Editorial Welcome to October’s edition of the Crier.

As the nights draw in, there is a noticeable ‘crisp’ in the evening air that tends to remind you summer is nearly over, as attentions turn to the winter ahead one can’t help feeling a little reflective.

The summer passed in the blink of an eye, it doesn’t seem like a second ago we were in the middle of April and surrounded by cardboard boxes, bubble wrap, packing up our house in Aylesbury heading for a new home in a village called Cublington.

Astonishingly having known nothing about Cublington or anyone dwelling here before we moved, it has not taken us very long to feel at home.

The stunning surroundings that we can reach like stepping into our own back garden helps us to unwind from a hard day’s work, with both of our careers in the fast paced aerospace industry the countryside is a welcome change to enjoy from the bustling Aylesbury town.

Cublington has been more than we could hope for, we certainly appreciate the simple things we are certain those living in the village have been doing for years such as; a chat over the garden fence, a ‘good morning’ when you pass someone in the street, a watchful eye on your property when on holiday, or simply taking a parcel in for a neighbour A national newspaper article recently reported that over a third of the UK live detached from their neighbours and we were certainly part of that figure before we moved, however the community spirit is very apparent in Cublington and has helped us settle in comfortably over the summer months, we are very much looking forward to many happy years here.

News in brief

A 7 year plan for OG is currently being formulated to allow for repairs, new equipment etc. To ensure spending is planned in advance and the requirements of all users are catered for OGC would like feedback from any members or users so that it can be added into the plan.

Many thanks to the Darlington and Gibby families for the use of the amazing tee-pees, £700 was raised for the OG through the Olympic Festival. A big thank you to Miranda and Colin for their organisation skills.

Apologies for the cancellation of the garage sale, we hope not too many people were disappointed.

Concerns have been raised re: the state of the pavilion after usage. OGC are working to ensure a swift resolution to this problem to ensure that the premises are suitable for the next event/club.

Please continue to supply us with any feedback with regards to this.

OGC are currently looking into setting up an electronic village 'Postie' scheme to keep everyone up to date about OG events.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

Like a lot of small boys I wanted to be a soldier.

I maintained to that ambition and joined the army when I left university.

What was your most unusual job?

Paying pensions to old soldiers in the hills of Nepal. I loaded up a pack with £150,000 worth of Nepali rupees (a huge pile of cash) and headed off with six porters, two clerks and a gaggle of police for protection (one of them armed with a blunderbuss) on a six week, 250 mile trek around the hills of eastern Nepal from where the soldiers on my regiment were recruited.

Who (alive or dead) would you like to have dinner with and why?

I would like to invite three others. Brian Johnston, the Test Match Special Cricket commentator.

Not only was he best commentator ever, and responsible for the legendary ‘Oh Aggers, do stop it’ leg-over incident but he had a rich hinterland. He was awarded the Military Cross in WWII and served with the Guards Armoured Division which was involved in Operation Market Garden (‘A Bridge Too Far’). P.G. Wodehouse would have to attend. He created a wonderful world in which I have been able to lose myself for years and was a superb writer. And I would like to invite my dad as he was always great company (even if his stories grew longer as he grew older) and he would have loved to meet Wodehouse, too.

What historical era would you like to have lived in and why?

I love here and now and think the world has so much to offer today despite the gloom that the press loves to spread, but the adventures available to the young and restless in the Victorian era would have been exciting.

Where would you want to live if not where you live now and why?

I have travelled all round the world and would love to experience a bit of the ex-pat lifestyle again. There is a closeness that probably harks back to Victorian days, but I could never settle anywhere other than England.

What is the temptation you wish you could resist?

I find it very hard not to pile my plate high with food.

Who is your favourite author?

The great P.G. Wodehouse, and the Blandings Omnibus would be my desert island book of choice. George MacDonald Fraser would be the runner-up. He was a great story teller who wrote the Flashman chronicles and ‘The General Danced at Dawn’ but was also a learned and precise historian so you learn as you laugh.

What is your favourite song? Year of the Cat by Al Stewart What is the pet hate that makes your hackles rise?

Rudeness and anti-social behaviour, especially leaky headphones and feet on seats in trains What is the unlikely interest that engages your curiosity?

I’m an enthusiastic gardener. Would never have foreseen that when I was younger.

