EARLIER this year the DVSA upgraded a ‘voluntary recall’ to an official ‘safety recall’ on Zafira ‘B’ models after terrifying images and lucky escape stories began to emerge on social media and in the national press.

With Vauxhall continuing to put the blame on poor parts and repairs, GW has addressed the other side of the story on page 16 and revealed why these fires were perhaps not as much as a surprise as you might initially think.

Survey reveals engine oil trends GW recently hosted a survey to uncover the reality of stocking multiple grades of oils, in association with GSF Car Parts VEHICLE manufacturer guidelines on engine oil usage are more confusing than ever before, according to 59 per cent of respondents.

Fast fit loses business to independent over ‘dodgy’ bill FAST fits often make the headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Here, we have an invoice from a renowned fast fit listing work carried out on a 2001 Nissan Micra.

A GW reader, who has asked to remain anonymous, sent us a copy of the invoice after a new customer of his enquired about their recent experience with the fast fit.

“It's riddled with inaccuracies and extortion,” the independent garage owner told us.

“For example, two wheel cylinders, cast iron type, we would pay roughly £8 each NET in the trade and we use the same suppliers but on their invoice it’s £135 plus VAT. “Example two, front discs, non-vented,

“This job of over £720 lost them a customer and any family links they may have but they’ve gained us a new client base.

‘Unusual brake pedal vibration’, customer says LUCAN Carter, owner of South Coast Auto Repairs in Portsmouth, told GW that he was recently presented with a 2002 Ford Fiesta with reports of braking issues.

KA-rap job on the body work JAMES Flanagan, owner of Go-Renault in Leicester failed an MOT test on a Ford KA for corrosion but the customer soon returned with a repair (of sorts).

“I politely pointed out the error of his ways,” James joked: “If in doubt put some filler in and silver gaffer tape to finish.

“He didn't even put hardener in the filler.”

Having been refused an MOT for a second time, the owner got to work again – this time adding hardener to his repair attempt.

“I politely pointed out the error of his ways,” James added.

The owner described a ‘rattle’ and unusual brake pedal vibration.

The discs were advised on the MOT but the owner had previously declined repair.

Here’s the end result.

“Heater blower was replaced as the food was well baked in, especially the chocolate.”

Zafira fires: the other side of the story Story developments Experienced vehicle technician, Colin Simon shares his experience with heater motors and explains why the Zafria fire outbreak didn’t surprise him.

IT’S not uncommon to see problems with heater motor resistors, there are many different vehicles where they burn out.

Often the wiring is just not up to the job,

“You’ve got restricted airflow and extra load on the motor, the thing is getting hotter and hotter...” even OE replacements, they are just not man enough for the job.

For years now, I've been advising customers that they should never run their heater motor flat out for more than a few moments at a time.

The fan speed increment resistor sits in the airflow to keep it cool but the problem is, with most vehicles now being fitted with pollen filters, a blocked filter adds extra load to the motor.

It’s a bit like putting your hand over the hose on a vacuum cleaner, you're loading the motor, increasing the current draw and the increment resistor will get hotter.

What you’re getting is a double whammy.

Vauxhall Zafira drivers continue to report terrifying scenes of their family cars becoming engulfed in flames.

An initial statement issued by Vauxhall put the blame on ‘poor repairs’ and nongenuine parts.

In January, the DVSA upgraded a ‘voluntary recall’ to an official ‘safety recall’.

You’ve got restricted airflow and extra load on the motor, the thing is getting hotter and hotter and there's restricted cooling.

Ultimately, it will burn out the wiring.

With the Zafira, it appears that it doesn't just burn out the wiring and stop, it looks like it causes a major fire.

The actual resistor itself is on ceramic material so won't catch fire but if it's close enough to something else that will combust, of course it can start a fire.

The long and short of it is, although it's not uncommon for resistors to burnout, the Zafira's pollen filter is in a particularly difficult place to get to and it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that technicians working in a bonusled environment won’t always replace the pollen filter to the correct service schedule.

BG Products rolling road power test Products tested As more motorists look to improve performance and economy, we put BG’s air intake service treatment and engine performance restoration to the test on a rolling road.

THERE are not many motorists that would turn down an affordable service that will improve power and/or economy.

It’s a service that any independent can offer their customers thanks to BG Products’ range of solutions and preventative maintenance programmes.

