Welcome At ACG Tertiary & Careers Group we have had an outstanding 2016 so far. At NZMA we have already placed 30% more students into employment than last year. We’re working hard on new initiatives and always looking for opportunities to help you in your careers.

NZMA, as part of the ACG Tertiary & Careers Group is one of the best providers in New Zealand, and we are dedicated to your success. This is why we meet employers every week, organise recruitment events with employers, help you with your CV and interview skills and of course, tell them how great you are! We invite employers to our industry events and our advisory group meetings to strengthen our bonds to the industries we educate in and make sure our courses are up to date – so you will have all the skills you need to start your career.

So, it’s with you in mind that we are running our third Careers Fair at NZMA Hamilton (**** fourth Careers Fair at NZMA Auckland) – and this year we have even more employers than last year.. See the map at the front of this booklet to see what’s on and where.

At the event, students and graduates have the opportunity to speak directly to businesses about the availability of work experience, internships, part time and full time roles. It’s also a great chance to make valuable business contacts early on in their studies and get networking!

The Careers Fair is also the perfect place for tutors to exchange information, ideas and experience with businesses in the industry and it’s often the case that collaborations and new projects have their starting point at these events.

Sam thrives on supporting and encouraging others, and helping them step outside their comfort zone. In fact the opportunity to help people develop their potential was one of the main reasons she joined the team at NZMA Careers. Originally from London, Sam has many years of experience working in the airline industry in a range of managerial roles. One of her career highlights was the years spent working for Sir Richard Branson (whom she met several times) at Virgin Atlantic Airways in the UK. Sam was part of the team who flew to the Middle East to bring back hostages, and even got a mention in Branson’s book! After moving to New Zealand to be with family in 2003, Sam worked for The Esplanade Hotel in Devonport, Ticketek, and most recently Pacific Blue/Virgin Australia, where she was based at AKL International Airport managing Cabin Crew. In her free time you’ll find her either fishing or faithfully cheering-on English sports teams – she has a particular penchant for English Premier Football!

Lani began her career working in film and television, helping actors, models and presenters break into the industry and develop their careers. She has worked as a motivational speaker and while living in Sydney, was a team leader for Mission Australia (a leading Australian community services provider) where her primary focus was supporting people into employment.

After returning to New Zealand, Lani gained employment as a Branch Manager for a Work and Income provider in Otahuhu.

She joined NZMA in 2009, initially as part of the Student Services team at NZMA’s Auckland South Campus. Not long after, she joined the NZMA Careers Team where she is now one of our highly-respected Careers Advisors.

Grant works with our Business, Contact Centre, Retail, Health, ECE and Construction students, helping them to secure full-time employment.

Working across both the NZMA Auckland South and NZCC Manukau Campuses, Grant takes great satisfaction in seeing students graduate with confidence and move onto rewarding careers. In fact his number one goal is getting every single student into full-time sustainable employment.

Making people happy is one of Gary’s greatest rewards. A successful 12 year career in the hospitality industry honed his exceptional customer service skills, and now, in his role as Employment Advisor, he is continuing to help others and make a real difference to their lives.

Grant recently returned to New Zealand after 15 years in Japan, where he worked as an English teacher. He was keen to join the Careers team because he wanted to make a difference in students’ lives and empower them in their careers. He himself has had a diverse and varied career. After leaving high school he studied electronic engineering at AUT, and as well as his roles in the education sector he has worked in hotels, sales and construction.

He runs CV workshops, teaches them valuable interview skills and helps them line up casual roles. His words of wisdom? “Never give up! Apply for as many relevant jobs as you can and be patient. Finding the perfect job might take some time, but it will be worth it in the end.” In addition to his hospitality and recruitment expertise, Gary is a qualified New Zealand software testing professional and is currently studying marketing part-time.
