Between 1903 and 1904 West Ham added a Castle to their logo. The Castle represented local landmark Green Street House, known locally as "Boleyn Castle" it was believed King Henry VIII courted Anne Boleyn here. Other credits go to the players of Old Castle Swifts and West Ham's reserve side being Boleyn Castle FC in 1904. The Hammers relocated to the Boleyn stadium 1 Sep 1904.
During the late 1930’s it was obvious that a world war with Germany was on the cards. On 3rd September 1939 the Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain declared war on Nazi Germany following the German invasion of Poland.
1950s saw the arrival of West Ham’s new manager Ted Fenton, and in 1957/58 the fruits of his labour started to finally pay off. West Ham was promoted to the first division after some 26 years.
As a response many footballers signed up to fight in the war and teams were depleted. During 1939/1945 an attempt was made to fill the huge gap in English football, since the cancellation of The FA Cup which was substituted with ‘The Football League War Cup’. The winners of the first overall final in 19391940 was West Ham, Who beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 on 8th June 1940. The match was watched by over 42,000 fans at Wembley, who came out in their thousands, despite the fact that London was subject to bombing especially as Wembley was a potential target. In 1945 following the end of the Second World War, The Football League War Cup came to its end, being replaced by The FA Cup.

In 1994 Billy Bonds departed West Ham after 27 years service.
Harry Redknapp became Hammers new manager, with Frank Lampard as his assistant. Harry deserves great credit for leading his team to win the Inter-Toto cup In 1999, the same year as signing Paolo Di Canio the skillfull Italian foward.