Notes from a small (Cublington) Parish Council You may have noticed that Parish Council Minutes have appeared in the Crier sometime after a meeting is held. This is because after a Parish Council meeting we have statutory obligations to approve minutes at the subsequent meeting. To address this lag we have decided to insert "draft" minutes into the Crier for the most recent meeting (September 20th) - so residents have a more immediate view of activities and issues being discussed and decided upon.

Also noteworthy, Cublington achieved a very credible 78 out of 100 in the Best Kept Village Competition and details are attached to the draft minutes. W ell done to all those volunteers around the village for their grass cutting. We know who you are and your efforts are greatly appreciated. Another interesting report has been the increase in successful prosecutions for fly tipping - some hefty fines issued and note you can report fly tipping by going online via www.buckscc. gov.uk/fly. Finally, some good statistics on Cublington and crime. Level of crime has been low in Cublington so far this year. Since January this year there have been 4 reported crimes – 3 burglaries other than a dwelling and one theft of oil. Hopefully this helps you navigate the Minutes. We do have a Parish Councillor vacancy - if you would like to get involved to drive the wheels of local democracy (well oil them a bit!) then please contact our Chairman, Hugh Vale or any other Councillor. On that note - welcome to Julie Merriman who has been co-opted as a new Parish Councillor, having served with distinction as our Clerk for some time. Best wishes and thank you to Alan Yates and June Barrowclough who have left the Parish Council.

Some good highlights to report this month. The Cublington Parish Council are implementing an integrated approach towards helping to reduce speed through the village. There are 5 strands - road resurface with new line painting; Community Speed Watch where Cublington volunteers have been seen in September for the first time manning a speed camera; the erection of village gates and new signage (phase 1) - hopefully this year on the Aston Abbots and Wing Road initially; assessing quotes for a Portable speed activated data logging unit (we can track speed through the 30 mph zone, the time and frequency etc); advising residents when hedge or trees need cutting back if obstructing signage. Hopefully, over time, these measures will have some impact on driver behaviour. Michael Reilly

IT'S PANTO TIME AGAIN!

The script has been written and preparations are starting for the next pantomime. We are looking for people for acting roles, back stage, makeup, front of house and all the other jobs that go into making a successful production. Spotted Oliver Reilly and two work colleagues (Chloe and Alex) doing a litter pick in Cublington as part of a community project their employer sponsors.

10 full black sacks of rubbish collected. Great stuff - can they come back next weekend too!! The rubbish is back.

Someone has been cleaning the village direction signs at the Nob! Well done whoever you are.

New artificial strip has been installed at Orchard Ground for the cricketers.

The pond looking very sad and empty... hopefully starting to replenish after all the recent heavy rain.

Howes Fish and Chip van apparently stops in two places in the village on a Tuesday night - The Bermuda Triangkle as they called it - "The Nob" to villagers - and in Silver Street around 8.45 9.15pm as far as I can ascertain. Bell Close got no takers. Use it or we lose it, as they say!

Cleaners in at the Pavilion, giving the floor a jolly good clean. Good to see.

On-going maintenance at the tennis courts... scubbing and removal of the moss caused by leaf debris.

Diggers in at the cricket field, laying electric cable to the cricket shed/storage facility.

Horticultural Show 2016

Thank you very Much for all those who came and supported the Horticultural Show at the beginning of Sept. We were lucky to have some good weather and it was a great social and fun morning.

A big thank you to all the helpers who make it possible to run the show and an ENORMOUS thank you to all who sponsored the event.

The money raised, just over £1000, will go towards replacing the church outer door which is beginning to show its tremendous age and lets in the weather!

The Big winners this year were – David Bradbury – Growers Cup (runner up Jan Antosiewicz, 3rd place tie Martin Waters/Steve George) Domestic Cup – Gill Brazier Best in Show – Julie Merriman Well done to them all and all who took part.

Stewkley Players: Lighting Workshop Stewkley Players are offering an opportunity to anyone in or around Stewkley who might be interested in theatrical stage lighting, to participate in our lighting workshop. There is no obligation to be a member of the Players, and it is free to everyone. The goal of the workshop is to be educational and interesting, and hopefully all participants will learn something about lighting stage productions, and enjoy themselves whilst doing so!

