Search Me O God “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts.” Psalm 139:23 (KJV) The theme chosen for our church this year, was that of recalibration. Recalibration has to do with measuring one’s self or one’s activities against the standard. As Christians, the Word of God is the standard by which every area of our lives should be measured. It is necessary to recalibrate on periodic basis. Every organization or individual should take the time to evaluate its position in relationship to its goals, mission, and purpose. The rigor of everyday life and challenges can cause one to drift from his or her intended targets. That’s what the Palmist recognizes in Psalm 139. It is clear that the writer of the Psalm acknowledged that God is like a light house, who knows the whereabouts of all of those who belong to him. He is aware when we drift off course or when we are sailing through life going in the wrong directions. The writer of the Psalm employs God to search him and to test him followed by leading him to the place where he should be. This process, to which the Palmist was willing to submit himself, is the process of recalibration. The grace of God is such that God is always willing to examine us for the purpose of realigning us. We should all follow the model that the writer of the Psalms has given us. Allow God to examine every area of our life and then submit to the realigning process that He deems necessary. As our church embarks upon this latest Capital Stewardship Campaign, why not allow God to examine and guide us in serving, ministering and giving as He thinks we should. 7
