76 years ago this month.... Operation Exodus was in full swing... repatriating POWs after the war. See articles inside.

“I’ve been trying to live my life so that in the hour of my death I would rather feel joy, than fear.” These are the last words of the hero of mine, WW2 Polish Army Officer Witold Pilecki who volunteered to get inside Auschwitz Camp to gather intelligence about the first German “death factory”. In order to achieve that, he allowed Germans to capture him during one of the mass streets round-ups. Germans regularly used that method to terrorize Poles and sent all victims to the camps. After sending the reports about the German atrocities at the camp to the Allies and realising that it felt on the deaf ears (no one at the time could quite believe that such things are even possible) he escaped and later took part in Warsaw Uprising. Finally, after the war he came back to Poland from safewestern Europe to organise the resistance about the communist government. He was then captured by the secret police tortured and murdered, his grave never found. It seems like a very fitting time to mention Witold Pilecki while we celebrate the history of the brave men and women who gave so much serving at the local airfield during WW2. Many of them nameless heroes with their stories never told. It is also important to celebrate them even more these days when young generation is fed by the media with 24/7 live broadcast of so called “celebrities” lifestyle. In the best-case scenario young Ben and Angela will learn that the real hero wears a cape and the mask and of course poses superpowers. Sadly, brave soldiers dying for their country in Afghanistan or Iraq, exhausted nurses and doctors in the hospital, police officers killed on duty and other every day heroes will not end up with a Hollywood blockbuster. Today’s world might not change because of this short editorial, but I know very well what story I will tell my little nephew first when he comes and ask if we can watch the latest Avengers movie.

With the great news that the vaccination programme is working and rolling out ever faster, it won’t be long before all the over 50’s have been jabbed and the lockdown can gradually be eased even further. We will soon be able to socialise in bigger groups again in gardens and meet up in the pub for a drink. Great news! News also of some dates for the diary! Finally we can start to make plans!

Thanks once again

Cublington Crier

Keeping you up to date on village life, news and events since 1984

The monthly magazine of the Buckinghamshire village of Cublington - the village that moved.

Need anything? Shopping? Collecting medicines? Help is at hand. The village support network is still going strong and if anyone needs any help of whatever, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will keep going until it is safe to stop. The mass vaccination programme is ramping up and everyday new record numbers are being vaccinated. The Government achieved their target of vaccinating over 15 million older and more vunerable people by the middle of February. News is that the next five tiers are being got through at a pace. Boris has finally announced the pathway out of lockdown and whilst we all want it to be over more quickly, as I’m writing this, there’s only 118 more days till we can fully get back to normal. Can we remind you to keep looking at the www.cublington.com website for up to date information about Covid and other items of general interest from Bucks Council and the Parish Council. In these strange times, we urge you to please use the Crier as a forum, interact with it. Write a letter to someone or everyone, write a poem or an article. We love getting your spotteds, your letters, photos, articles and ideas, so please keep them coming. We are particularly in need of WHO AM I? volunteers. It’s simple and just a bit of fun.

Stay Alert. Stay safe. Most of all, use your common sense! If you are willing to help with the Crier in any way... whether it be delivering, writing the odd letter, or sending an article you think might be of interest or any sort of regular contributions like Who Am I? Please do it as The Crier only survives with content. The editororial team really can't be expected to do everything every month. The guest editor list is now being compiled 2022. Yes! We really do plan that far ahead! If asked, please do your bit for the community and join in... it’s actually a bit of fun!

The Crier and the Wing Aircrew Memorial Fund

The Cublington Crier has donated £200 on the village’s behalf to the Wing RAF Aircrew Memorial Fund which was being crowd funded recently. It is hoped (lockdown permitting) that a permanent memorial to all the aircrew lost over the years will be unveiled on the airfield towards the end of May. More details as we get them.

A number of articles regarding the Wing Airfield history will continue to appear in the next few editions of the Cublington Crier. Our thanks to Nick Ellins of the Memorial Fund for providing these,

and to Graham Banfield for further research about the airfield. Any questions please ask me and I’ll try and point you in the right direction to the right peson. Ed

Sadly there is no Who Am I? this month as we have no one left. NEW contributors needed.

