IN THE CRADLE OF THE UNITED STATES

A trip to the heart of the USA, Virginia, where it all began to discover places still barely known to non-American tourists.

The cradle of the USA is known as the “Historic Triangle”, and includes some towns where the first British settlers settled when they colonized the New World 400 years ago. There are three towns that are worth a visit to retrace the events that made the United States of America the country it is today: Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown. The “historic triangle” is located just over a couple of hours’ drive from the capital, Washington D.C. The three cities are connected to each other by the scenic Colonial Parkway, which crosses the National Scenic Byway for 37 km. The perfect road trip to do in America. The first American colony was born in the 17th century in Jamestown. The city, named in homage to the King of England James I, was also the first capital of Virginia, while today it is Richmond. Among the citizens’ heroes is a certain John Smith, a mercenary who had the merit of establishing excellent relationships with the Native Americans, in particular with an Indian named Pocahontas, who inspired the famous Disney cartoon. Today Jamestown has been redeveloped as a theme park complete with an Indian village, fort and harbor with docked sailing ships.

Williamsburg is considered, however, the largest living history museum. It was where people like Thomas Jefferson lived, and James Monroe with others began to form the United States of America. Even today, in the oldest neighborhood, Colonial Williamsburg, is like a step back in time. The ancient wooden or red brick houses built between the 1600s and 1700s were those inhabited by the first settlers and still today are depicted in period costumes, but also ordinary people who love to wear traditional clothes roam the streets as if they

The Renaissance Village In Umbria

Built along the ancient Via Flaminia, the village of Acquasparta, one of the most beautiful in Italy, is part of a splendid natural setting between valleys and woods. It is a typical Umbrian village with a medieval layout, but which was especially successful in the Renaissance, a detail that is clearly visible in the extraordinary architecture of the buildings located in the historic centre, where the Renaissance Festival is celebrated every year in June. For 15 days a calendar of historical and cultural events is offered, but also recreational and gastronomic experiences to celebrate the great Renaissance season through historical re-enactments.

Historic Bressanone

The oldest city in South Tyrol and today it still retains an historic center partially surrounded by walls, accessible through five gates. Its cobbled streets lined with arcades under which shops and many clubs have sprung up are an invitation to stroll in every season. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart often passed through here during his travels in Italy. Bressanone was a bishop’s city and there are many places to visit, starting from the Cathedral with its frescoed 10th-century cloister to the Bishop’s Palace with the Diocesan Museum, the Hofburg, up to the Torre Bianca of the church of San Michele with its miniature bells. A perfect destination for a weekend trip.

Among the places to visit there is certainly the Christiana Campbell’s Tavern frequented by George Washington. Finally, the town of Yorktown is the one where the first struggles for Independence ended and where the birth of the new nation began. Few houses remain of the first historical settlement, some still belonging to private individuals. Here, British General Charles Cornwallis surrendered to General Washington in 1781 and his defeat ended the American Revolutionary War. Among the recommended tours is a visit to the battlefield. Yorktown also played an important role in the American Civil War as the major port for unloading supplies. For fans of US history, it’s a vacation balanced between history and nature, making it the perfect trip.
