President’s Message Glenn Matthews, CGCS contact your local assemblymen or state representative. The world is opening back up! On April 19th Dairy Creek Golf Course hosted an in person event featuring its beautiful 9 hole golf course and its brand new Top Tracer hitting bays. The Top Tracer technology has the ability to provide Glenn Matthews, CGCS feedback on launch angle, ball speed, curve, and distance in real time. A variety of games can be played by players of all levels. It was exciting for our group to be able to experience the fun. The space offered magnificent views of San Luis Obispo and surrounding peaks. 20 superintendents and affiliate members enjoyed the day.
Finally, now that public spaces are opening up the association is excited to offer a full calendar of events for the coming year. There is an equipment demo day coming up at Woodbridge C.C. May 17th, the Al Glaze Scholarship in June, the Tri Chapter event at Del Rio C.C. in August, a field day at Ridge Creek G.C. in September, the Annual Charity event in October, and if all goes well our annual Holiday event at Windows on the Water in December. Please make an effort to support your association and attend an event. See you soon,

On a less fun note, AB 672 was introduced to the California State Assembly in February and was amended in April. The bill directly targets public golf in California by allowing cities and counties to rezone public land for affordable housing. In California more than 20% of golf courses are owned and operated by cities and counties. So this bill could have a negative impact on many courses. The bill does not include other open space properties like parks, sports fields, or hiking trails. This is a direct threat to our industry and requires action from you. Around the Green by Jim Culley & Matt Graves Sierra Nevada GCSA is hosting a Vendor Demo day which they have invited our chapter to attend. The event will be held on May 17th and will be at Woodbridge Golf & C.C. in Woodbridge, CA This will be a great opportunity for our members to take their crews out for a day to experience hands on equipment demos and talk to factory reps. Don’t miss this opportunity. There is a new superintendent at Stockton Golf & C.C. Harjindor Toor comes to the valley from Orinda. The mechanic hunt continues throughout the valley. Anyone knowing of a mechanic that would like to work in the golf industry please send them our way. We have lots of opportunities. Rio Bravo has a new superintendent, Chris Hansen now has the job. We hope that Chris will be joining the association soon. In the south valley Seven Oaks G.C. is hosting a golf tourney for first responders on May 18th. GCSAA along with members of CAG, and the California GCSA will be working on the National Golf Day on May 12th. Numerous members of all the California Chapters will be assisting and participating in virtual meetings with Congressional staffers and members. Hot topics include the MPS, the PHIT act and H2B visa initiatives. As always please send any news our way so we can share with our members.

Dairy Creek Highlights April 2021 Dairy Creek has become the place to learn, practice, and play the game of golf in San Luis Obispo. . The facility has converted it’s 18 hole course to a 9 hole public facility that boasts the best practice areas within SLO County complete with an all grass driving range tee, practice greens, chipping and bunker greens, and they have just completed the construction of the Cal Poly Learning Center which is also available to the public. In addition they have opened Toptracer®. This is digital technology which takes golf to a new level of fun and excitement. Using the same technology seen on PGA broadcasts, Toptracer® computers transform the old “driving range” experience using launch, speed, curve and other data analysis – all delivered in real time as you hit your ball out onto our live range. All those attending were treated to the opportunity to try out this new technology. El Chorro Regional Park is located right next to the Golf Course and offers a variety of outdoor attractions and facilities including barbecue areas, softball fields, botanical gardens and various hiking trails. There are full hook up RV areas as well as tent camping. Plans for a zip line, miniature golf course, race way, and some rental cabins are in the works. This is also becoming a popular disk golf location for the competitive teams in California.