If you have been asked to complete one and haven’t yet responded, PLEASE do so now. You certainly now have had the time to think about your answers! Just email me your responses and I’ll do the rest. Simple.

Thank you.

Disgraceful & thoughtless! The turn out and support for the Cublington Village Clean up on Saturday morning was yet another demonstration of how wonderful the people of Cublington are. 30 bags of rubbish, tyres, a sewing machine, the list goes on! An outstanding effort by all, and for a short while the approaches to the village were pristine. However, come Sunday morning there were larger cans on the Aston Abbott's road. A slap in the face for those who had worked so hard the day before. A thoughtless act by a passing motorist. Come Tuesday morning the Wing Road had become the site of a wanton act of vandalism. Blatant, calculated fly tipping. The whole of the contents of someone's front room, TV included, strewn along the verge just past the entrance to Lockhart's Farm. With this level of pollution our local Council should take responsibility for an urgent clear up. If it is left it advertises to other vandals that they can treat our countryside as a free disposal site. With local elections on the horizon could we all please lobby our representatives to act on our behalf and ensure that there is a prompt response by the Council to address such incidents. The Vales on farming in the Vale #6 March/April The weather held at the beginning of March and we managed to apply the first nitrogen plus sulphur application to the Winter Wheat and Barley. As I write this on the 19th March I have just been applying the second application to the Winter Oilseed Rape. The Oilseed Rape not in Cublington Parish is growing well. The Oilseed rape in Cublington Parish is still hanging on. The seed representative spoke to the plant breeder who thinks the plants will survive the Cabbage Stem Beetle larvae damage. After walking it all yesterday and discussing it with the agronomist I put on a half rate application of nitrogen plus sulphur to 3⁄4 of the fields. The remaining 1⁄4 we will replant with Spring Oats. I was hoping we would start drilling Spring Oats tomorrow but overnight rain has delayed that so hopefully we will start in the next few days and be finished by the time you read this. We have several seed planting drills we have accumulated over the years on our farm. The seed planting drill I use in the wet conditions we have experienced the last two autumns has a metering system which is powered by mechanical drive of one of the flotation wheels. This has several drawbacks as the mud sticks to the tyre it alters the diameter of the wheel and affects the rate. It is also prone to the tyre stopping as the mud sticks between the tyre and the scraper fitted to remove the mud. When it stops it is not applying any seed. I am as time allows converting the drive to an electric motor. As part of this I needed an adaptor turning to mount the encoder (sensor for measuring revolutions). I would like to say a big thank you to Graham Dunn for making me the adaptor on his lathe. I helped out on the livestock farm I have mentioned before last week to carry out their Bovine Tuberculosis Test. The parish of Cublington is in an annual test zone for Bovine Tuberculosis Testing. The frequency of testing varies across the country determined by the risk level of there being Bovine Tuberculosis present. Before we carried out the test the farmer, and ourselves as well, had a letter to inform us that radial testing needs to be carried out. This means that somewhere within 3km of our farm a case of Bovine Tuberculosis had been found and that a whole herd test would be required immanently with a follow-up test 6 months later. The test carried out is called The Single Intradermal Comparative Cervical Tuberculin (SICCT) test commonly referred to as the skin test. It is carried out by injecting the animal in the neck and then observing the injected area 4 days later to see if the animal has reacted to the test and a lump has formed. Unfortunately we had a reactor which means the animal is very likely to have bovine tuberculosis. It has to be isolated and then killed. The whole herd will be tested again in 60 days. The farm cannot sell any animals except to slaughter with a licence until it passes two whole herd tests in a row.

We have had confirmation that the precast concrete panels for the new grain silo have been poured and hopefully they will be delivered next week. Dad has been very busy levelling the stone and applying a chalk blind ready for concreting the floor. We need to cut the side sheeting on the pre-existing building side to allow us to fit the panels and once this is done we will fit the bottom panels and pour the concrete floor. The remaining panels we will fit after the concrete has hardened.

