sticks and mirrors The sticks and mirrors concept stems from an seasonal object presentation in Milan created by Garth Roberts for the concept space VERGER. The presentation previewed the extension of ideas from garth’s previous object interpretations that incorporated a custom colored mirror product developed by custom glass company in the Italian region of Tuscany. verger The VEGER concept space was born from an idea by Cristiano and Enrico Verger.

Children of Lucia Bosisio, founder and designer of Cristiano Fissore Cashmere, they made good use of their experience in the family business founded in 1998 Creal Srl, with the intention of launching, VERGER their collection of dresses and coats, knitwear.

From the researching of traditional handcrafts, to the development of new techniques, and finally working for artisans and designers from various fields, VERGER was directly involved the different production processes of the product they produced. Love and attention to detail made creations of VERGER unique.

As the company matured research remained the key word in the world VERGER, a feature that allowed them to build a creative venue, where ideas, projects and production come together in a multicultural environment; the VERGER concept space.

profile garthTM ’s explorations in mirror began in 2010 with the sponsorship of his Adhoc PopUp workshop at Syracuse University by the custom colored mirror supplier in Tuscany region of Italy. This philanthropic beginning, developed into a design collaboration when Garth Roberts was asked to develop the 2011 Christmas seasonal interior installation for the VERGER concept space.

Among the presented products were a series vases, and shelves which mate slate wood with decorative mirror. The items were displayed to create a context for the object that is some what unusual, yet at the same time expected and familiar. The items were highlighted with the various color effects which are the feature of the custom mirror.

For the interior installation component of the presentation garth™ developed a system of basic interior elements that acted as a visual prelude to the context of the project of the exterior and interior environment of VERGER. The elements also created a backdrop to the products being previewed.

The success of the installation resulted in the commercialisation of the collection of rustically inspired objects that used unique mirror to their strength. In this portion of the project the aim was to transform mirror into a decorative abstract elements of contemporary design. garth™ was lead in the development of preliminary branding and image of the product line. The role involved photographic, graphic, web art direction, as well as general creative direction of presentations and development of market entry strategy.

garth garth™ is headed by garth roberts. He founded the studio in 2009 after a series of pop-up studios project with Universities in Milan, Berlin and New York. Previously he worked in the studios of Jeffrey Bernett and Patricia Urquiola. Since summer 2007 he has been based in Berlin, Germany but continues working relations between Milan, Berlin and New York.

The studio works in different fields of product design and creative direction, developing solutions for a wide range of venues from high-end furniture to contemporary art.
