and final drive ratio, make it ideal for sporty yet fuel-efficient driving.

The4MATICmodelsareequippedasstandard, and the four-cylinder models optionally, with a 5-speed automatic transmission. For sportier shifting however, you can simply nudge the selector lever to the left or right to go manually up or down the range.

State-of-the-art transmission technology is also offered by the 7G-TRONIC 7-speed automatic transmission.The seven forward speeds provide a larger ratio spread between the highest andthelowestgearswhileatthesametime the ratios are also more closely spaced, keeping enginespeedconstantlyatanoptimumand making the gear changes virtually imperceptible. The ability to skip several gears when downshifting provides faster mid-range acceleration. The 7G-TRONIC is standard on the E320CDI, E420CDI, E350, E500 and E63AMG andoptionalforthe E280CDIandE280.

The optional sports package includes steeringwheel shift paddles for racing-style manual shifting on vehicles with automatic transmission.
