Speaking at the media conference, SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said that the launch of Automechanika Birmingham is a “tremendous vote of confidence in the British automotive industry.” He added: “It’s not just about helping new cars, it’s about helping service some of the older vehicles that are on our roads. “There’s around 37 million vehicles on the road in the UK, serviced predominately in the independent aftermarket and those vehicles are fundamental to keeping the economy and society moving.” The exhibition is free to all visitors and will be open from 9.304.30 in halls 9, 10 and 11 on June 7-9 at the NEC in Birmingham.