The workshop will be staged over 3 weekends, and Part 1 will be held on Saturday October 22 from 10am to 1pm. Anyone interested, or thinking they might participate, is asked to contact

the Players via the website http://www.stewkleyplayers.co.uk ; the Facebook page; by email to info@ stewkleyplayers.com, via any Stewkley Player, or turn up on the morning. Everyone will be welcome.

Minimum age is 14, and there is no maximum age but climbing ladders will be required! Light refreshments will be available.

Part 1 includes learning the basics about the type of lights used by the Players, how they are hung in the Stewkley Village Hall, and how best to use them to light the village hall stage.

Part 2 will be held one week later on Sunday October 30 during the afternoon, when the lights

will be rigged for the Autumn Players’ production ‘Are You Being Served’ Participants will get handson experience of hanging the lights and programming the lighting desk for the play. Part 3 will be held towards the end of the year, and details will be available later. It is possible to participate in any or all of the three sessions.

Dear friends, I wonder how you cope when you feel someone/ some people are just being difficult for the sake of it or reacting in a frankly not very grown up way to something you have said or done?Disagreements on points of principle are inevitable of course and are entirely normal but sometimes we can overreact and not deal with things directly.It is sometimes easier, or so we can think, to avoid a face-to- face and just gossip, whisper in corners and studiedly not speak to the person we have a problem with. This is always unproductive and indeed can be positively destructive of relationships.

around the holy land He met them openly and indeed often very strongly. He never refused to deal with issues and I think we can learn so much from this straightforward approach.

An honest disagreement is good and fine,unnecessary unpleasantness is never so.

Jesus used to say in such cases,'let your yeah be yeah and your nay be nay'. All else would appear to be unhelpful.

Nearly half of us suffer from some form of back pain each year. National Back Care Awareness Week runs from 3 - 8 October and is a promotional campaign by BackCare, the charity for healthier backs.

St Judes Clinic in Leighton Buzzard, will be holding a free advice morning on Wednesday 5 October from 9.30 am – 1 pm. Practice Principal and Senior Physiotherapist, Moira D’Arcy, will be offering free 10 minute advice chats, both in person and on the telephone, to anyone wanting some helpful advice on the prevention and management of back and neck pain.

If you cannot attend on the 5th, you can call the clinic to arrange a more suitable time with one of their other experienced Chartered Physiotherapists.

In the meantime, there are ways we can help ourselves: • Think tall - you will naturally help yourself engage your core stability muscles that help protect your spine.

• At work - ensure your chair and desk height is right for you and that the screen height and tilt is correct.

• In the car - your seat should be in a fairly upright position with good low back support. Consider buying a low back cushion for support. Ensure the head rest is correctly positioned to support the back of your head.

• At home - look at the depth of your sofa. If it is too deep for the length of your thighs or too low for you, then your hips will be lower than your knees when you sit, causing you to flex in your lower back.

• Sleeping - mattresses should give you enough support for your curves whilst keeping your spine straight. A mattress that is too hard or too soft is equally as bad.

Perfect warming dish now the nights are drawing in...

Hearty Beef Stew Serves 4 people Ingredients 800g Stewing Steak 2 large onions 4 cloves of garlic crushed 3 large carrots diced 2 sticks of celery 1 medium turnip/swede/celeriac 1 big bunch of parsley leaves Bouquet garni 1 beef stock cube 1/2 bottle full-bodied red wine 2 tablespoons of tomato puree Sea salt and pepper to taste A tablespoon of wholegrain mustard to give an extra depth to the flavour Method • Start by seasoning the meat with a quality sea salt and black pepper (a dusting of flour if browning the meat).

• Heat a little butter in a casserole pan and gently fry the garlic, onions and the celery for 5 minutes.

• Stir in the tomato puree and fry for another minute or so before adding the meat.

• Pour over the best part of a bottle of good, full-bodied wine... indulgent but worth it. Save a small glass for the chef!

• Throw in the bouquet garni and stock cube • Bring back to the boil and give the pan a good scrape with a wooden spoon to release the caramelised juice from the bottom of the pan - this is where the flavour is.

• Now add your chopped carrots and swede/celeriac/turnip (people always mistake these for potatoes when it's served).

• Add a little water if necessary, you want everything just covered with water.

