Beginning Steps to Building Your Truck Driver Workout We all seem to have good intentions for adding exercise to our day, but finding time for a truck driver workout can be a bit of a challenge if you don't know how to set up your day successfully. 1. Decide to prioritize your trucker workout: Often the biggest problem is sitting between your two ears-your minds. You've already talked yourself out of exercise before you even attempted to try. Maybe you are worried others will be watching. Perhaps you don't know when or what to do. But until you make it a priority in your mind and your life, no program, equipment, or course will get you incorporating a truck driver workout into your day. TIP: Start to have a mental conversation in your head about why you need to do this, and don't let that other part of your brain tell you otherwise. Write "get moving" on a post-it note and paste it to your dashboard. There is power in positive messaging. And if you keep reading it, you will eventually follow suit.
2. Start with something simple: Walking is a primary function we all need to do to go about our day, and with all the sitting a driver does, walking is a must to help curb the damaging side-effects of a more sedentary lifestyle and job. No one is saying you need to walk 5 miles each morning. But can you sneak in a mile (which is 2,000 steps or roughly 12-20 minutes walking)? Break this own into micro bites, five minutes in the morning, five minutes at your 30-minute break, 5 minutes when you park for the night. That's 15 minutes or roughly 1 mile. And if you think you don't have the space to get out and walk, 32 laps around your truck and trailer is approximately 1 mile. You got this!