Orchard Ground & North Field Latest news...

•T he planning application for North Field The planning application for a change of use for North Field was submitted back in June 2020 in the name of the parish council. As I write this article for The Crier, there has been no decision from Buckinghamshire Planning Dept. The current use is for arable farmland. For North Field to be used for community woodland, a community orchard, and meadow areas; soft footpaths to be added along with picnic and play areas including an outdoor gym, then a change of use is required for amenity use. The restructuring of Buckinghamshire Council along with issues around covid and planning officers leaving the employ of the Council have not helped matters. Pippa Cheetham, Planning Consultant who lives in the village has been chasing for a decision and matters have recently been escalated to the Buckinghamshire Council, Director of Planning. We are very grateful for the work and effort that Pippa has undertaken for this planning application and the necessary preparatory work, which has been without charge for her time. As a consequence of the delay in planning, the community orchard will not now be planted out until October/ November. It is still possible to plant trees at other times, but carrying buckets of water for the forty fruit trees is not really practical although a number of people have kindly offered their help to plant trees and then care for the community orchard. Thankfully, the grant of £2,500 from the Heart of Bucks Community Foundation - Green Communities Fund is available to Orchard Ground until the end of November 2021. This was a matched funded grant and the generosity of village residents raised £1,400 towards the community orchard and community woodland. Cublington Parish Council have started the work for a lease for Orchard Ground and North Field to be given to Orchard Ground Association, this will be for a period of 99 years at a peppercorn rent. Work has also been undertaken to explore charitable status to be known as Cublington Orchard Ground Association. This will help to secure these two parcels of land for the benefit of the local community and hopefully open up grant funding from the national lottery and charitable foundations. Hopefully there will be a positive planning decision soon. If you would like to be added to the list of people who wish to become involved in the North Field initiative or the proposed charity, please contact Martyn Waters: M 07973754356, martyn.waters@icloud.com As this lockdown ends and the nights draw out, it would be good to have walk around North Field to remind ourselves about the plans for this community initiative. Further details in the next edition of the Crier. •1 00 Club 2021/22: a new round of draws start in May. OG sellers will again be asking you to support the village amenity that is Orchard Ground. Village Litter Pick... thank you all!!

A small army of volunteer villagers ventured out on Saturday 20th March on the annual litter pick and tidy up. Several people could not be there on the morning and so had picked earlier in the week. We of course, had thought the roads had been so much quieter during lockdown - but it appears not! Isn't it amazing how inconsiderate people are. In all we picked up in excess of 30 bags of rubbish! Items collected included, several tyres, a settee, empty petrol cans, a sewing machine, soiled nappies, about 15 cricket balls in the hedge (just lost - not dumped), two catheter bags and a colostomy bag! Can you believe it!, as I write this someone has reported a new fly tipping down the Wing Road, piles of rubbish/furniture dumped and so it goes on. Please keep your eyes peeled and anything seen please take a number/ photo if you can and report it! Maggie and Chris Brandon, Roger Hitchcock, Dennis Allen, Martyn Waters, Penny Allen, A very (l-r) Bob Paine, Liz Smith, Jenny and Andrew Brown, The Keane family, Ev and Gerry Griffiths, Di big (postie)Edgeley and daughter Elizabeth (who don't even live in the village!), Helen White, k n Morgan, Alison Head, Doug Merriman, Erin Taylor, Jane & Michael Alexander, Di a Th ... Simon Grace, Michael Reilly, Tim, Sue & James Taylor, Ryan Bullock, Lucy and Andy Peck, and Gary o t u o for organising. y For vounteering but not required this time: Mike & Sandie Joy, Chris & Kevin Shultz, Gillian Antosiewicz & Gill

On hearing news of our efforts on reader wrote in... Thank you Gary, wow what an example of extremes, the wonderful spirit and teamwork of the litter packers against the lazy thoughtless and selfish individuals who seem to be on the increase, the tip charges and selectivity don’t help either. Well done everyone. The Joys What a great turn out and it is amazing what rubbish you find….. Also a big thank you to the youngsters, Michael for his endless trailer runs and my wife Sue (with her hawthorn battle scars on her hands) for helping clear the Stewkley Road ditch. Tim Taylor Many thanks for all of your team’s hard work. It looks great. What a great village we live in with all the people that really do care about it. Bob