• Pop the lid on and put in the oven for 3-4 hours on approximately 140C • Serve with mash or crusty bread

Laurens Play Dough Recipe (Aged 1 ½) Ingredients: • 1 cup salt • 3 cups plain flour • 60ml (1 tbsp) vegetable oil • food colouring • 250ml (1 cup) water

Method: • Mix all the dry ingredients and add oil.

• Add the food colouring to water.

• Slowly add the water until the desired consistency is reached.

• Kneading will help to improve the texture, so let your kids get into it!

New housing grants help residents remain in their own homes Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) have introduced new housing grants for residents who need assistance to make improvements to their homes.

The grants provide support to disabled people, older people and vulnerable households.

The new grants aim to improve the quality of private sector housing in the Vale, improve the health and wellbeing of people living in run down homes and to enable disabled people to live independent healthy lives for longer. The grants are funded by AVDC and the Better Care Fund (via Central Government).

The grants aimed at disabled people include a Relocation Grant of up to £20,000 to help a person to move to a more suitable home and a Hospital Discharge grant of up to £10,000 to provide stair-lifts and ramps to allow a person to leave hospital. An Essential Repairs Grant of up to £10,000 has also been introduced, which can be used to make a home safe, warm and watertight.

By enabling people to remain independent in their own homes for longer, the grants contribute to wider public financial savings by delaying or preventing admissions into residential and health care, as well as benefitting the individual themselves.

Cllr. Sir Beville Stanier, Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste said: “Poor quality or unsuitable housing has a serious impact on health and well-being. The Council have provided Disabled Facilities Grants for some years, but the introduction of these new grants means we can offer residents in the Vale a wider range of support to make improvements to their homes.”

Cllr. Angela Macpherson, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Communities and Civic Amenities added: “It’s imperative that we support those living in vulnerable situations throughout the Vale. I’m delighted that these grants have been put in place, giving our residents a better and more comfortable lifestyle in their own homes.”

he sleepy little village of Cublington surrounded by gentle hills and leafy lanes seemed an unlikely place for an adventure. As the echo of the dawn chorus died down, the morning light stroked the hedges and glittered on the dew soaked leaves. The air smelt sweet with the heady perfume of honeysuckle which buzzed with the first lazy bees. The BFG made his way up Stewkley Road and glanced sideways viewing the carpet of lush green grass that covered the Orchard Ground.

He slowly turned into Cublington High Street and gently made his way towards an Inn of local repute....the Unicorn....

walked across the 'yard', nothing as grand as a car park - 1954, What memories and tales of revelry abound. A finishing point, a marathon sprint to advertise our fight against a 3rd

London Airport (W.A.R.A.) 1971 and late summer - a thanksgiving at St Nicholas followed by a huge joyous crowd in the "Yard" when the "Great Bacchus" took it's toll. June 1980 commemorating the 35 years since the cessation of WW2. The village brought chairs and tables to picnic along the High Street, in the Yard stood a forlorn group of 'smalls" clutching their 'Cuddles', battered suitcases - evacuees, Morris dancers then enter the 18th Century hostelry and there you meet characters stepping out of the pages of Dickensonian era. Edward Brazier aka "Acky" , cap on head, first of a few pints in hand, a mind as sharp as a needle, always managed to have the last word. Arthur Biggs, farmer, wore gaiters, and a jacket which had seen many winters, a cap, a pipe, Chairman of the Parish Council for 60 years, never adapted to series 2 Communion service, new fangled ideas. Gramp Read, Dairy Farm a twinkle in his eye, saw the humorous side of life through the good and bad times of a life in farming. Desmond Fennel QC, presenting the fight for WARA.(Wing Airport Resistance Association), Bill Manning (West park) unforgettable characters lost in the mists of time. I first entered the Unicorn in May 1954, conversation halted. Was I from Mars? Smokey nicotine ceiling, huge oak settles and winged chairs, beer from the cellar. No haute cuisine, a bag of crisps with a blue packet of salt. A unique and unforgettable place through the centuries with friendships old and new.

The season ends and the cricket ground gets put

to bed to mark another year for Cublington Cricket Club.

The highlights for the season have made us very proud indeed. Our 1st and 2nd team maintained their position in their respective Cherwell League divisions. Our Sunday side is a great credit to the Club, well done Tom Gadsby, Will Rodnight and Paul China, Cathy Rodnight (Ladies Captain) - the senior captains and all their players. But our under 11 side are the best in Buckinghamshire - they won the BCB Division 1 North, the Bucks County title and the Alyesbury Vale District League! In fact, junior membership has increased 100% during the season and now stands at 85 boys under 17 years of age and 10 girls - most of these new members are under 11 years of age and has largely been through our engagement with local schools and word of mouth. Well done Gordon Sparke and all the great volunteer coaches and team managers.

