The Alliance of the European Union: What the Bible says about it.

By pastor Gary Boyd In the 90’s the nations of Europe formed an alliance for profit known as the European Union (EU). It is based on the earlier formations of the European Economic Community (EEC) established after World War 2. It created the single largest financial market in the world.

Many compared it to the old Roman Empire. This development marks an eerie connection with the fourth prophetic sign that reveals the future – the unification of the European nations.

The Rise of the New Roman Empire Scripture makes it clear that the old Roman Empire will ultimately give rise to a new Roman Empire at the end of days. In Daniel 9:26, the prophet Daniel is given a glimpse into the distant future. He says a time will come when the Messiah would appear, but he would then be cut off and killed. “The people of the prince that shall come (the Anti-Christ) shall destroy the city and the sanctuary (the temple),� and the end will come with a war of desolation.

He will sit in the rebuilt temple on David’s throne and declare himself to be the Messiah. This causes the abomination of desolation to occur.

Daniel 11:31 "And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual burnt-offering, and they shall set up the abomination that maketh desolate." In other words when the false Messiah sets on the throne in the temple he creates an abomination before God that causes the land and all around it to become desolate.

Spirit of God We know from history that Daniel was being told by the Spirit of God that the true Messiah would come and the temple would be rebuilt and it was in early A.D. All of those things have already transpired spoken of by Daniel.

Notice, however, the Romans who destroyed the city and the temple in 70 A.D. are the people from whom the prince (Anti-Christ) will come. So the end time world leader will come from the new Roman Empire – that will be European or the EU. Why Europe?

The Bible clearly identifies Europe as the final Gentile world power. Americans are quick to ask, where is the United States in Bible prophecy? The better question is, where is Europe in Bible prophecy?

America Did not Exist Of course you must realize that America did not exist when the Bible was written. That is why it does not clearly appear in scripture. You can only make a case of America in prophecy only by associating it with Europe.

As a nation of immigrants from Europe, the U. S. could possibly qualify among the “young lions� of Tarshish in

Ezekiel 38:13. America could also be included with general references to the revived Roman Empire.

Prophecy students realize it is pretty much a stretch to find America in biblical text. When the Bible talks about Babylon in prophecy I believe that is where America is.

That is a story for another day, however.
