At the Greater Coachella Valley Chamber of Commerce (GCVCC), we remain focused on creating meaningful opportunities for our members and strengthening the business community across our valley. I want to share a few highlights of the impactful work we are doing together.
One of our proudest achievements this year has been the success of our Employer Connect program. This innovative initiative helps local businesses reduce their workers’ compensation costs and reinvest those savings back into their operations. To date, the program has already returned over $500,000 directly into the pockets of local businesses, keeping more dollars circulating here in the Coachella Valley. This is just one example of how the Chamber provides tangible value to our members.
Looking ahead, we are excited to host several major events that bring our region’s leaders and business community together. Our All Valley Mayors, County and Tribal Chairpersons Luncheon will be an extraordinary gathering where community leaders will discuss regional priorities, challenges, and opportunities. Not long after, we’ll present the La Quinta State of the City, where city leadership will share updates on growth, development, and future plans for one of our valley’s most vibrant communities. These events are not just informative—they foster collaboration and unity across the region.
Beyond events, advocacy remains at the core of our mission. The Chamber works diligently with our elected leaders, supporting bills that advance business and community development while opposing those that could hinder growth. To keep our members informed and engaged, we offer a live bill tracker on our website where you can monitor legislative activity in real time. Transparency and accessibility are central to ensuring our members have a voice in the process.
Another exciting milestone for us is the relocation of our Indio offices to the College of the Desert Indio campus. This move opens the door to new collaborations with the college and allows us to expand programming in ways that will benefit both students and businesses. We’ll be announcing new initiatives in partnership with COD soon, and we look forward to sharing them with you.
Finally, the Chamber continues to provide ample opportunities for networking and relationship building. From mixers and ribbon cuttings to social hours and business networking events, we bring people together to share ideas, forge partnerships, and celebrate local success stories.
The GCVCC is here to serve as your partner in growth, advocacy, and community. To learn more about our programs, events, and initiatives, please visit gcvcc.org.
Together, we are building a stronger Coachella Valley.

On August 8th, La Quinta rolled out the welcome mat for one of the most exciting new additions to its social and recreational scene: The Golf Bar. From the moment the doors opened, the response was overwhelming. Locals packed the venue, eager to experience something fresh, fun, and undeniably unique. The turnout proved one thing— the community had been waiting for just this kind of place, and The Golf Bar delivered.
“It was humbling,” the owners said. “We knew La Quinta would be a great fit, but the energy and support exceeded even our highest expectations.”
The Coachella Valley has long been regarded as the golf capital of the United States, with courses that draw enthusiasts from around the world. But The Golf Bar brings a new spin to that legacy. While golf is at its heart, the concept blends immersive sports simulation, quality dining, craft beverages, and a lively social atmosphere into one dynamic package. “For us, La Quinta was a natural choice,” the owners explained. “This is the mecca of golf. But more importantly, we wanted to give year-round locals a place to
gather, play, and enjoy themselves. Fulltime residents deserve entertainment and dining options that aren’t dependent on the season.”
That focus on the community—not just tourists or snowbirds—has shaped every detail of the La Quinta location.
What truly sets this location apart from other California sites is its sheer size. Almost twice as large as The Golf Bar’s previously biggest venue, the La Quinta site was designed to welcome groups of all sizes, from intimate date nights to large corporate gatherings.
“We wanted to be big enough for the entire valley,” the team shared. “This isn’t just another entertainment spot—it’s a destination where families, friends, and coworkers can all come together.”
The added space means more simulators, more seating, and more flexibility in designing experiences tailored to every guest. Whether it’s a casual night out, a birthday party, or a competitive league match, the venue has room for it all.
Of course, golf is at the core of the brand, and The Golf Bar doesn’t cut corners. Each
simulator is powered by Full Swing Golf, the gold standard of the industry. Known for its accuracy and immersive feel, Full Swing is trusted by professional golfers— including many who install the same systems in their homes. The simulators even power TGL, the much-anticipated professional indoor golf league.
But The Golf Bar also knows that not everyone in a group is a golfer. That’s why their simulators offer a menu of other games that make the experience approachable and fun for everyone. Guests can challenge each other to football, soccer, skeeball, carnival games, zombie dodgeball, tic-tac-toe, and connect fore, among others.
The idea is simple: when you come to The Golf Bar, you can choose your own adventure. Serious golfers can hone their skills, casual players can have fun without pressure, and non-golfers can dive into alternative games that keep the energy lively.
True to its name, The Golf Bar pairs entertainment with a carefully crafted food and drink program. The bar is stocked with a mix of classics and local craft favorites, ensuring guests always have something fresh to sip on.
The kitchen, meanwhile, emphasizes shareable bites—flavorful, fun, and easy to enjoy while you’re mid-game. Think finger foods that don’t skimp on quality but are designed for a night that’s as much about activity as it is about eating.