A highlight was a Cublington junior side playing the touring Zimbabwe Academy in August - the Cublington team losing by the narrowest of margins (4 runs). That is not all - Cublington have a record 35 players in the Bucks County Winter training programme - including nine girls.

Our Ladies and Girls squad - kicked of this season has been a great source of pride to us all and reinforces our credentials as an inclusive, family centred club for all to enjoy sport and fun together.

We have new Nets installed - we have a new astro surface pitch on the ground and we have had several superb social and fun events. The Six a side tournament at the August bank holiday (organised by Ollie Fairhurst, Ben Orchard and Kit Gordon Stuart - all 1st team players) was a party of cricket - tots to old codgers playing cricket all day, BBQ and drinks - a great family day for all.

The Zimbabwe U13 Cricket Academy touring side played Cublington U13 in July at Orchard Ground.

Well done to all our juniors, their parents, coaches, the Cublington Club officers (Steve George, Tom Gadsby, Chris Scott, Gordon Sparke, Debbie Knights and our Welfare officer Michele Nicholas), our ground consultant John Gordon, Niall Mckay (our Fixtures geek), James Inglis (our webmaster), the Cublington Parocial Council tea rota managed by Gina Reilly and Sally Missen, and all the tea ladies , Gary Brazier (our creative/design guru), our scorers (take a bow Jane Alexander and Harriet Knights), our semi invalided Umpire (Steve Mackie et al), the superb Orchard Ground Committee under John Law and now Duncan Mack's chairmanship and MANY MANY MORE volunteers who shape and energise the Cublington Cricket Club. Finally, thankyou to all Cublington residents for your support, and the Unicorn for being our "bar" and preferred meeting venue. A lot of parts making up a great family centred cricket club.

That after the superb Bollywood Ball in July where vital funds were raised for the Penny Brohn Cancer Care charity in collaboration with Cublington Cricket Club.

During his term as a councillor he headed up the Group of councillors who prepared the Village Plan. He was also Chairman of the North Field Steering Committee. He was always contributing to the day to day running of the Parish Council.

I am sure on behalf of the Parish Council and the village we thank him for all his time and effort given towards the village.

The meeting agreed to advertise for two Councillor vacancies with a postal leaflet drop, a poster on the village and pub notice boards.

Netta Glover’s report Aylesbury Vale District Council has given the go ahead for a draft Vale of Aylesbury Local Plan to go out to public consultation AVDC is asking anyone with an interest in the future of the Vale, including local residents, businesses and community groups, to speak up on the future of housing, jobs and key policies as the consultation on a draft VALP gets underway. Interested parties can comment on any aspect of the plan such as the potential locations for new homes and jobs.

A series of public exhibitions are being held across the district where planning officers will be available to explain the content of the draft plan and answer any questions. This is an opportunity for local people to give further input to the Local Plan The VALP is still a work in progress with a further six months’ work to come. So residents are urged to take this opportunity to get involved and let us know their comments so that these can be taken into account when towards the end of this year the Local Plan is finalised. Neighbourhood plans 1.25 When a town or parish neighbourhood plan is ‘made’, or put into effect, it becomes part of the overarching development plan, which is the basis for planning decisions. Neighbourhood plans have to take account of the strategic elements of the relevant local plan, but apart from that they can determine how development will take place in their area. The expectation was that they would be created where a local plan was already in place but that is not the case in many places including Aylesbury Vale district. As a result the neighbourhood plans which have been made have not been based on this draft local plan or the associated settlement hierarchy.

This has always been pointed out to those town and parish councils preparing neighbourhood plans with the warning that housing numbers would probably need to be raised to meet overall housing need in the district. , the council will work with town and parish councils to identify sites which can be allocated through revisions to their neighbourhood plans. The council will work to identify sites it can keep in reserve in such locations, so the supply which the local plan has to identify, is set out in the plan. These will only be activated if a neighbourhood plan revision has not passed pre-submission consultation within 12 months of the local plan being adopted, which is when neighbourhood plans gain enough weight or status to be considered in planning decisions.

