Surrogacy is one way that a couple can have children. In this arrangement a woman agrees to carry a baby in her womb for someone else or for a couple. The said person or couple will then raise the child as their own once it is born. Usually the reason for this is that the other woman is not able to carry a pregnancy to term for medical reasons. If the couple is of the same sex, they may choose to have a child in this manner.

International surrogacy involves a mother who lives in another country. This arrangement can be commercial or altruistic. If it is commercial, then there will be a need to pay the surrogate mother above what you will pay for medical costs. In such a case, the mother will be able to profit from the arrangement financially. If your arrangement is altruistic, then the surrogate will not benefit financially.
