The electronic scales for the refrigerant, oil and dye require calibrating to ensure correct quantities are recovered and charged within the vehicle air conditioning system.

TECHNICAL TRAINING
CITY AND GUILD REFRIGERANT HANDLING FOR MOBILE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS
QUALIFICATION NO: 7543-01-001 MODULE 1 / (F GAS ASSESSMENT)
The first of 3 modules towards the full City and Guilds qualification in Mobile Air Conditioning Systems. This is also a mandatory requirement directed by the European Union and Defra for all engineers who handle refrigerants and carrying out repairs of vehicle air conditioning systems.
This module is an assessment of the candidates competency and ability to operate a recovery unit and have a clear understanding of the fluorinated greenhouse gases and their environmental impact.
Prior to the assessment the candidate will need a minimum skills level and knowledge of the following:
• The function and layout of a vehicle air conditioning system
• Correct use of air conditioning service equipment and service tools
• Environmental implications – ozone depletion and global warming
• The safe transfer, waste disposal and recycling of refrigerants
All candidates will be issued with study notes and joining instructions prior to attending their Refrigerant Handling Assessment. On successful completion of this City and Guilds module, candidates will receive their certificate, and this will be a licence for life - dependent on legislation.

HOW DOES OZONE WORK?
Ozone (O3) is a molecule composed of 3 oxygen atoms, it works as a powerful oxidant which reacts easily with other substances. The third oxygen atom in ozone is unstable and can easily detach, thereby allowing the ozone to react with other molecules, including odour-causing molecules breaking them down and eliminating the odours. It can sanitize and disinfect by killing bacteria and some viruses by reacting with their cell structures.
Ozone generators may cause some irritation unless the area is aired prior to continuous use, so always ventilate the treated area after use.
