Rubbish bin was categorized in P.C. package 2 which procured by different Government departments or non-Government organizations

RSS, project proponent and P.C. Designer gave comments and issued instruction for colour change after inspection

Inspected third mock-up with project proponent, maintenance department and Contractor to seek agreement

Modified existing standard drawings to suit P.C. rubbish bin design and compliance of Government departments’ requirements

Improvement of the mould and new colour sample was approved prior to second mockup fabrication

Checked the finished products with inspection checklist before sending off to the streets

Each component should weight less than 7kg to fulfil occupational safety requirement set by maintenance department

"UNPLANNED" GREEN BLOCK An Alternative Way to Green the City Unplanned Vegetation in Hong Kong

Urban Area of Hong Kong

‘There are still many bare areas along the margins of our footpaths and roadsides but patches of green can often be seen spontaneously popping up in the nooks and crannies of the concrete jungle. These self-seeding plants are an unplanned and unintentional feature of the urban environment.

• 74,100 hectares in Hong Kong is woodland, shrubland, and grassland, where have billions of seeds around us. Many self-seeded plants grow from gaps of urban area. This is a unplanned greening by Mother Nature on our borrowed land, but many think they are weeds.

Can the “unplanned” vegetation be “planned” to further green our city?’

• Size of the block is same as standard paver block

• By adopting self-seeding plants as an alternative way to green the city, we can reduce the use of ornamental plants and removing those wild plants. This can reduce financial and environmental cost. Also, it has a higher flexibility and reversibility intervention. “Unplanned” Green Block can provide additional greening option for our urban area.
