Gatewood Schools Anti-Bullying Policy All Gatewood students are expected to treat others with respect. Gatewood expressly prohibits bullying, bullying via electronic devices, harassment, intimidation, or any other conduct that is judged to make any student or staff member feel victimized, powerless, or marginalized. Gatewood enforces an anti-bullying policy to ensure opportunities for student success. Gatewood is committed to creating an environment of learning that is free from harassment, pestering, or other behaviors that negatively impact student achievement or well-being. It should be understood that “bullying” can come in different forms. It should also be understood that “bullying” is defined as deliberate, hurtful behavior that is repeated over a period of time. Therefore, any Gatewood student who is the subject of bullying should report the behavior to a teacher, coach counselor, or administrator. In turn, the administration will conduct an investigation to determine if, in fact, the student has been the target of bullying. If a student is believed to be targeting another student, then he/she will be issued a formal warning that the behavior must stop immediately. If the behavior persists, then the person or persons involved will be in violation of Gatewood’s Bullying Policy. Students in violation of Gatewood’s Anti-Bullying Policy will be subject to appropriate disciplinary actions stated in the school’s disciplinary code. The consequences will require a hearing before the Disciplinary Council and possible dismissal from Gatewood Schools. 35