“Everything was designed with playing games in mind,” the owners explained. “It’s all delicious, but also functional—you can eat and play without missing a beat.”
And while the team is still rounding out its drink list, guests can expect a few signature items and local collaborations to appear on the menu in the near future.
From day one, The Golf Bar has prioritized building meaningful connections in the Coachella Valley. The team is already developing partnerships with schools, golf clubs, and local nonprofits to host fundraisers and community events. Leagues are in the works, designed to encourage friendly competition across the valley’s golf-loving population, while tournaments will give groups of friends and coworkers a chance to show off their skills.
Private parties, corporate events, and charity fundraisers are also a natural fit for the space, which was intentionally designed with flexibility in mind. Already in its first few weeks, the venue has
hosted corporate events with glowing feedback.
But beyond planned programming, the venue has also tapped into something more intangible: a genuine sense of gratitude. “We’ve had so many guests thank us for opening here,” the team shared. “That’s incredibly rewarding—it makes us even more excited about what’s to come.”
Walking into The Golf Bar, guests won’t find hushed tones or strict etiquette. Instead, the atmosphere is lively, upbeat, and welcoming. Music fills the space, sports play across big screens, and laughter echoes as groups cheer one another on.
The philosophy is simple: fun comes first. “We wanted a place where people could relax and enjoy themselves. We love golf, but we don’t want golf claps—we want cheers, high fives, and lots of smiles.”
That energy makes it equally appealing for a Friday night out, a family day, or an afternoon escape from the desert heat.
The Golf Bar team sees its La Quinta opening as part of a bigger story—the evolution of indoor golf and social entertainment. With the desert climate often keeping players off the course during the hottest months, an indoor alternative offers year-round accessibility. Add in the variety of games, a great menu, and a community-driven approach, and it’s easy to see why the venue has already become a local favorite.
As the team looks to the future, they’re confident that The Golf Bar will continue to play an important role in shaping La Quinta’s social scene. “We’re here to stay,” they emphasized. “This community has embraced us, and we’re excited to keep giving back.”
The Golf Bar is now open in La Quinta. To learn more, visit www.thegolfbar. com, follow @thegolfbar on Instagram, or call 760.775.9153. For private parties or event bookings, email parties@ thegolfbar.com.
The grand opening may have only just passed, but one thing is already clear: The Golf Bar isn’t just a place to play—it’s a place to belong.

Story by: Sherry Barkas/City of La Quinta
Seated around a table in the boardroom of the Old Town Artisan Studios in La Quinta on a Friday afternoon in July, four couples chatted as they worked on pottery in a class for people with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers.
Many are unlocking a creative talent they didn’t know they had while making new friends traveling a similar path, sharing experiences, helpful information and resources.
The Alzheimer’s Program was started by Old Town Artisan Studios (OTAS) in 2010 in partnership with the Alzheimer’s
Association – California Southland Chapter (Alzheimer’s Association).
The free classes draw on average about a dozen participants who say they benefit by losing themselves in their artwork, getting out of the house and socializing in a comfortable environment.
Allen and Sherry Tarzwell of La Quinta started attending the classes in January, after learning the day after Christmas that she was in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
“My mom had had it,” she said.
They heard about the program at OTAS through their doctor’s office, right after they got her diagnosis.
“We can do the art together, so that’s kind of neat,” Allen Tarzwell said, adding they do pottery, painting, wall hangings and more in the classes.
All of their work is displayed in their home.
Instructor Jess Jordan has been “extremely helpful and encouraging. Even though you don’t know too much about art, she’s right there with you,” Allen Tarzwell said.
He is a retired a schoolteacher and Sherry Tarzwell is a hairdresser who still works when she can.
Through people they have met in the art program, Allen Tarzwell learned about a support group for spouses and caregivers offered through the Alzheimer’s Association that has been beneficial, and there is a calendar of other programs offered.
“I’m really glad that people started telling me right off the bat (about the program),” he said. People are happy to share information about groups and programs they are involved with or know about, he added.
It’s easy to want to huddle at home when you get the diagnosis and programs like the Alzheimer’s Art Program make it easier to get out and socialize.
“I like to get out. Being at home all the time, I’m just not used to it,” Sherry Tarzwell said.
Victory’s Vision
OTAS, at 78046 Calle Barcelona, was started in 2009 by Victory Grund, whose dream was to create opportunities for everyone, no matter their age or ability, to tap into their creativity.
Grund found her own passion for art when she was struggling with depression and alcoholism.
A friend introduced her to an artist who put a ball of clay in her hand and told her to make something. Grund had never created art before and immediately found it to be “like medicine, it really heals your soul,” she has said.
She wanted others to know the same feeling and began introducing youth to pottery when volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club. She did the same with friends struggling with depression.