From the Reverend

“We know the price of everything and the value of nothing”. I was reminded of that phrase by an advert in a recent edition of Classic Car Weekly for a 1978 Daimler Sovereign. The car is immaculate, but then it should be because in forty three years, the Daimler has covered only 400 miles. The seller is asking £42,000. The car raises a very interesting question about the relationship between value, price and worth. The value of a late seventies Daimler in excellent condition is significant, but the price of this one is significantly higher than usual because of its mileage. But the worth? Such a low mileage means that to use the car would mean major recommissioning, but then would you want to use it and increase the mileage? But if the car remains unused, what’s the point of having it? Some (many?) would say that the car is not worth having. The relationship between value, price and worth is something we live with daily and we apply it to everything we do, sometimes even towards other people. And our selective valuing can be conscious or not. Day by day for us all therefore, thinking about how we view others and how we judge accordingly is an important exercise. The Gospel of Christ meets head on the question of value, price and worth. All are valuable as created beings in the sight of God; all are worth the effort of relationship with Christ and Christ paid the ultimate price to demonstrate this. Throughout the Easter story, Christ neither remonstrates with nor avoids the accusations or ridicule from others; he simply allows their (our?) values to play out and thus be seen for what they are. At Easter we are confronted by Christ’s valuing of us all; for Christ rose again and every Primary school child I have ever asked knows Jesus did not rise again to “zap” those who nailed him up. Jesus’ absolute valuing of us all is amply shown by the invitation to follow him in his risen life because we are worth it. Easter chocolate is yummy and Easter bunnies are cute, but neither help with the question “how much am I worth?”. The Gospel of Christ replies You are worth everything. With every blessing, Rev’d Howard Robson.

SPOTTED!

PLEASE keep your eyes peeled ... If you spot

anything, and we really do mean anything of interest (silly or serious or even just slightly interesting) in the village - please let us know.

Spotted - A new floating Duck House!! Looking very grand and hoping for new occupants in the near future.

Well done Kerry and Dominic. A big thank you to Carolyn and Gerry for donating the materials and Kerry for putting it all together.

Spotted -or heard

The different sounds made as the binmen empty the recycling bins into the refuse lorry, depending on which house’s bin is being emptied, around Reads Lane!!

Spotted -or not heard

I am informed by Ecom workers that the two noisy concrete crushers at the waste transfer site were removed a couple of days ago on two huge lorries. Victory for the protests and peace and quiet at last!

Spotted -and or not heard

The three generators used to power the village for two or so weeks finally removed! Peace and quiet at last!

Spotted - also a huge thank you to

Dominic Posenansky for clearing the High Street footpath... several readers wrote in. Your work is noticed.

Spotted - work started on clearing the site next to Bell Cottage. A new house on the High Street!

Spotted - work also started on clearing the site at Ridings Cottage. No planning application has been approved so we think it’s just to see the site more clearly.

Spotted - So - how many kind electrical

workmen does it take to change a lightbulb? Two apparently! The kind electricity workers offered to help with their giant ladder.

Shameful!! -

How prophetic was Gary in his address to the litterpickers that sadly by tomorrow there will be more litter on the verges! Cleared a few days later thank goodness.

Spotted - Two new saplings planted at the crossroads to replace the ailing cherries - in memory of Daphne Roger

Spotted - How many of you have lockdown hair?!

