Welcome to the Garde Arts Center, winner of the 2022 Outstanding Historic Theatre in America award from the League of Historic American Theatres.
Since the community nonprofit took ownership in 1985 of the 1440-seat Garde Theater movie palace (now two years shy of its 100th Anniversary) and restored its original Moroccan interior, the Garde has grown to encompass expanded lobbies, a 100-seat Oasis Room, and an entire “arts block” of adjacent historic buildings becoming a true home for the performing arts for Southeastern Connecticut.
We hope you will enjoy the intimacy, beauty, comfort, and production quality of our theater and the pride we take in our community, every performer, and each individual patron we serve.
Every live performance, movie, public gathering, or private event is an opportunity to fulfill our mission to connect and energize all communities in our region and beyond.
During this season we will begin to address historic operational and facility challenges. We will be making improvements to our backstage facilities, including new truck lanes and a loading dock, purchasing a new sound system, and beginning renovations on a new event and rehearsal space.
In the months ahead, the community will be asked to support a new Campaign for the Next Century that will improve safety, accessibility, and frequency of use for the Garde stage, provide additional community space, and help support our programs and services as we approach the Centennial of the Garde in 2026.
We hope your presence and support this year will help prepare the Garde for a new century of service.
Your tax-deductible support and participation are always welcome. Thank you again for joining us at your home for the performing arts.
Lynda B. Smith, PhD Steve Sigel

From the moment the lights fade to darkness, you are transported into another world…another dimension, where the music moves you and the visuals are unlike anything you’ve ever seen. Welcome to the world of iLuminate. Named “Best New Act in America” by America’s Got Talent, the brilliant cast of the country’s top dancers and choreographers, along with energetic music, creates a mind-blowing, multi-sensory live show experience. Founded by dancer and software engineer Miral Kotb, iLuminate boasts customized LED suits with wireless lighting programs that create extraordinary lighting effects that move along with each of the phenomenally choreographed dance moves. As the show progresses, each scene creates a new “room” inside “Club iLuminate” where an exhilarating blend of music, dance, illusion, technology and comedy comes to life for an experience that’s sure to be the most fun you’ll ever have in the dark.
Miral Kotb is a prolific entrepreneur in the fields of technology development and the performing arts. In 2009, she combined her passion for dance and technology to create iLuminate, the world’s first light dance technology company.
As a software designer, Miral has programmed iLuminate’s patented technology for major entertainment acts, including Grammy award-winning superstars Christina Aguilera, The Black Eyed Peas, and Death Cab For Cutie, among others. Her technology has been featured on Dancing with the Stars, The American Music Awards, X Factor, Mira Quien Baila, MTV’s Video Music Awards, Nickelodeon’s HALO Awards, and the BET Awards, to name a few.
Miral is passionate about empowering young people to pursue opportunities in STEM/STEAM. She has become a highly in-demand keynote speaker at many of the world’s largest tech gatherings and conference.
A two-time cancer survivor, Miral has overcome extreme obstacles both personally and within the ever-changing world of technology. Through it all, she believes in being true to herself, and encouraging others to do the same.