She ultimately started OTAS with a vision of opening doors to the world of art to all through programs offered for free onsite and through mobile outreach.
When she decided to open a studio, Grund said she floated her idea to 18 friends and asked each if they would commit $100 a month to help cover the rent for a building she found in Old Town La Quinta.
Eight years later, in 2017, OTAS moved to the sprawling 3-acre campus on Calle Barcelona, where it could expand and add programs and classes.
The 20,000 square feet of building space is home to seven working studios including a fully equipped pottery studio with rows of wheels and a room that houses eight professional kilns. There are workshop areas and a pottery room where individuals or groups can choose from a vast selection of pieces to paint.
The Leland Gallery hosts rotating art exhibitions and opening receptions, and an on-site retail shop offers handmade goods and artisan crafts for sale with proceeds supporting local artists and OTAS’s outreach programs.
Outside, the campus has tree-lined gardens, brick patios, and a cascading waterfall. In the center is a “Never-to-beForgotten” fountain dedicated to those who have served in the military. Around the base of the fountain are more than 600 tiles with messages of thanks and hope hand-painted by area children to veterans.
Various classes, private instruction, and independent studio use along with outdoor concerts are also offered for fees that help fund and expand OTAS’s outreach initiatives.
OTAS’s outreach programs go to schools, senior centers, and other locations throughout the Coachella Valley.
On select Saturdays during the holiday season OTAS turns into a winter wonderland with Gingerbread Lane, which includes a decorated 17-foot tree, a Holiday Cottage where Santa and Mrs. Claus can be found, gingerbread cookies to eat and decorate, and more.
Alzheimer’s Program Added
The OTAS Alzheimer’s Art Program was started in 2010, when two women signed up for a semi-private clay class accompanied by their uncle who had Alzheimer’s.
While working with clay, Grund saw how his face lit up with a huge smile and she set about creating a program for people with Alzheimer’s.
According to WebMD.com, painting, drawing, and other forms of art therapy can help people with Alzheimer’s disease express themselves. Expression through art can become especially important as a person’s ability to communicate through words deteriorates.
“We witness remarkable transformations in individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia when they engage in artmaking,” said Peggy Schulz, an artist and the director of development for OTAS.
“Even when memory and language begin to fade, creativity often remains accessible. Through art, we see participants become more engaged, expressive, and emotionally present,” she said.
They praise each other’s work, and the ongoing positivity gives them something to look forward to and humanizes the unfortunate part of what is going on with them, Schulz said.
Class sizes average about a dozen participants each – the people with Alzheimer’s and dementia and their caretakers.
“One of the most profound shifts is the way it restores dignity – allowing individuals to be seen for who they are, rather than what they’ve lost. It’s not just therapeutic, it’s humanizing,” Schulz said. The Alzheimer’s Association – California Southland Chapter and Alzheimer’s Coachella Valley (ACV) each provide a variety of programs and resources for the person diagnosed with the disease and family and caregivers.
Through a grant from the Auen Foundation, OTAS can offer more classes through its partnerships with the Alzheimer’s Association and ACV.
“So, now we’re offering one Alzheimer’s class per week – four times per month – between the two foundations, free of charge to the participants,” Schulz said.
The Alzheimer’s Association – California Southland Chapter has an office at74020 Alessandro Drive, Palm Desert. For more information about its programs, services and ways to help, visit www.alz.org/socal or call 760-996-0006.

Husband and wife Frank Duncan and Laura DuMaurier of La Quinta have been participating in the art program for about two years.
Duncan has Alzheimer’s and together they enjoy the program and all that it offers, beyond the artwork.
“I thought it was wonderful to have this presented to us. I just enjoy this kind of stuff where you’re using your hands to create stuff,” said Duncan, a retired massage therapist.
“It’s a very supportive, welcoming atmosphere. After we leave here, he always says, ‘Wow, I really enjoyed that’,” DuMaurier said.
She loves being able to do the program together, and seeing her husband enjoy it so much.
“He’s always amazed at the pieces of art he has created. He can’t believe he’s done these things,” she said. “I say this is yours, you did this. He’s like, ‘Really? That’s amazing,’” she said.
Many of his pieces are displayed in their garden, DuMaurier said, especially hanging pieces such as the glass mosaics Duncan has created in the program.
“They’re beautiful; they’re just gorgeous. They hang in the wind and twinkle in the sun. So, we love that. We see them every day,” she said.
Old Town Artisan Studios is at 78046 Calle Barcelona. For more information about the Alzheimer’s and other programs and classes, visit www.oldtownartisanstudios.org or call 760-777-1444.