The story telling tree Many communities have story telling trees where wise words are passed on to younger generations, where thoughts of the wise women and men of the village are sought before decisions were made, and where stories about the myths, legends and past glories are recounted and celebrated. Does Cublington have such a tree? In North Field down by the boggy area, now that the frosts have cleared the underlying vegetation, there stands a magnificent tree. Go and find it and stand a while and look, walk around it and look at its many twists and bends. The Woodland Trust website tells me that this tree might be 300 years old and historically its bark was used for medicinal purposes when boiled in water to relieve diarrhea, to relieve joint inflammation and the liquid used as a gargle for a sore throat. (The Crier does not recommend this.) The bark contains the compound salicin that was used as a forerunner to aspirin. From the pictures, is this mystical tree in North Field girded by a snake coiled around its twisted trunk? Has its bark taken on the texture of the leathery skin of the dinosaurs? Is this ancient tree part lizard, as it stands with its roots in the wet boggy soil reaching up to the sky? What birds, mammals and insects live in the many holes in the trunk and the branches, and in the cracks and cavities in the bark? Is it a woodpecker or a nuthatch, a small owl maybe, or a squirrel? What stories could this tree tell from its many passing seasons and years that it has stood here? What secrets does it know? I understand that this tree is a Goat Willow. These trees were often grown as fodder for winter feed when the supplies of grass hay were running low. Its wood is soft and yellow; the twigs are brittle and not suitable for weaving or for making the wattle frames that were used by past generations for house building. Willow trees are dioecious having both male and female flowers which appear as catkins before the leaves. I hope you will take a while to go to North Field and stand and look at this story telling tree. Martyn Waters

“We will remember them” The Cublington Crier has donated £200 on the village’s behalf to the Wing RAF Aircrew Memorial Fund

Wing Airfield Memorial Operation Exodus

One of the events that will be remembered through the creation of the Wing airfield memorial is Operation Exodus in April and May 1945. This was the code name given to a massive allied repatriation exercise near to the end of the Second World War. Around 354,000 allied men lay stranded in Europe, having been liberated from prisoner of war camps by the advancing British, Russian and American armies. Whilst the images and newsreels from the day showed smiling faces and spoke of their pluck, the reality was that many were sick, traumatised, starving, wounded, without clothes and infected with lice. RAF Wing was selected to become a major repatriation centre, with medical facilities all over the South of England made ready to take those with most severe physical and mental health conditions. The airfield personnel received eight hundred and nineteen war weary men on the very first day its work. Shortly after that, specially modified Lancaster bombers delivered 20 to 25 men at a time, and at the peak, 1750 ex prisoners of war arrived in a single day. The logistical and human effort was huge. On 15th May, the skies over Cublington, Soulbury, Wing, and Stewkley were filled with noise as well over five hundred Rolls Royce Merlin engines powered one hundred and thirty two Lancaster bombers to touch down. One witness from the day, said they were “coming in so fast, the runways were full.... landing before the one in front had got to the end of the runway.” One of the returning ex prisoners was Aircraftsman (First Class) Roy Clarke. He left England in February 1940

by Nick Ellins

to rejoin his squadron in France, after being awarded some home leave. He was shot down almost immediately and became a prisoner of war as the rest of the allied expeditionary force were pushed to the edge of defeat at Dunkirk. When he was finally liberated in 1945, he flew back to the green fields of our airfield of RAF Wing and walked in to the makeshift reception centre in the hanger. His notes recall, “We cadged lifts in returning supply trucks, spent a day or two at Nienburg and then on to the Rheine, the airfield a scene of utter destruction following allied air raids. But craters had been filled in and RAF Dakota aircraft were busy flying in and out. Prisoners (of war) were now arriving in large numbers and waiting to be taken home. I just missed the last aircraft leaving that day for England and was standing around looking at wrecked German aircraft in the shattered hangers.....when a Canadian pilot came over and asked me how long I had been a prisoner. On learning five years, he said “Heck, I guess you’d like to get back then”. If you don’t mind riding on crates I’m just leaving for Wing, one of the POW reception centres”. I wondered how I would feel about flying again; it was three weeks short of five years since I was last in an aircraft and from that occasion I still had the feel of cordite, spilling oil and glycol, smoke and fire in my nostrils. “We lifted into the air and the intervening years disappeared. The drill came back, wheels up, flaps up, change from fine pitch. I envisaged the wireless operator sending his messages and wondered whether the

procedures had changed very much. I lay back on my crate and looked at the roof and wondered whether the last five years had happened. My dirty Khaki battledress was enough to remind me it had. I looked down on the fields of England and soon we were landing at Wing. I called to the pilot “Thanks for the ride”. He laughed “Well don’t stay away so long next time”. I jumped from the aircraft. I was on English soil again. It was the 23rd of April 1945, just five years and two months, a fifth of my life, since I left England...I would be home for Christmas this year, the first for seven years.” For others, their return was also joyful but the method of arrival more dramatic.