Note from me: I think it would be really worth while logging on to the website. Scroll forward 31 minutes to listen to Keith Holland – was a director at the planning inspectorate and really knows what he is talking about. Basically his view is that we have a much stronger case than we did when our previous plan failed. The main reason the inspectorate failed the first plan was because of a failure to co-operate with adjoining authorities on the prospect of us taking their unmet need. In my view this is not strictly fair because the adjoining authorities were not co-operating. Another reason was that we did not put in enough numbers.

If we don’t have plans in place by early next year the government will appoint somebody else to do it. No doubt the local tax payer will have to pick up the bill. For another thing who is going to be available to do it?

The council will investigate state of lease and whether the council are responsible for the fees of the vendor 6.3 Budget Template Page 3of5 Cllr Bush circulated the budget template which will be used to form a budget strategy for the council. The budget showed a 3% increase on ongoing costs and year on year increase of £500, leaving a surplus of £1900.

Community Speed Watch Plan 7.1 6 volunteers had signed up be part of the Speed Watch Plan.

Sites have been assessed and reviewed by Thames Valley Police.

There is access to equipment and the insurance will cover the Public Liability coverage needed.

Training for the volunteers will happen in August.

Speed Watch at the below sites will begin in September, rather than over the holidays when there is less traffic.

Speed Watch sites are: 1. Aston Abbotts to Cublington – letter to The Walnuts will be sent asking if the Speed Watch volunteers can setup in the entrance of their home.

2. Whitchurch to Cublington 3. Wing to Cublington 4. Stewkley to Cublignton

7.2 White Village Gates Quotes for white village gates were presented from a reputable and reliable company called Glasdon. The company Glasdon will be visiting the village in July for a site visit.

They have suggested gates to be 2metre wide and 3metres above ground.

Supply and fit needs to be done by Transport for Bucks (TfB).

The gates will be a staged implementation due to budget constraints and dependent on final quotations.

Agreed that a more concise estimate will be given by September meeting.

The meeting agreed to put a message in the Cublignton Crier on the Council’s plans for the white gates.

7.3 Portable Speed Activated Signs Further quotes for portable vehicle activated signs would be presented at the next meeting.

7.4 Village Walk Round Matthew Wincup from Transport for Bucks will be conducting a resurfacing survey in July and has been advising the Council regarding the village gates.

Village Matters 8.1 New Bins Further quotes are needed from Bucks County Council for new bins and costs for collection. x4 locations were agreed for the new bins: Silver Street near Play Area, The Crossroads (replacement), free standing bin by Orchard Ground Gate, next to phone and noticeboard.

8.2 Quotes for new bench, pruning cherry trees Cherry Tree pruning at the Crossroads £200.

Quote for an 8metre teak wood bench £159.

Locations for two new benches are The Crossroads and by the Pond.

8.3 Weeding around pond and spraying of weeds is completed. Agreed to put small bail of barley straw in the pond to try and eliminate the algae.

The meeting agreed that a letter of thanks will be sent to the Fete Committee for their kind donation of £300 to the Parish Council for village gates.

Play Area Inspection Following the Play Area inspection, the meeting agreed that external work which was clarified as medium risk in the inspection report, would be resolved.

This includes: • Maintenance on gate so gate swings closed • To replace concrete fence post on entrance • To cut back over-hanging trees Cllr Vale presented costs for the above work which the meeting agreed.

4 Reports: Police, County & District Councillor Police Report via email, Paula Boston Level of crime has been low in Cublington so far this year Since January this year there have been 4 reported crimes – 3 burglaries other than a dwelling and one theft of oil.

During this year there have been 12 telephone calls to the non-emergency number reporting such issues as: dangerous driving, suspicious persons, neighbours ASB, parking obstruction etc.

District Councillor, Netta Glover’s report: School Places: Improved web service will help families apply for a school place first port of call for everyone applying for a school place. A spectacular one was where somebody had abandoned a trailer in a layby which was full of waste he was fined £2250 and the company was ordered pay compensation for the safe removal and disposal of the waste of £16,962 plus prosecution costs in the sum of nearly £1000 so this particular man had to pay a total of £20,284.