To find out just how effective these profit-boosting treatments can be, we booked the use of a rolling road and had arranged two Audi A4s – one petrol and one diesel – as our subject vehicles.

We had opted to test BG’s ‘air intake system cleaner’ and ‘engine performance restoration’ but before we got to work, we powered up the dyno cooling fan and ran both vehicles on the rolling road.

The diesel Audi A4 was putting out 320 ft.lb of torque while the petrol showed 229 ft.lb.

The air intake service which we were about to perform has been formulated to remove deposits that accumulate in the air throttle body assemblies and plenums.

Paul Dobbyn, director of BG Products explained that noxious exhaust gases are fed back into the air intake system, leaving a build-up of deposit which can reduce air flow and disrupt the air/fuel ratio.

Our diesel A4 was treated to BG Diesel ISC (induction system cleaner) and an EGR engine flush using BG EPR (engine performance restoration).

Another run on the rolling road showed the combined treatments had increased torque from 320 ft.lb to 380 ft.lb.

For the petrol, we undertook the BG treatments separately to log any performance improvements at each stage.

Following the petrol’s air intake service, we logged 279 ft.lb of torque, up from 229 ft.lb before treatment.

A separate dyno run to see the effects of BG EPR flush alone showed an impressive 6hp improvement, thanks to improved compression.

Paul said: “We advise garages to simply offer these treatments to their

With more than 500 shiny new tools onboard, we took-up an opportunity to join GSF’s Ryan O’Toole as he visited workshops across the Midlands.

First stop was Central Garage in Lichfield, where managing director David Kershaw placed orders for a number of electrical tools.

He told GW: “I like to buy things that are leading the technology front and this van has a pretty comprehensive range, it’s very good.”

Malin of JS Prestige Auto Services in Tamworth.

ON THE ROAD

Impressed with the tool offering, he told us that the van gives him an opportunity to view all of the latest Sealey products on the doorstep of his own garage.

Tool storage boxes, consumables, air, hand tools, electrical tools and even diagnostic tools all feature in the van’s inventory.

For the bigger items, there’s an in-built TV screen showing product demonstrations.

GSF reported a strong increase in tool sales last year and say the new van will allow vehicle technicians to get a closer ‘hands-on’ feel for the range of tools available.

Coated brake discs Designed to replace the brand’s standard disc offering, new Comline coated brake discs are precision-manufactured and feature a specialised anti-corrosion coating.

COMLINE has introduced a new range of coated brake discs, promising to bring benefits for both technicians and drivers.

The water-based coating is applied to all areas of the disc including the friction surface and internal vein construction to ensure a rustfree appearance throughout the service life of the part.

Nick Weir, Comline sales manager explained that this provides a unique selling point that garages can exploit.

He said: “Anyone that has owned a vehicle

Fitment ready Unlike traditional discs, Comline’s new coated options do not require any cleaning or degreasing prior to fitment.

“In simple terms, technicians will spend less time fitting a brake disc which will directly improve efficiency, labour times and customer service,” Nick explained.

Comline’s director of braking product development, Dr. Keith Ellis added: “Painted brake discs typically feature an oil-based finish which is applied only to the hub area and outer edge of the disc.

“Such oil-based finishes cannot be applied to the friction mating surface as this material can adversely affect the friction performance due to its organic content.

“Whilst painted brake discs may provide initial aesthetic appeal, these oil-based finishes are far less effective in protecting against corrosion and are inferior to fully coated options in terms of durability.”

Dr. Ellis explained that Comline coated discs need only be applied on a handful of occasions before the water-based coating on the friction surface fades away to expose the braking surface.

"Where an oil-based, painted finish could hamper braking performance, all of the test data received indicates that our water-based coating has absolutely no impact on braking performance.”

A coated option for over 500 of Comline’s most popular brake disc references will soon be available.

Coated discs are being introduced as a rolling change to supersede Comline’s standard product and more than 200 coated references are already available.

Millers Oils say there is only a very thin layer of ‘boundary lubrication’ upon start-up and in order to minimise wear you need lower friction and a higher performing oil.

Millers Oils ‘nanodrive’ oil Martyn Mann, technical director at Millers Oils said: “We’ve reduced friction with our oils and improved the durability of the oil film and believe that has to be the way forward with stop-start systems.