Here are basic details: Involving local people in the planning process. The purpose of a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) is to explain how we will involve local communities at each stage of the planning process. Creating and publishing an SCI is a legal requirement for all planning authorities. Why do we need the SCI? We recognise that planning affects people’s daily lives, as the decisions we make shape the places we live and work in. As a result, we want to involve communities as early in the process as possible. The SCI is relevant to anyone who lives, works, or does business in Buckinghamshire. It sets out when, how, and for what reasons you can participate in planning processes or issues. It is divided into sections that include: Planning for the future of Buckinghamshire Neighbourhood planning Planning new development

Dealing with unauthorised development e-Scooters. You have probably noticed the yellow scooters in Aylesbury. These are being run as a trial by the council. There is a charge. Privately owned Scooters It is illegal to ride these on the open road. As e-scooters are classed as vehicles, the laws in place around cars also apply to electric scooters, so if you are caught committing the offence you could get a £300 fixed-penalty notice and six points on your driving licence. These laws are in place for both your safety, and the safety of other road users.” Information on the Buckinghamshire Electric Scooter Trial: Buckinghamshire Electric Scooter Trial | Buckinghamshire Council Zipp Mobility | Scheduling and Booking Website (simplybook.it) To find out more about the law on using escooters, go to the following web pages: www.thamesvalley.police.uk/policeforces/ thames-valleypolice/areas/advice/e-scooters-whatarethe-rules www.gov.uk/government/publications/poweredtransporters/information-sheet-guidance onpowered-transporters Blue badge. We take abuse of blue badge spaces very seriously. Bucks has successfully prosecuted the highest number of offenders in the South East. Fines can be as high as £1,000. It is usually members of the legal holder of the badge’s family who take advantage and of course people who say, “I will only be 10 minutes – what’s your problem”. Traffic regulation order: The current rules need tidying up postunification. There is a new mapping software to hold all the council’s legal orders which is available to everyone at www.buckinghamshiretraffweb.uk There is now one single point of contact for Members and residents. Traffic Regulation Orders are the legal mechanism that restrict people’s use of the highway – for example a speed limit, weight limit, one way system, parking bays, yellow lines and no right turn are all examples of something that

need a Traffic Regulation Order. Vaccination centres – Everyone is impressed with the way the centres are run. They are receiving nothing but praise. A phenomenal success. The NHS is responsible for organising most of things , but your council is working in partnership on finding locations. Under Department for Education (DfE) section 27 regulations schools are required to hold a public consultation if they wish to run their nursery provision under these regulations. The school is therefore consulting its parents, staff, nearby schools, child minders and the local community on the proposed change. The governing board will review the outcome of the consultation and if there is support for the proposal, they will then publish a statutory notice. This will enable people to comment on, support or object to the proposal. Previous forecasts were showing estimated deficits of approx. £1,500 which allowed for legal fees of £3,000 relating to granting Orchard Ground charity a lease, playground maintenance of £850 and North Field Planning costs of £1,500. These costs have been delayed and will be incurred in the 31st of March 2022 accounts. The accumulative surplus estimated at 31st March 2021 is £17,596 which is earmarked for traffic calming. 6. Orchard Ground Report/ Charity Status and North Field Donations of £250 and £50 were received from The Crier and C Toosey, respectively. A further grant of £2,096 for Business Rate Support was secured from Bucks Council concerning Covid 19 lock down 3. In view of this grant OG agreed no rents would be charged in the year to 31st October 2021 for Cublington groups that use the facilities.