She Sang Me A Good Luck Song: The California Indian Photographs of Dugan Aguilar, on exhibit through eptember 20
This exhibition reveals the richness and vibrancy of Native California cultures, featuring the works of Dugan Aguilar (Mountain Maidu/Pit River/Walker River Paiute). Aguilar, a well-known photographer of Native life, spoke his heart through his photography. Aguilar’s photos defy the romanticized and melodramatic images by which Native people are often depicted. Ranging from portraits of military veterans, basket makers, and dancers to meditative landscapes, Aguilar’s work documented – and contributes to – the perseverance and renewal of Native California’s living, vibrant cultures.
“She Sang Me A Good Luck Song: The California Indian Photographs of Dugan Aguilar” is a partnership with Exhibit Envoy, Heyday Books, and the Native Fund, curated by Theresa Harlan and artist Dugan Aguilar.

La Quinta’s thriving real estate landscape has a new reason to celebrate. Coldwell Banker Realty has officially opened a state-of-the-art office right here in the “Gem of the Desert.” This exciting development not only strengthens our city’s real estate services but also reflects the continued growth and opportunity in our community.
For decades, Coldwell Banker Realty has been synonymous with trust, professionalism, and innovation in the real estate industry. Now, with a dedicated La Quinta office, residents and future homeowners can benefit from an even higher level of personalized service and local expertise, backed by the resources of one of the most recognized and respected real estate brands in the world.
Why Coldwell Banker Realty Leads the Industry
Coldwell Banker Realty has earned its reputation as an industry leader for more than 118 years. With offices in over 40 countries and territories, the brand’s reach is global, but its commitment is local. Here’s why Coldwell Banker Realty stands apart:
• Unmatched Brand Recognition Coldwell Banker is one of the most
trusted names in real estate. Its reputation opens doors, literally, by attracting buyers from across the country and around the world.
• Cutting-Edge Marketing From professional photography and highdefinition video tours to targeted online advertising and luxury property marketing through the exclusive Coldwell Banker Global Luxury program, the company ensures each listing stands out in a competitive marketplace.
• Data-Driven Expertise Coldwell Banker agents have access to the latest market analytics, allowing them to price properties strategically, negotiate effectively, and guide clients with confidence.
• Local Knowledge, Global Network The La Quinta office is staffed with agents who live and work in the Coachella Valley. They understand our neighborhoods, schools, recreation, and lifestyle, and they also have the connections to market homes to buyers beyond our zip codes.
• Commitment to Service The hallmark of Coldwell Banker Realty is its commitment to putting clients first. This means clear communication, integrity, and an unwavering focus on helping buyers and sellers achieve their goals.
• Move with Integrity At the heart
of Coldwell Banker’s philosophy is a dedication to conducting every transaction with honesty, transparency, and respect, ensuring clients can move forward with complete confidence.
• The La Quinta Real Estate Market: Strong and Steady
Our city continues to shine as one of California’s most desirable destinations for both full-time residents and seasonal homeowners. With its breathtaking Santa Rosa Mountain backdrop, worldclass golf courses, vibrant arts scene, and year-round resort lifestyle, La Quinta remains a magnet for those seeking the best of desert living.
• Steady Demand: Even with shifts in interest rates, demand for La Quinta homes remains consistent, particularly among buyers from coastal California, the Pacific Northwest, and Canada seeking second homes or retirement properties.
• Luxury Appeal: Homes in gated communities, golf course properties, and modern desert architecture continue to command strong interest. The median price for La Quinta homes has stabilized after the rapid increases of recent years,
offering more predictability for both buyers and sellers.
• Limited Inventory: While more homes are coming to market compared to last year, inventory remains below historical averages. This creates opportunities for sellers, as well-priced homes in desirable locations often attract multiple offers.
Coldwell Banker Realty’s decision to open an office here speaks volumes about our city’s position in the Coachella Valley. La Quinta offers an exceptional balance of small-town charm and modern convenience. From the quaint shops and restaurants of Old Town to the internationally renowned American Express Golf Tournament and La Quinta Arts Celebration, our community blends culture, recreation, and hospitality like nowhere else.
The city’s commitment to thoughtful growth, quality infrastructure, and maintaining its natural beauty makes it a
not just a real estate transaction. It is the start of a lifestyle filled with sunshine, connection, and opportunity.
The new Coldwell Banker Realty office will serve as a hub for both buyers and sellers, offering:
• Personalized Consultations: Understanding each client’s goals, timeline, and preferences.
• Professional Staging & Presentation: Showcasing properties in their best light to attract top-dollar offers.
• Negotiation Expertise: Navigating offers, counteroffers, and contingencies to protect clients’ interests.
• Relocation Assistance: Helping newcomers find the perfect neighborhood and settle in smoothly.
• Local Insight: Sharing knowledge on market trends, community amenities, and property values.

our community’s continued growth and prosperity. As the real estate market evolves, having a trusted partner with global reach and local expertise becomes more important than ever.