“We put a formulation together, tested it on a friction rig and found we could reduce the sliding friction between typical components like pistons and liners by 50 per cent.”

This technology also offers benefits in hybrid cars, which regularly switch from an electric to a petrol engine, causing the same stop-start lubrication issues.

Nanodrive technology was initially only available in Millers Oils racing engine oils but is now available for everyday car use.

A leap of faith, plenty of planning and a little self-confidence will ride you through the bumps, explains Jane Russell who runs two successful garage businesses while juggling family life.

STARTING any business is daunting but opening up a new garage in the weeks before Christmas, while continuing to run a separate business and caring for a newly born child is a whole lot harder, or so I imagine.

It’s exactly what Jane and Steve Russell experienced while preparing to open the doors of Russell Automotive Centre for the first time in 2007.

While arranging to move to a bigger premises, it struck Jane and Steve that they had an opportunity to open a second garage and cater for lost business.

Despite the success, it soon became apparent that turning away business from owners of other makes was turning down extra revenue.

“We were very much just a VAG specialist at the time and we would say no to any

However, under the management of a new employee, Garage Express struggled to establish itself and 18-months later the separate business moved into the same premises as Russell Automotive Centre.

“I think looking back we were quite bonkers.

“We had to fit out a new 9000 sq. ft. building to house our existing garage, Russell Automotive Centre, plus create a whole new garage from scratch.”

“You can’t imagine why any business wouldn’t recruit females since they make up half of the population and it’s vital workforces reflect this,” Jane explained.

Why you need to cash-in on wheel alignment opportunities With nine out of ten cars requiring wheel alignment, GW gets to grips with an innovative Bluetooth system.

Independent garages can boost their turnover and profits simply by offering their customers a free wheel alignment check, according to wheel alignment expert, Chris Dear.

IT’S A claim that Steve Rowley, owner of Steve Rowley Vehicle Services in Cheltenham, tells us rings true.

Having had a Bluetooth system in his workshop for three years, he said that it’s been a profitable addition to his business.

“We’re using it on a daily basis,” he explained.

Chris Dear of Absolute Alignment told GW that nine out of ten cars would require alignment, with the majority needing front adjustment and nearly 60 per cent needing adjustment on the back.

Chris told GW: “Independents should be checking their customers’ cars and if it’s one that does need alignment, get it on the ramps, adjust it into the green and add money to your bottom line and your profits.”

He explained that five free checks could generate an extra £1,170 each week.

Gillian Shaw explains why it’s OK to fail Identifying the strategies that don't deliver results isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s learning what works for your business that’s key.

MARKETING is unique to each business, what works for one independent may not necessarily work for another.

While that’s not particularly helpful, Gillian told GW that you have to “test the water” to find out what works for you and what doesn’t.

“Our marketing has evolved over the last four years and we continue to monitor how it performs,” she explained.

“Try the simple options first and monitor where new customers are coming from."

Speaking from experience, she advises other garages to keep a close eye on costs – both in terms of time and money.

Personal profile MANAGING director at Carnies Autocentre in Edinburgh, Gillian Shaw has overseen the marketing tactics at her husband’s business for the past four years.

With a keen interest in marketing and a diploma in social media for business, Gillian has been closely monitoring her marketing performance and has seen a significant increase in business as a direct result.

Customer service Having explored some of the more traditional strategies including leaflet drops and newspaper adverts, Carnies soon discovered that it was a focus on customer service that proved to be the most successful tactic of them all.

“A customer referral is much more valuable to a business,” Gillian explained.

“A personal recommendation more often than not will create a sale, due to the belief that if a friend is getting a

bargain, or a good service, then they will too.

“If you treat every customer as your first class customer, they will feel valued and therefore will be more likely to tell others.”

TRAINING

While encouraging customer referrals, Gillian has also worked hard to improve the business's online presence.

Regular social media updates help to boost brand awareness and drive traffic to the website where potential customers can now book their car in for work online.

A new app, which promotes exclusive offers, available on Android and iPhone has also proved popular among customers for convenient booking.

Carnies Autocentre is a member of the Edinburgh Trusted Trader scheme, a local business partnership which aims to increase consumer confidence and promote good business practice.

The scheme is fully vetted by Trading Standards and Gillian said it’s proved hugely productive in her marketing campaign.