The loss of rental income is £1,700. OG have appointed Parrott and Coales to deal with the lease with the Parish Council at an estimated fee of £1,500. There is a virtual bingo fun even being arranged for later in this month. North Field Planning Permission Pippa Cheetham set out the delays from the planning office dealing with our application to change the use of agricultural to amenity. The application was made in June 2020 and the case officer agreed the matter in September. Unfortunately, the case officer left, and the replacement has failed to correspond with us. The local MP and Parish Liaison Officer had been contacted. The last resort would be a formal complaint. Cllr Cooper confirmed the planning department is being reorganised and more resource is being put into it. It was suggested and agreed that the quickest way to deal with the matter is for Cllr Cooper to contact the cabinet member responsible for planning . A quotation of £1,500 was rec’d from Parrott and Coales for the drafting of a lease. It was agreed to proceed with Parrott and Coales, and the Clerk was asked to contact the them. 7. Planning Permissions Agenda item 7.1 18/04085/APP Lakeside Business Units A new entrance has been proposed opposite the entrance to The Dene. A revised site plan had been submitted by the applicant which did not materially change the application. The applicant had carried out Structural Survey, Archaeological desk base assessment , and an assessment on processes and protocols as set out in District Licence. Heritage and Historic England had responded to these reports and confirmed they were still of the opinion that the application should be

refused. It was felt this application was likely to go to appeal. It was agreed Cllr Vale and Cllr Cooper would meet on site to discuss the application. 7.4 CM/0066/20 Planning Application made under Section 73 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to vary Condition 1 (Plans), Condition 2 (Operating Hours) and Condition 3 (Lorry Movements) of planning permission 08/20007/AWD at Lockharts Farm Recycling Facility, Wing Road, Cublington, LU6 0LB. The applicant had submitted an alteration to its application by adding amendments to conditions 4 (machinery) and condition 11 (lighting). A draft response from CPC was reviewed by the meeting and agreed to submitted to the planning officer. CPC is calling for the operator to submit a new application for planning rather than amendments to the existing planning permission. 7.5 21/00751/AGN – Land to the South of the Walnuts Aston Abbotts Road – open fronted general purpose agricultural barn – no objection. 10. A history of Cublington Lockdown Learnings

One of our lovely readers who wishes to remain anonymous, has undertaken to do some research on the Censuses currently published. A summary of extracts from 1939 –1911 & 1851 Census’s appear here prior to more detailed scrutiny of each Census released from 1841 (in this issue) and others to follow in later editions of The Crier. Some of the information is fascinating... did you know for instance that there was once a shop down Church Alley? ( So, is that Chapel Alley or Church Path?) If you live in one of the more historic buildings in the village, we hope you can trace previous inhabitants through these articles... we have highlighted well known village names and places of interest. We hope you will enjoy these, our lockdown learnings!

Martina collects my ironing every Tuesday and returns it on Thursday. Great job, never had any problems. Martina is always reliable, accommodating and cheerful. I am a ‘non-artist’, having been told that I was Not Artistic’ while at school. I concentrated on craft and photography and did not try again, until I broke my wrist three years ago. Unable to crochet one-handed and not able to ride, I took pencil and sketch book in one hand, and sharpened the pencil several times...Not confident, not happy with my ability but I did continue. The first part of Lockdown was busy in our household, but towards the end of summer, I felt ready to try something new. Bucks AE started online ‘Watercolour Painting’ in September 20 but sadly, after 3 weeks, the course was cancelled due to lack of pupils, but it did fire some enthusiasm for finding out more. After all, I had bought some paint and a few brushes by then! WEA provide some super online courses, and are available countrywide. I started ‘Art For The Terrified’ , a 10 week course, in January. Jeanette, our tutor, is taking us through a series of projects, using different media and techniques, very stimulating, friendly and supportive. I still feel that my drawing and sketching is dreadful, but perspective and colour are such fun. One thing has not changed, if you mix all of the colours together, you get Mud colour (quite useful, nonetheless) Check out WEA - There are a huge number of courses, on so many subjects, and costs are reasonable. Another way to ‘enjoy’ lockdown! Jane Alexander
