Recent Events: • We put our concession trailer into operation at the Lawrence 4th of July celebration, the Greenwood Assembly Church, the Boone County 4-H fair, and the Derby Day Festival in Morristown. Most of the events proved profitable. We are on a learning curve as to what to sell from it., but the future looks good! Many thanks for the help from the detachment members who gave their time at each event (see page 2). We are always looking for people to help set up and tear down the trailer—an hour or two is all it takes! • Our parade trailer was borrowed by the Wortman Lowe Enduring Freedom Detachment from Morristown and it got a First Place blue ribbon for best Veteran Float. Many thanks to the Wortman Lowe members in helping us with our concession trailer. Their detachment has grown and they are involved in several projects for raising funds for various causes. Come to our meetings and get involved in our projects or they are going to bump us out of our position in central Indiana! Announcements: • I don’t want to jump the gun but it looks like we may get our parade trailer painted for a very little cost. More on that next month. • I will be at the National League Convention 5-12 August. We will have our Americanism books there and we’re hoping for another award for them. • The book of the month is First to Fight by Gen Victor H. Krulak. Any of the suggested books should be in our library at the office. If you can’t find them there, contact me and I will ensure that you get a copy. After you finish a book, please return it ASAP so others can borrow it. • I’d like to add that you definitely need to read the books written by our own leaguer, Donald F. Myers. He has written six, but the main ones to me are “Your War My War” and “101 Sea StoInside This Edition ries.” See pages 2 & 4 for more info From the Helm……………………………1 about Don and his Upcoming Events……………………….. 1 books. Drum and Bugle Corps Goes Cellular Buglers and drummers from the Oldest Post of the Marine Corps have created the most up-to-date setting for Marine music -- the cellular telephone. "The Commandant's Own," The United States Marine Drum & Bugle Corps now features MP3 ringtones, which can be downloaded from any personal computer. As the first in the U.S. Armed Forces to offer cell phone ringtones, the drum & bugle corps personally recorded a diverse mixture of public domain music, to include drum cadences, bugle calls, marches, and 1 their most notable stylings in jazz.