“With so many ‘marketing experts’ out there it is difficult to know the right way to go for your business.

“Whatever you try, you need to understand what you’re doing and why you’re doing it.

“If you do not have someone you can delegate this work to and who is willing to go through the training then get someone in who will.”

IGA adds more courses to its free technical training programme GW visits the IGA to find out more about how the association is delivering courses and catering to the needs of independents.

criticism that the independent sector is somewhat passive when it comes to training but added that IGA data completely contradicts this view.

He said: “The interest in training and development has always been there but it’s about making that training easily accessible for independents.”

Unlike some other training providers who invite delegates to a purpose-built training

“...2,500 training courses to over 7,000 technicians..." centre or arrange a regional venue for a one-day (or more) course, IGA technical trainers make the trip to you and cater to the needs of your technicians in your workshop.

The association has delivered more than 2,500 training courses to over 7,000 technicians in the space of little more than three years.

Demand has been such that it is currently developing two new courses covering sensors and actuators and also oscilloscope training.

Adrian Dobson, who has been leading the training for the past three years, explained that the IGA’s training is unique in that it delivers courses in “short, direct and bitesize chunks.”

“It’s a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, it might not be until the last few pieces drop into place that you’ll see the bigger picture.”

The latest course additions are being put into place following strong calls for oscilloscope training but Adrian said technicians too often try to skip the basics.

It’s why the IGA launched its multimeter training course this year as a grounding ahead of sensors and actuators and oscilloscope training.

“I can understand why garages want oscilloscope training, they have perhaps listened to James Dillon and they are oscilloscope crazy and I don’t mean that in a detrimental way.

“It’s more a case of it’s not the only way to diagnose a high tech problem and if you are going to understand how to use an oscilloscope effectively you’ve first got to understand how to use a volt meter effectively – an oscilloscope is

just a glorified volt meter.

“Once you’ve got the fundamentals of vehicle electrics, understand how sensors and actuators work, only then can you look at it from a waveform point of view, rather than trying to do it all in one day.”

IGA’s training courses are proving to be highly popular among members – even among those who initially expressed concern about the training being delivered in such a short space of time.

“We are very specific about how we go about the delivery of our training.

“A lot of the garages are telling us that they can’t wait until the next one which is an absolute bonus.”

Ford Mondeo IV DPF pressure hose failure Fault codes P2002, P2452, or P2453 could mean that the problem lies with the DPF hoses, First Line Group explain.

THE Ford Mondeo IV and its derivatives are fitted with a DPF matrix that is coated with a platinum based catalyst.

It lowers the temperatures needed to start burning the soot/carbon and is designed to last to around 120,000 miles.

The DPF is monitored by the differential pressure sensor for conditions where it may be overloaded, comparing the calculated restriction of the DPF to two thresholds.

By exceeding the first threshold for a sufficient period of time, the DPF warning light will be illuminated.

The Mondeo IV, Galaxy II and S-Max are fitted with a pair of rubber hoses, which run to and from the exhaust system either side of the DPF, allowing the connected pressure sensor to monitor the pressure differential either side of the DPF and consequently calculate how ‘full’ the DPF is.

Due to the arduous conditions in which these hoses operate and the very high temperature fluctuations they are subject to,

P2002 fault code reading

it is not uncommon for these rubber hoses to become fatigued, hardened, brittle or scorched.

It is likely that if you plug in a scan tool then the code shown will be P2002 - Particle Filter: Efficiency below limit (cylinder bank 1).

This can lead to their failure and will subsequently cause the differential pressure sensor (DPS) to register an incorrect reading.

Often in cases of the DPF light being illuminated, the initial assumptions made are that the DPF needs replacing, which is a costly repair for the end user and may not be the cause of the light coming on.

If fault codes read P2002, P2452, or P2453 relating to the DPF or DPS, then there is a possibility that the DPF hoses are the cause and require replacement.

It is extremely unusual that a DPF will simply fail on its own as it is just a filter, the problems are usually upstream or to do with the actual system.

Professional vs unprofessional: a continued battle IMI chief executive officer, Steve Nash talks about the institute's ongoing mission to raise motor industry standards in an exclusive interview with GW.

JUST as the motor industry really began to establish itself, a number of respected industry individuals gathered in 1920s London to form the Motor Trades Association.

