GCAC 2025 Teen Lift Cotillion: ENCHANTED ELEGANCE

DELTA SIGMA THETA SORORITY, INC.

At the inception of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in 1913 at Howard University, the Founders envisioned an organization of college women pledged to serious endeavor and community service. These youthful students demonstrated a vital concern for social welfare, academic excellence, and cultural enrichment, and de-emphasized the social side of sorority life. Their ideals of scholarship and service have withstood the test of time, and, today, Delta Sigma Theta is a public service sorority, dedicated to a program of sharing membership skills and organizational services in the public interest. In 1930, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was incorporated as a national organization. The record of incorporation is filed in the Congressional Library in the Office of the Recorder of Deeds in Washington, D.C. Today, there are over 200,000 members and more than 900 chapters in 45 states, the Republic of Korea, Okinawa and Tokyo, Japan, England, Germany, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

President’s Message

Melonie M. Frazier

Greetings family, friends, debutantes and escorts. It is indeed my pleasure to welcome you to The Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated 42nd Teen Lift Cotillion.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private 501(c)7 non profit organization founded on Christian principles on January 13, 1913 by 22 dynamic young women on the campus of Howard University. Since our inception, we boast over 350,000 initiated members worldwide with over 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Jamaica, West Africa, Southern Africa, United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Korea.

In Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the Five-Point Programmatic Thrust—Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement—propel us forward.

It is my hope that our program has inspired our 21 debutantes and their escorts to be future leaders as they transition to young adults and that everlasting memories will be made tonight.

Thank you to the “Village” that surrounded and supported our debutantes and escorts in preparation for this program this past year.

My sincere appreciation is extended to the Teen Lift committee chairs, Angela Afzal and Le’Anna Miller, and the entire Teen Lift Committee for their steadfast dedication, passion and commitment for a successful program.

Debutantes, go forth and make the world great!

Sincerely,

February 16, 2025

To Our Esteemed Guests,

It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the 2025 Cotillion! Tonight, we are honored to present 21 elegant debutantes of the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Forty-two years ago, the Teen Lift Program was founded with a mission to address the educational, social, and cultural needs of young female scholars. Its purpose was to connect with youth in Greater Cleveland’s urban communities, exposing them to experiences designed to foster a sense of pride, purpose, and commitment to their community. We are proud to say that this program has positively impacted hundreds of young women in Greater Cleveland and surrounding areas.

The Teen Lift Program has remained steadfast in its dedication to empowering youth through meaningful service. This year’s program included a series of workshops aimed at promoting financial literacy, fostering a commitment to public service, enhancing social graces, and encouraging political and international awareness. Additionally, our debutantes participated in activities that strengthened familial bonds, such as the Mother-Daughter Tea, the Father-Daughter Celebration of Love, and the Healthy Relationships Workshop. We hope these experiences have left a lasting impression on our debutantes and their families.

This year’s theme, “Enchanted Elegance,” beautifully reflects the polished mindset of the twenty-one debutantes of the 2025 Teen Lift Program. These bright, accomplished, and confident young women represent a diverse tapestry of individuality, yet they share a unified goal and have collaborated seamlessly to achieve it. It has been a genuine joy and privilege to witness the strength of their bond and the growth of their camaraderie over the past few months.

We would be remiss if we did not recognize the invaluable support of the debutantes’ families, their escorts, and the escorts’ families. Your encouragement has been instrumental in making this program a success.

Lastly, we extend our deepest gratitude to the Teen Lift Committee. Your volunteerism, dedication, and hard work exemplify a spirit of service that is both rare and irreplaceable. Thank you for all that you have done to make this program an outstanding success.

With immense pride and gratitude, we are thrilled to introduce the 2025 Debutantes of the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

All the best,

Teen Lift Chair and Co-Chair

Memorable Moment

The most memorable moment in my life is road-tripping back to Cleveland from Miami after being out of the country for Christmas due to our connecting flight being canceled. Before this road trip, we were not sure if we would even be able to make it back home due to an active snowstorm. We were lucky to be able to rent the very last car available that would fit all 7 of us plus our luggage.

To lift the spirit, my mom and my aunt spent the whole 18 hours serenading everyone in the car. This is memorable for me because it not only shows the bonding my family did, but it shows that even when tough times and obstacles come, there is always some light at the end of the tunnel and to not let it discourage you from what is to come next.

Words of Encouragement

No matter what obstacles may come your way, always believe in yourself and put your best foot forward. No one can stop you but you! Mistakes are lessons that help you learn and grow. Never be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Be confident, resilient, and bold.

Memorable Moment

Making the state track team for the first time in my freshman year was memorable. I was the only freshman girl who joined my freshman year for indoor track. The girls I met were seniors (3), juniors (1), sophomores (2) and me. They were nice and welcoming and generally fun to hang out with. We got through hard workouts together and pushed each other everyday to get to the level we got for states. It made me realize how much potential I have and how far I could go. It’s more than a sport, you get a family out of it, and it’s also a character building sport. I love track and it has impacted me so much and made me the person I am today.

Words of Encouragement

Gosh! How time flies. You were just hanging on to my leg anywhere I go. Now look at you. Driving and everything. A grown beautiful young lady. I am so proud of you. I could cry as I write this. I know you’re going to continue on being successful. And will

be with you all the way!!!! Love you babe! Your Daddy!

Sydney, I am proud of you. Watching you grow from birth to a young woman has been an amazing ride. From your first steps to competing at state on relay track team, you are a consistent source of pride, motivating me. You carried the responsibility of the eldest of three and always modeled the right way to do things for your younger brother and sister. With good grades and working a few hours every week, you’re one fantastic daughter. I have ALWAYS felt this way about you. You’ve accomplished so much, and just getting started. I can rest at night knowing you have a solid head on your shoulders, and will always make decisions for the greater good. I love you minime forever and always. Love Mommy

Memorable Moment

A memorable moment for me was when I applied to a prestigious all-girls school. I had dreamed of attending since grade school. Despite doubts from others about my ability to get in on a scholarship, I applied from out of state and faced several challenges. When I got accepted, it was one of the best days of my life. I did it on my own and proved people wrong. That experience taught me that when I’m determined, anything is possible.

Words of Encouragement

Saying that we have been through a lot is an understatement. We have had many ups and downs; however we have overcome them and our battles have only strengthened our bond. Today and always please know that I see the young woman that you are becoming and I am proud and in awe. I see the how focused and persistent you are when you want to accomplish something. I see your brilliance, your enthusiasm, your passion, and how deeply you care and hurt sometimes. I see your wisdom, your courage and genuine compassion.

I wish you the strength to face challenges with confidence along with the wisdom to choose your battles carefully. I wish you many adventures during your journey of life, and may you always know that I will always be here for you. Listen to your heart and intuition and take risks carefully. Above all, remember how much you are loved. Whenever you feel overwhelmed, remember you are braver than you think, stronger than you seem and loved more than you know. I can’t promise to solve the problems in life that you will face, but I can promise that you will not have to face them alone. I will always be with you and you will always be my one and only baby girl. Never forget that I love you forever and always. Mommy

One memorable moment I have is competing in my first pageant. I initially had low expectations, knowing many of the girls had been competing since childhood. I was shocked and proved myself wrong. This experience showed me that with practice, pageants could be something I excel at.