Councils forced to cut housing, cultural and transport budgets, new analysis finds Press Association has used new government data to compare the change in council day-to-day expenditure across the decade. Its analysis found that in almost every area the amount of spending has dropped. Cuts averaging 29 per cent have been made by local authorities to budgets for cultural services and there has been a similar-sized fall in spending on transport services, which covers the upkeep of local roads as well as street lighting and concessionary travel fares. Funding for children and families' social care has gone up by around 16 per cent, while the overall level of funding for social care has stayed broadly unchanged. Cllr Claire Kober, Chair of the LGA's Resources Board, said: "Councils have increasingly had to do more with less in recent years while trying to protect services, such as caring for the elderly, protecting children and reducing homelessness, in the face of growing demand. Inevitably it has meant having less to spend on many of the other services people value, such as filling potholes and funding leisure facilities like pools, gyms, parks and museums. The next few years will continue to be a challenge and more difficult decisions will still have to be made. All councils will have to find further substantial savings from local services to plug funding gaps over the next four years and compensate for the rising cost pressures they face."

New housing grants help residents remain in their own homes Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) have introduced new housing grants for residents who need assistance to make improvements to their homes. The grants provide support to disabled people, older people and vulnerable households. The new grants aim to improve the quality of private sector housing in the Vale, improve the health and wellbeing of people living in run down homes and to enable disabled people to live independent healthy lives for longer. The grants are funded by AVDC and the Better Care Fund (via Central Government).

All agreed to use the two slat gate, as per quote and implement Wing Road and Aston Abbotts approaches as phase 1. The Whitchurch Road and Stewkley Road s approaches will be phase 2 as funds become available. All acknowledged the current cost estimate of phase 1 is £2.0k and that budget expectations show that current year expenditure will need to be funded by £1.2k from prior year reserves.

Cllr Reilly has applied for LAF funding. The outcome of the application by TfB will not be made until March 2017 All agreed to have the Whitchurch road gate 1.8metres.

This project is subject to final cost presented by TfB on installation 8.6 New Bench Cllr Reilly presented costs of £159 for a new bench. This will be added to the budget template.

Streamlining Local Government Meeting Questions will be put together individually for the meeting in November North Field Project Two meetings have taken place and a Facebook page set up for the project, which now has 37 likes.

Cllr Reilly asked the Council to look at the Facebook page.

There are plans for a tree planting project, where villagers will be encouraged to plant their own tree which can then be planted in the north field in the future.

Charity Walk and Pop Up Cafe for Cancer research Signed and approved by The Chairman, Cllr Vale……………………………………………………………………………..

On 10th September the Cublington All-comers team tackled the Thames Path Challenge, a 50km walk along the River Thames from Runnymede to Henley. We started at 9am, and with three stops for food, rest and footcare along the way, finished at 8.30pm...in the dark! The weather had been horrid, heavy rain for quite a large part of the day, all adding to the challenge, but not fun. We lost one team member at 28km, when Jennie Chappell's knee gave cause for concern, and nearly another at 45km, but team strength came in to play and the remaining four limped over the finish line, to a very welcome glass of prosecco. Thanks to our 'crew' of Steve G, Richard C and Mike A! We were walking, to raise funds for Cancer Research, and as part of this, we held Cublington's first Pop-up Afternoon Cream Tea Room, at the Pavilion, on 18th September. About 60 people joined us for tea, scones, jam, cream and cakes. It was a very relaxed event, with pots of tea and ad-lib calories and generous donations added £440 to our total of £1300. Thank you to all who came, all who made cakes, and all who supported us before and on the day.

St.Nicholas Church

A great night was had on Saturday, when the church became a beautiful setting for a performance of songs from musicals.

Singer Emily Haigh, pianist Hannah Jovic, Rosie Houlton and Dr Olga Thomas_Bosovskaya entertained a packed church.

Cerus and Margaret Jarvis from Woodland Flowers provided spectacular candlelit display to really set the scene with top hats canes and flowers.

Emily also performed lullabies for Prince William and Princess Charlotte with the original composer Olga.

Alongside these professional singers was Chloe Wilson. At just 13 years old she delivered a great performance and showed that Cublington really does have talent!

The raffle, refreshments and ticket sales have raised over ÂŁ400 for the church.

These events are always team work. Thanks to the Unicorn for supporting the event and refreshments and all the helpers on the night. It was great to see that now all the hard work has been put into the fabric of the church it was a very welcoming place for all ages to come together.