They recognised a need to improve the status, recognition and employability of those working in the sector – values that remain true for the organisation today, now known as the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI).

Meeting up with the IMI’s chief executive officer, Steve Nash, it soon became clear that the IMI holds no discrimination over the type of motor industry sector you

work in or the size of your business.

This is an institute for everyone in the motor industry.

Steve said: “It’s never been about franchised versus independents.

“It's always been about professional versus unprofessional.”

He explained that while we have a

situation where absolutely anybody can set themselves up to service and repair cars, the motor industry “will always be classified by the lowest common denominator.”

In tackling the problem, the IMI aims to change public perceptions, attract new talent into the industry and ensure that skills requirements are met both now and in the future.

Top of the lobbying agenda, Steve tells me, is to promote the reality of the sector rather than the stereotypical views, which are strengthened by the likes of Coronation Street’s Webster's Autocentre.

“We have a lot to offer but all people know about externally is that we have people who sell cars and people who fix them.

"They don't know that there are careers available in this industry and we need to make sure that we don't lose out as a sector to other more competitive sectors.”

Changing times With the onset of what Steve described as “intensive electronics”, he explained how VMs have always worked “on the edge of technology” and warned that the industry must keep up with the changing times.

“We’ve got to get people to understand that, regardless of where you work, the industry isn't standing still.

“If you do, by definition, you're getting left behind.”

While the VMs set the industry pace, everyone else is left with increasing financial costs and Steve believes that it is a challenge that will soon become a common theme for competition lawyers.

“Frankly, it's frightening to the franchised dealers as well if I'm honest.”

Hybrid and electric vehicles With the difficulties VMs face with having to meet ever more strict emissions regulations, particularly in light of the VW scandal, Steve told me that it should be of no real surprise that alternatively powered cars are becoming more prevalent.

He said: “The reality is that while VW may be the only ones who actually outright cheated, the whole regulatory framework is very loose and everybody has worked to the absolute bleeding edge of that framework.

“As a result, the increasingly looking hybrids and electric going to hit us much first thought.”

The IMI reports an exponential curve but Steve predicts that an increasing number of garages will choose to specialise their work.

“Some of the more financially successful independents,” he said, “are the ones that actually focus on particular brands or a service.

“They are able to focus their investments around their specialism rather than being everything for everybody.”

Licensing With a professional register of around 40,000 people, the IMI continues to campaign for licensing.

The organisation argues that the profile of the industry can only be raised if those working within it can substantiate their skills.

With that said, Steve understands that it’s not easy for independents.

“Why would you invest in training and development and all that added cost if the bloke down the road, who's got no

qualifications or any of the right equipment, can steal your business just by being cheaper.

“At the moment, the public don't know enough to make a true differentiation between price and value so quite reasonably they make their decision based on convenience and price.”

Research conducted by the IMI found that almost 75 per cent of people believe that the motor industry is licensed and – perhaps more worryingly – one in five MPs believe all technicians in their local garage are qualified.

Licensing, Steve says, is an opportunity for independent garages to demonstrate that they can do anything a franchised dealer can.

“Without doubt, there will be some people on the ragged end of it that will say you know what, the games up.

“Then there will be those people in the middle who will say, you know what if I'm going to do this I've got to get properly qualified.”

Taking a leaf out of the anti-smoking lobby book, the IMI is aware that licensing was not on the current government’s manifesto and is therefore focusing on hybrid and electric vehicles.

Phased process It makes sense too.

The majority of garages are yet to start working on hybrid and electric vehicles, so independents with years of experience won’t suddenly be told that they must get a licence or face closure.

DRIVING FORCES

It’s a phased process and, as VMs continue to develop hybrid and electric technology, it’s an opportunity for the industry to set new standards.

Steve said: “These are vehicles that most garages aren’t yet working with and the reality is, technicians won’t know how to work on these vehicles without training.

“This is the right time to focus on hybrid and electrics.”

Steve’s advice for independents “VMs are finding more and more ways of locking consumers into their dealerships and independents have got to be quick on their feet and come up with alternative offers.

“One of the ways of going about that is to display their professionalism and show that they are a true alternative.

“Better, not cheaper.

“That’s where Andy Savva got it right, he offered a better price than the dealers but he wasn’t cheap.

“He unashamedly said, ‘I’m not cheap but I’m good and here’s why you should come to me.’

