Mercedes-Benz milestones

It all started with an unseen revolution. Several decades ago, when Mercedes-Benz presented the first production car with passive safety features, the innovations on board – the safety cell with crumple zones – were invisible to the observer.

Since then Mercedes-Benz has time and again proved a pioneer in the field of safety. In 1978 it was a Mercedes-Benz that helped put ABS on the map, and just three years later airbags and belt tensioners made their debut in a standard-production vehicle. The list goes on –from the introduction of ESP` to PRE-SAFE` .

Throughout, Mercedes-Benz has doggedly been pursuing one goal: the vision of accident-free driving. It will be a while before this vision becomes reality, but with PRO-SAFE™ the goal has moved a step closer to fulfilment.
