STATEMENT

AS SOMEONE WHO GREW UP IN A VILLAGE AND LATER MOVED TO A BIG CITY, I BELIEVE THAT ARCHITECTURE IS AN EMBODIED MANUSCRIPT OF PEOPLE’S FEELINGS, LIFESTYLES, AND PROGRESS. ARCHITECTURE CANNOT CREATE ITSELF; THUS, ARCHITECTS ARE CHOSEN BY THE DOMAIN TO CRITIQUE, DESIGN, AND BUILD. THE TOOLS OF ARCHITECTURE ARE AIMED AT UNRAVELING AND INTERPRETING PREVIOUS EXPERIENCES WHILE ALSO SETTING THE STAGE FOR NEW ONES. THE VERY ETHOS OF THE DISCIPLINE LIES IN THE WORD ‘PROJECT,’ WHICH IMPLIES THE PREDICTION OF FUTURE EVENTS.

THEREFORE, WE ARE CONSTANTLY TRY TO LIVE AHEAD OF OUR TIMES IN THE FICTIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE YET UNDISCOVERED, ALL MADE POSSIBLE BY ARCHITECTURE. THE ENVIRONMENT WHICH IS THE IMMEDIATE RESULT OF ACTIONS UNDERTAKEN WITHIN ARCHITECTURE. THUS, I BELIEVE THAT BUILT SURROUNDINGS ARE A CRUCIAL ASPECT THAT DEFINES THE WAY PEOPLE THINK AND LIVE.

LOUIS XIII STORE

FROM ITS INCEPTION IN 1893, GUM BECAME A CENTRAL HUB WHERE THE RUSSIAN PUBLIC COULD FIND A DIVERSE RANGE OF PRODUCTS UNDER ONE ROOF, REVOLUTIONIZING THE SCALE AND EXPERIENCE OF SHOPPING. CONSTANT REPLACEMENT OF ONE BRAND BY ANOTHER SHOULD BE FACILITATED. ULTIMATELY, THERE IS NEED FOR A TOOL THAT CAN ESTABLISH BETTER COMMUNICATION WITH CLIENTS AND THEIR VISUAL IDENTITY VIA A DIGITAL MODEL OF THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT.

WHILE WORKING ON THE INTEGRATION OF THE LOUIS XIII STORE WITHIN THE CONTEXT OF GUM MOSCOW, I CONTRIBUTED TO ADAPTING THE CONCEPTUAL PROJECT TO ALIGN WITH THE UNIQUE VANTAGE POINT OF THE PASSAGE.

I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR CREATING A 3D SKETCHUP MODEL OF THE ENTIRE 800,000 SQ. FT. BUILDING AND RE-IMAGINING THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT TO ADHERE TO GUM’S DESIGN CODE.

FASHION ‘GEM’

LOCATED ON SEGUIN ISLAND IN PARIS, FASHION ‘GEM’ AIMS TO ESTABLISH A NEW PARADIGM THAT REDEFINES THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BRANDS, SHOWS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC BY FOSTERING THEIR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN AN EXPLICIT CULTURAL CONCEPT. THE PROJECT SEEKS TO PROVIDE THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH ACCESS TO THE FASHION INDUSTRY AND TO PROMOTE EMERGING TALENTS IN FASHION, ART, AND DESIGN THROUGH A CLOSE INTEGRATION OF CREATIVITY AND COMMERCIAL PROMOTION.

FOLLOWING THE IDEA OF SUSTAINABLE FASHION, THE BUILDING CONTAINS MINI - RECYCLE FACTORY HAS BEEN CREATED TO PROVIDE BOTH CURATORS AND VISITORS TO BE INVOLVED INTO RECYCLE PROCESS. BUILDING USERS CAN BRING THEIR WORN CLOTHES AS THE MATERIAL FOR FATHER CLOTHING MANUFACTURE.

GIVEN THAT A FASHION WEEK MEANS A LOT OF WASTE THAT LEFT AFTER IT HAS BEEN FINISHED, RECYCLE FACTORY ENABLES PEOPLE TO BRING BOTH CLOTHES AND PLASTIC PRODUCTS.

THE PROPOSED TOWNHOUSE HOUSING COMPLEX IN CHICAGO’S LITTLE ITALY NEGOTIATES THE EDGE CONDITION OF PRIVATE AND PUBLIC VIA A DOUBLED SIDEWALK AT THE GROUND LEVEL. THIS SIDEWALK IS DETACHED FROM THE GROUND AND ELEVATED TO THE SECOND-FLOOR LEVEL, CREATING A SENSE OF PRIVACY WHILE ALLOWING DIRECT ACCESS TO THE SECOND LEVEL OF EACH TOWNHOUSE UNIT. IT MERGES WITH THE CIRCULATION ZONES OF THE TOWNHOUSE UNITS, FOSTERING A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE TWO.

THE STAIR, POSITIONED ADJACENT TO THE EXTERIOR FACADE, ACTS AS A SCREEN BETWEEN THE PRIVATE LIFE OF RESIDENTS AND THE SHARED EXTERIOR ENVIRONMENT. THIS TRANSITION IS FURTHER EMPHASIZED THROUGH THE USE OF MESH AS THE PRIMARY MATERIAL FOR BOTH THE EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR ELEMENTS. THE KITCHEN ABUTS THE STAIRS AND ENABLES A DIRECT LOOK OUT TO THE ELEVATED SIDEWALK THUS INCREASING THE SAFETY OF THE COMPLEX.

GARAGE MUSEUM EXTENSION

THE HEXAGON PAVILION IS A SEMINAL PROJECT BY THE SOVIET ARCHITECT IVAN ZHOLTOVSKY, CREATED FOR THE 1923 ALL-RUSSIAN AGRICULTURAL AND ARTISANAL-INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION IN GORKY PARK. OVER THE YEARS THE PAVILION HAS CHANGED ITS PURPOSE SEVERAL TIMES: IT WAS USED AS AN EXHIBITION SPACE, AS A DANCE FLOOR, AND EVEN AS A CANTEEN. THE PAVILION SUFFERED TWICE FROM FIRES, IN THE 1970S AND 1980S, AND AFTER THE LAST DESTRUCTION IT REMAINS ABANDONED UNTIL TODAY.

MUSEUM PROGRAM PENETRATES THE WHOLE STRUCTURE OF THE BUILDING AND ESTABLISHES ITS DOMINANCE. AT THE SAME TIME, THE SPACE INCORPORATES THREE PUBLIC ZONES INSERTED ALTERNATELY THROUGHOUT THE SPACE. THE STORAGE IS LOCATED ON THE UNDERGROUND LEVEL.
