Dear Colleague and Partner: Thank you for all that you’ve done for students of your community and the children of the state of Ohio. As we enter this new year, with the continuation of COVID and the chaos around masks, vaccinations and quarantining, let us renew our commitment to protecting and enhancing student physical and academic health. The Ohio Schools Council set out this year continuing its support in helping schools navigate through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it was procuring products that were in limited supply, securing volume discounts or connecting our districts with valuable guidance, our goal was to assist our members during these unprecedented times. Our mission remains the same — provide reliable, trusted and turn-key products and programming designed to create efficiencies and save time and money. This year, we focused on ways districts could best-utilize local and federal dollars to improve building safety, upgrade sanitization processes and improve air quality. We held multiple webinars across the state to highlight and explain ESSER fund uses, prioritization and procurement methods. As a result, we helped more than a dozen districts improve Indoor Air Quality (AIQ) using federal funding. We anticipate that this work, which began in late FY 21, will continue through the fall of 2021 and possibly even into the spring of 2022. This work presents a significant opportunity for school districts to continue to fight the COVID-19 virus while continuing to provide face-to-face instruction to students. We engaged with local engineering firms to help inform best practices and procedures and selected products and services recommended by experts. More than 130 districts have purchased over $1.6 million in supplies through the OSC COVID-19 Catalog this year and that number continues to grow. We are excited to report that this year we have added 9 new members to the organization, including Bowling Green Schools, Bryan City Schools, Columbiana County Career & Technical Center, Hicksville Ex. Village Schools, Mansfield City Schools, New Philadelphia Schools, Northwest Ohio ESC, Urban Community School and West Holmes Local Schools. Looking forward, we are committed to helping our members serve their students and achieve their organizational goals while also saving them time, money and valuable resources. We will continue to enhance our current programs and add new programming and services aligned with district need, expert guidance and current trends. Please do not hesitate to contact us and explore our programs, which are designed to help lighten the burden on your district — both financially and resourcefully.

Everyday General Food Essentials with GFS
Members can participate in this program by signing a Prime Vendor Participation Agreement and purchasing 90% of your purchases through GFS, excluding bakery, milk, and produce. As a participant, you are eligible to earn up to 2.5% annually. If your district is currently participating in another cooperative (HPS or APC) we would like to provide a cost analysis to compare pricing. You simply need to run a velocity report and we will compare the top 100 items that you purchase to OSC’s discount pricing. The OSC program offers rebates that are comparable to other co-op rebates. OSC Cooler Rentals can save your district thousands!
Are you renting coolers from your milk vendor? Do you know? Milk vendors charge between 1⁄2 cent and 1 cent per 1⁄2 pint of milk for you to use their coolers depending on the vendor. You are charged this fee for all half pint purchases, even if you only use 1 of their milk coolers. Milk coolers generally last between 15 and 20 years. Districts that purchase their own milk coolers will save big! You will only be charged for the cost of milk, fixed or monthly escalator, depending on what pricing your district selects. Two recent examples of districts saving money through the OSC Cooler program include: • A Greater Cleveland district saving $19,022 in 15 years and $46,699 in 20 years after deducting the cost of the 32 milk coolers they purchased. • Another Northern Ohio district will save $36,860 in 15 years and $53,649 in 20 years after purchasing 7 new milk coolers.
OSC Waste & Recycling Award provides firm pricing for next 3 years!
The Waste & Recycling contract was awarded to Waste Management of Ohio for the following Counties: Clark, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Hancock, Huron, Lake, Licking, Lucas, Mahoning, Medina, Ottawa, Portage, Summit, Trumbull, Wayne and Wood Counties and Republic Services for Lorain County for July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2024. Waste Management’s pricing is firm for 3 years. Republic Services is firm for the first year of service (July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022). Year 2 and Year 3 will have a maximum of 3.5 escalator each year.

Deadline to apply for the OFCC School Safety Program - Nov. 1, 2021 OSC can assist your district via our Safety Services Program! Recently passed legislation by the Ohio General Assembly established the School Safety Grants program, providing $5 million in funding to eligible schools for improvements to the overall physical security and safety of their buildings. This competitive grant program authorizes the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) to reimburse eligible schools up to $100,000 per school for costs incurred after December 29, 2020.