“Now there’s a man who’s got passion.”

Project diary “Being able to record and host a record of work undertaken, any issues which arose, parts required and work completed at regular intervals throughout the vehicle’s time at the business is particularly useful,” he explained.

“It becomes almost a diary of the restoration project and provides us with the information to hand to explain in great detail the work we undertook on the car and the corresponding cost.”

The data is retained and will prove to be useful for future reference should a car return for additional repairs, MOT or service work.

A candid glimpse into the mind of a vehicle technician

What was your first job?

When I left school, I was part of the government’s youth training scheme and I started training as a commercial vehicle technician for a Ford main agent.

I did my first year on lorries and when the scheme came to an end I moved onto an independent garage where I completed my apprenticeship as a car mechanic.

I actually spent 17 years there, ending up as the service manager.

I had a great time working as a trainee and working through all of the different types of vehicles.

It was sad to leave in the end, they were like family but I eventually moved into teaching.

What was on your last job sheet?

I teach a class of level four master technicians and we do advanced vehicle technologies so last night, for example, we were doing advanced vehicle body and we

The students range from about 20 upwards.

A lot of them run their own businesses and have been in the motor trade many, many years.

These are people that are wanting to advance their knowledge, I mean level four is about a foundation degree level.

What's the best car you’ve worked on?

I’ve worked on lots of really nice cars over the years but the one that sticks out in my mind is a full blown Lancia HF Integrale.

It had all the Martini rally colours but what sticks out in my mind was just the raw furiosity of the performance.

I’ve driven supercars and things like that but this was just phenomenal.

As with all Italian cars, it’s not the most straight forward to work on but it was a car of its time and to me it was just another car but it was the performance that stuck in my mind, it just went through your body.

And the worst car?

I remember doing a full set of hydraulic suspension pipes on a Citroen BX. It was the dirtiest, most pain staking, long-winded job I think I can remember.

It’s filthy, you get covered in LHM fluid, rust, dirt, muck and everything.

It was one of those that pushes you to your limits.

What's the most useful garage tool you have used?

The most useful tool has to be the oscilloscope.

There is no other tool that gives you the x-ray vision into the heartbeat of the vehicle’s systems.

It is the absolute tool of the moment.

They are far easier to use than people actually imagine.

If you get it out of the box and use it, you will fall in love with it.

What it needs is some straight forward training without becoming too complicated and the more you use the oscilloscope and become familiar with it, the more you’ll want to use it.

You’ll learn the more complex functions as you go along.

What's your ideal day off?

My favourite day out is the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

To me there’s no other motorsport event that has the mixture, the smells, the sights, the sounds and you get up close to the drivers and become so involved.

It’s something that I look forward to every single year.

What profession would you be in if you weren’t a vehicle technician?

Looking back, I’d love to have been involved somehow with Formula 1.

The cutting edge perceived glamour.

What's the most useless garage tool you have ever used?

I remember the tool that we used to use to fit driveshaft gaiters on Renaults.

We had this special cone that would stretch

As you stretch the boot over, it all sort of snaps into place.

It would try and tear your finger nails off every single time.

What do you listen to in the workshop?

I’m pretty much classroom based now but if I do listen to some radio, it would be Radio 2.

Probably when I was first approached to become a commissioned author because I got that on reputation, Pearson came to me and asked me to write.

Every time I write a new book and it’s published, that seems to be another highlight.

To be fair though, had I have known how much work actually went into writing a book, I would probably have never have done it.

The actual writing of it, I found relatively straightforward but the whole business of revisions and publishing is a lot of work.

What is the biggest challenge the industry faces at the moment?

New technology.

Keeping up with new technology because it’s just moving so fast.

Particularly in the form of alternative propulsions because without adequate training people will either be too scared to work on new vehicles or there will be accidents.

I’ve seen the way it’s going and my personal feeling is that hybrid is the interim.

I mean with the issues we have with petrol and diesel, we are being hit with tighter and tighter controls on emissions, performance etc.

There will have to be alternatives and things are going to move that way.

The thing with growth in any technology, it’s exponential.

It’s an accelerating process and it’s happening faster than people actually realise.

The thing is, you still have a petrol or diesel engine in a hybrid.

So I think it’s the interim period before we find out which way we’re going to go with fuel.
