About Me
Throughout my life, I have had the privilege to be inspired by the wonders of the world. In my own life the ability to be creative has played a vital role in shaping who I am today. This has led me to the world of architecture. Architecture has the ability to be the past, present, and the future. For me architecture was the perfect choice. CREATIVITY UNIQUENESS

Washington D.C. Urban Plan
Project Type: Group
Professor: Thom Allen
Class: Arch 608
Fall 2022
The Washington DC Urban Plan is an affordable housing initiative designed to increase the amount of affordable housing within our site. In addition to affordable housing the goal of this project was to c reate an environment for the residents of the community to gather and use. One of my main focuses for this project was to create an environment composed of public and private spaces. To create these spaces a series of outdoor spaces that are located with in the boundaries of the building are integrated into the design. This allows the residents to have public spaces within a privatized space.

CONCEPT SKETCHES
The courtyard and bioswale designs are two of the concepts that were used to create private and public spaces.
The courtyard located on the 2nd level will act as a public space within the privacy of the apartments. With in the courtyard there will be privacy barriers for the 2nd level apartments. The barriers will consist of planters that will support bamboo stalks. There will be pergolas with seating and tables for outdoor events. Accompanying the pergolas there will be plants with plants such as crops, flowers, or herbs.
The bioswale will act as public space located west of the site. The café and art gallery will have patio space designated in the bioswale accompanied by a variety of plants.
03
Using the cut through our master plan that connects Howard University to the Park at Ledroit we developed the shapes that would become our sites.
EXTRACTION SUBTRACTION
With the desire to incorporate green spaces into the context of the building I created a series of courtyards. By doing so this creates a public environment within the boundaries of a public space.
SLICING INDENTION
Taking the Southwest face of the building and dividing it into balcony space for the 2nd and 3rd levels. This allows the residents to have their own private outdoor space that is complimented by a view of the strip below.
Taking portions of the strip to designate as bioswales so that excess water has a place to go. Also acting a visual and physical destination for the residents and guest.

Bio-Swale
Associated with the café this portion of the bioswale offers outside seating where guest have the opportunity enjoy the environment.
Associated with the gallery this portion of the bioswale offers a space where artist can go and express their artistic styles outside.
Overall design of the bioswale was to create a canopied system consisting of a variety of plants. The canopy consists of larger trees that act as the top of the canopy. The next plant would be a medium sized plant that could thrive under the shade of the larger tree. The ground level plants will also need to be shade tolerant but also water tolerant. The plants should also be stimulating to both sight and smell.

Spring 2022
Dirt Works Studio is partnering with The Good Work, whose mission is to provide dignified shelter to individuals or families experiencing domestic violence and to support them while they transition to more secure and peaceful lives.
Dirt Works Studio aims to provide a place of refuge while remaining connected to the fabric of the Strawberry Hill neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. The mutually reinforcing and complementary aspirations of The Good Work and the Solar Decathlon - advocating for the health of the planet and the health of the community - result in clear and potent design criteria. Drawing from the historic fabric of the neighborhood as well as archetypal ideas of home.
This project is a collaboration of the entire Dirt Works Studio not just one student.

KU Extension Center
Project Type: Individual
Professor: Hugo Sheward
Class: Arch 209 Spring 2021
The KU Extension Center is an integrative education building meant to connect the community of Downtown Lawrence Kansas with KU. The Center features classrooms, conference rooms, media room, and a coffee shop that includes a gift shop.
The Center is located on the Northeast corner at the intersection of Vermont and 9th St.While conducting the study of Massachusetts Street it became clear that the sense of community is vital part of the community. For this reason, the integration of designs within the Center are meant to encourage the sense of interaction.
``
Approach from Sidewalk
The environment of Massachusetts St can be determined by the usage, scale, perspective, and transit of the surrounding architecture. With this knowledge the boundary line of Massachusetts St could begin to be extended. It is through the connection of the important focal buildings that the site of the KU Extension Center was chosen.
Three panels designed to specifically to the program of the rooms within the structure.
1. Layout
Not wanting to overtake the existing park and canopy structures a L shape layout was applied to the North and East sections of the park.
2. Erecting
From the L shape layout, a structure was erected.
3. Angling
Using the established canopies, applying a slope to walls allowed for the structure to mimic the canopies.
29
Private Panel
4. Cutting Lines
Applying the canopies further into the structure, more lines inspired from the canopies were placed on the structure.
5. Subtracting
Changing the depth of the exterior walls allowed for the structure to achieve a new dimensional experience while clearly expressing where to enter.
6. Slicing
The final step was to slice the building along the North and South axis to continue the concept of the canopy structures.

The Light Box
Project Type: Individual
Professor: Alejandro Aptilon
Class: Arch 108
Fall 2019
The light box exercise was designed to understand the experience that light, and position can have. To start this exercise, we took inspiration from a proun designed by El Lissitzky. From the proun we created a structure we believed that would create a unique experience that would be altered by the light and position of the viewer.

Grasshopper Bike Stop
Project Type: Individual
Professor: Steve Harrington
Class: Arch 208
Fall 2020
The bike path located in the northern section of the wetlands. This area experiences very little to no shade but has a strong breeze that occurs along the path. Since the path is located on top of a hill that overlooks the wetlands I wanted my structure to extend into the wetlands allowing the user to fully experience the wetlands.
My concept is based on the idea of taking on the qualities of a grasshopper. There are three main elements I took from the grasshopper: wings, legs, and eyes.
Upper Floor Plan

Directly off the path is a public restroom followed by a station to lock up bikes and fill up deflated tires. Up a few steps is the first observation deck.

Lower Floor Plan
Down the main staircase is the lower observation deck. This is were the wetlands can be observerd at eye level.

Dimensions: 3 inch diameter, 3 inch depth
Goal: Create pot that would allow one to check to root system with little trauma caused to the plant.

4 celled seed starting pot.
Dimensions: 1 1/2 inch diameter, 1 3/4 inch depth
Goal: Create a set of cells that would allow one to pull out the ready seedling but leave the other cells undisturbed.

Craft Project Type: Personal Fall of 2022
Two types of joints have been been used to construct these picture frames. The first is a lap joint with a decorative piece of constrasting wood sandwiched which is secured by a doll rod. The second type is a miter joint having a splines on each corner to properly secure the connections

The large frame is constructed using oak wood. The smaller frames are constructed using walnut wood. The finish used is Howard’s Feed-NWax acting as a polish and conditioner.
