2D RAJASTHAN Elevation design for a rajasthani restaurant that required a new frontage while retaining the old structural system of the complex, thus concrete boards were used which gave way to the 2D design of the restaurant

Join two vertical and one horizontal half-cut bamboo sticks to create the door frame.

Dig 4 bamboo sticks into the ground (1’ depth) at intervals of 0.75’.

Weave bamboo slits between the sticks.

Repeat until all the sticks are covered.

Pass smaller slits through both vertical edges of the weave, at intervals of 6 slits.

Run two slits through the central cavity of the bamboo to act as support for weave.

WINDOW PANEL 2-3 Hours for 2 people

ROOF PANEL 10’

4 - 6 Hours for 2 people A single roof panel can shelter a 10’ x 10’ span.

Join two horizontal and two vertical halfcut bamboo logs to create the window frame.

Shutters to be woven and added as per requirements.

Make two grooves on each of the half-cut bamboo sticks, spaced 9’ apart and 6’ from each end.

Fit the grooves onto the woven panels.

Place the roof covering panel on the bamboo sticks.

Connect the roof panel to the vertical members of the wall panel with jute rope.

2 Connect the window frame to the woven panels with jute rope.

HOUSE ASSEMBLY

STEP 1 Join two 5’ wall panels to create one full height (10’) wall.

STEP 5 Place the roof panel and attach (with reference to roof panel connections).

Place wall panels in a square or rectangular form as per requirements.

Leave gaps for door and window panels.

STEP 2 (b) After placing wall panels, put in rocks to stabilize the base.

STEP 4 Using a paste composed of mud, cow dung, and hay, lay a base course of the plinth. Fill jute sacks with mud and lay them on to. Add another course of paste and allow to dry.

STEP 3 Add corresponding door and window panels in the gaps.

COMMUNITY BUILDING Uniting a marginalized community, empowering them with skills, and uplifting their way of life. Consider this manual a guideline that provides the building blocks - a playful modularity that each person may interpret and develop in a suitable manner. The voiceless speak, not with words, but with woven homes of their own.
